When the end of the manga chapter came out in japan it was really unexpected for so many kids, one of the experiences i cherish the most it's from the author of op Eichiro Oda! "I sometimes didn't enjoy my junior high school life, but I felt happy when Jump would be released the next day. When Krillin died in Dragon Ball, the whole school was thrown into turmoil. I remember someone kept running and shouting in the school, "Krillin died!!" with Jump in his hand" It just shows how many kids in japan really felt in this moment as one of their closest friends has just actually died

That reminds me of a similar situation back in the 80s when DC comic decides to kill of the second Robin. This was a big deal back then that is made it into the TV news.

I still remember watching this as a kid and being shocked that kuririn got murdered. I felt like Goku, i cried, then i got very angry cause in my head i thought about my friends and what i would do if someone would kill them. What DB did so well was that it started very light hearted. DB was all about fun and dirty jokes. this makes the more serious, sad and dramatic moments more impactful.

I like when a story does well to balance comedy and more serious moments like this
@chevalierkraken19 күн бұрын
This moment is even more impactful in the manga, because there is no teasing in the manga, krilin death was sudden as hell. He made a joke to tenshinhan, tell to goku he gonna take the ball. Then page after screaming and death

This chapter marks a divide in Dragon Ball: until now it was childish, but from here on it becomes serious.

Yes, this is "serious" 2.1 The first "serious" was with Tao and Bora/Upa. But the death of Krillin took things to a whole new level.
@edward1851725 күн бұрын
Eh, it's usually serious, just at varying degrees depending on the saga. There's certainly points where it becomes super again after later stuff.
@Monatio7925 күн бұрын
@@edward18517 Yes, Oolong wishing for panties was deadly serious, as were Roshi's incessant shenanigans, Pilaf, etc. in early Dragon Ball.😂 Toriyama even said that the Pilaf arc was supposed to be a gag arc, which gradually shifted to a martial arts themed strory with the introduction of the martial arts tournament. And even that was mostly goofy except for the final between Goku and Roshi. Early Dragon Ball was never "serious" when compared to what came later. PS. You just responded to me on another thread. We seem to think alike LOL.👍

Back in the day I picked up Dragon Ball when the second tournament was starting. So I saw how good friends Goku and Krillin were during the tournament and deduced their friendship went way back. I hadn't seen the dragon balls be used to bring someone back to life, so when I saw Krillin dead it was devastating. How could this happen? Why? Not Krillin! What were we gonna do?? How could anyone?? What now!?!?

I tried to make dragon balls out of orange jello / jelly one time and I made little stars to put in the middle but as I took them out the silicon sphere moulds it just fell apart and it was sad. But hopefully I will try to make them again because it would look really cool for a picture or a kids party

I remember that last episode and even as a kid it felt so real, specially that feeling Goku had before Kuririn went for the dragon ball
@edward1851725 күн бұрын
And so we reach the end of the first animated stuff I ever saw of Dragon Ball. As a kid my parents had Japanese VHS Tapes of the 22nd Budokai ending with these episodes (though we also had Tankobons of the series from Pilaf up to the saga after this one (we used to have the announcers shark jet with Goku on it that my mom painted on the wall) ). I couldn't believe when I saw this. Krillin dying was one of the most shocking moments of my childhood. Krillin, a MAIN CHARACTER, actually got killed which sets up arguably the next saga with quite a bang. One thing I've always been irked at though is that the episode that Krillin dies on is where the intro changes but, when they showed it in America (even on the DVDs where you can switch it to the Japanese version), they only ever use the 1st intro. You never get to see the 2nd intro in the English version.

Starting now, this is DragonBall at its peak!! It just got dark..
yes I wasn't too shocked, because I felt like "of course he will be brought back to life!" but I can understand if I was younger, this would still be very sad.

Don't feel bad about struggling with the Balls' names, they're actually not in everyday language Japanese, but Japanese transcriptions of Chinese! So, like your chat said, the Four Star Ball is called "Sū Shin Chū", though the standard romanization from Chinese is "Sì Xīng Qiú"- so "sū" is the Japanese approximation of the Chinese "sì" ("four") rather than a typical Japanese reading of "four" 😉 Also man, Nozawa's performance at the end there... She really does Goku so well

Forget the "shocked" reactions of current day KZbinrs who pretend to be "astounded" by what happens. They have 30+ years of Internet memes to know what happens. Imagine watching this when it first aired, back in 1988, with the tournament finally over. Suddenly, one of the most prominent side characters dies. Imagine the disbelief at the time, not knowing what was to come next. btw, animaechan looks just like a latter day Launch, both in appearance and mannerisms.😏

If you're worry about Yamcha and Bulma hairstyle, just know that in DBZ it is the same but 10 times higher ! You definitely will have things to say, good or bad depending on your preferences ! XD Anyway I am happy that you are watching Golden Kamui on Twitch, it's for me the best seinen of the last ten years. And consider reading the manga because as good as the anime is, some stories have not been adapted for reasons... that you'll understand when you'll read them ! ^^
