Battlefield 1 has a large number of potential behemoths in future downloadable content and expansion packs (DLC). None are confirmed yet for In The Name of the Tsar, Turning Tides, or Apocalypse.
The current behemoths are the armored train, airship, dreadnought, and the French Char 2C. These behemoths all have the same few things in common: they're big, bad, and carry a minimum of four soldiers with a slew of weapon variety.
Based on what was available in World War I, here is my short list and top picks for future Battlefield 1 behemoths:
The German Zeppelin-Staaken giant airplaines (Riesenflugzeuge) and the Russian Ilya Muromets. As behemoths, these aircraft could provide air support similar to the current airship behemoth, but with the speed of a bomber. These airplanes would probably work similar to the AC-130 from Battlefield 4. The Ilya Muromets in particular is my top choice for a behemoth.
On the ground, the Germans were busy building a gigantic Grosskampfwagen, or K-Wagen. This beast might even be too "behemoth" for Battlefield 1. It had four massive guns and would crush anything in its path. Sources vary, but one was either complete or very close to completion at the time of the armistice in 1918.
Meanwhile, the Italians tried to create their own behemoth in the Fiat 2000. The Fiat 2000 was an interesting tank design with a more modern top turret and at least six machine guns. The tank behemoth never saw combat and disappeared after the war.
The Russian Tsar Tank could have been the world's most lethal tricycle. Instead the massive tank rotted outside of Moscow until the 1920s. Hardly worthy of its fate! Hopefully DICE bring it to life as a Behemoth in Battlefield 1.
With a confirmed naval DLC on deck for Battlefield 1, what are the options for naval behemoths? Well, the British developed some impressive submarines in WWI, including the M-Class and the HMS X1. The M-Class featured a battleship gun mounted on the front of the boat, and the HMS X1 was literally a behemoth that could submerge and pop up at close range to cut you to pieces. Good luck with that.
Whatever future behemoths we might get in In The Name of the Tsar, Turning Tides, or Apocalypse, hopefully we'll see some familiar to this short list of potential Battlefield 1 behemoths.
What are your thoughts? Which is your favorite? Tell me in the comments.
