@Rytis Cyber I think that's a really cold take, it sounds like you are blaming her for not doing enough to get found. She was a scared, traumatized child, and it's sad but not unusual for children to shut down when they are that scared, to make themselves small and quiet and freeze up so as not to risk upsetting their abuser. That's also a perfectly normal survival response, especially since, again, little girl.

This case is so angering to me in so many ways. The way that the police treated Jessie's dad and (especially) her grandpa as suspects was heartbreaking. The fact that she possibly could've escaped while John was at "work," or could've screamed while he was kidnapping her or when she was stuck in the closet... And of course, the way that police were FEET away from her when they checked the bedroom but didn't find her. I wish she screamed her lungs out when the police were there. But of course, none of this is her fault, it's just heartbreaking to think of all the ways she could have possibly escaped.

Yes. This is why you teach ur kids to never talk to or go with strangers, even if they say "im a friend of your parents or siblings" or a family member you dont know yet here to get you. It is just a shame that the police in Florida remain useless. I’ve worked with them before on a case. They would send out 15 officers for a situation, where California would have only sent out 2. The problem was, only 2 were needed. The rest were just standing around and joking. Unfortunately, I was also there to find two missing children. I was able to locate one and bring him to safety. The other one (smh) no one seemed to care about. He was never found, and I wasn’t authorized to stay in Florida to continue the search. I know everyone is like “Florida politics is so much better than California.” But, honestly, say what you want, all the police in California I have worked with have been amazing. Then again, California police make more money. So, that may have something to do with it.

This case happened in my hometown when I was 4. I remember how confused I was but that everyone around was really scared and angry. My parents knew her family, they helped with searches as much as they could and my mom helped give out bracelets made in remembrance of Jessica. They were those rubber bracelets that couldn't be adjusted. I remember I asked for one, I wasn't told what happened to her because I was so young but I knew it was bad. I was too little for the bracelet to fit on my wrist so I put it on my ankle and I never took it off. I wore it for years until my ankle had gotten big enough to slowly break the bracelet. I look back at pictures from 2005-2010 and in every single one you can see the bracelet on my ankle. This case had such a huge effect on everyone in Homosassa, it was so scary. My heart absolutely breaks for what Jessica had to go through and what her family has been dealing with since.

@@lizc6393 exactly! I think it is highly unlikely none of the roommates knew or suspected he had (at the very least) someone in his room. He stuffed her in the closet and left the tv on during the day sure…. But what about all the rest of the time? She must have had to use the bathroom at some point over those days. I’m sure she was terrified and crying. The sick F**k R worded her repeatedly! She was in constant physical pain. She was hungry and thirsty I bet too since he wasn’t feeding her. He may have had her sleep in the bed. Thinking of the home… it comes to my mind that the walls of a trailer are extremely thin. Someone at the very least had to have heard SOMETHING. Sure they were all drugged out but I find it very hard to believe that no one knew anything. Especially considering the way they all tried desperately to cover for him. They all deserve to rot in my humble opinion. Worst of the worst. I also don’t understand how sniffer dogs weren’t able to catch her scent since she was there all along and the police had set up that Home base tent so close to the home she was being held captive in. She was failed by law enforcement so many times. This case is up there as one of the most heartbreaking I’ve ever heard. RIP Jessie, poor Angel 👼

I remember a time when one of our cats was taken. It turned out that a homeless man had taken him in order to use him for begging. Either he escaped or they ditched him when he was of no use to them anymore, and his body was found on the street trying to make his way back to our house. One of the things I remember distinctly is that this particular man (and a woman who often worked with him) were often in this Walmart parking lot with different animals. I never thought much of it before that and didn't pay them much mind. After our cat was found (and he was microchipped, so it was 100% him) and someone called and said they'd seen him earlier that day in that parking lot with that couple (and they had never had a cat that looked like him previously), it was hard to think that I would drive to the gym that was right next to the parking lot. And I wondered if I had driven past him and didn't see him there, because I had driven right by where he would have been. I can only imagine how Mark feels. His daughter was literally buried just a bit away from his house and he didn't see it. She was so close to his home. It must absolutely be devastating on top of everything else to know that she was right there.
