it was George Harrison's idea. it was his song and he needed to record it so he phoned dylan to see if he could use his home studio and as he was having dinner with Jeff and Roy, Roy asked if he could come along. George needed to pick up his guitar at Tom Petty's place and Tom joined them. They made Handle With Care and then decided to make an album.

The Traveling Wilburys is a rock supergroup from 1988, made up of Roy Orbison, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, & Jeff Lynne. They had a lot of great songs such as "End Of The Line", "Heading For The Light", "Inside Out", "Tweeter & The Monkey Man", "Dirty World", "Last Night", "She's My Baby", "Rattled", "Nobody's Child", "Congratulations" etc. Sadly only 2 guys are now left from this group (Bob Dylan & Jeff Lynne).

Think about the Awards, The Songs, The Music, The Years they have all contributed on their own. Now they come together as Friends to play for the love of the music and respect for each other! Dee has reacted to George Harrison before, maybe not solo but he was the lead guitarist of The Beatles, who were your last reaction (with him also on backing vocals on that one along with Paul). Started out as George needing a b-side for a European single. He had dinner with Jeff Lynne (who had produced his album) and Roy Orbison (who Lynne was producing at the time) in LA, explaining he'd had a request for a b-side. Lynne said they could come up with something, George invited Roy along. Trying to think of a studio they could get on short notice, George suggested they call Bob and ask if they could use his, Bob said yes. On their way to Bob's the next day, George said he needed to swing by Tom Petty's to pick up his guitar and invited him along as well. Trying to come up with a song once there, George spotted a crate with "Handle with Care" stencilled on it and went "Ah!" When the track was presented to the record company they said it was too good to be thrown away on a single b-side, and asked if there was any chance they could record enough to make an album, and so the Traveling Wilburys were born.

Elvis Presley once said in an interview that the only person who could "out sing" him was Roy Orbison. And Jeff Lynne said that this group was awe struck whenever Roy sang. Especially on day one when the group first got together. Unfortunately Roy died unexpectedly just after this album was recorded. He died so soon afterward that he wasn't able to film all of the music videos the group had planned for the album. See End of the Line, next...

Actually George Harrison started the ball rolling after he and Jeff had lunch with Roy. George asked Jeff if he wanted to take a ride over Tom's house and Roy said something like " Give me a call if you guys decide to do anything. They got to Tom's and George mentioned the were going to work on writing a song George needed to complete an album and Tom was invited along. The realized it was too short notice to get studio time, so they called Bob, who had a home studio and told them to come on over. They let Roy know and all met Bob's. That's when Jeff and George spotted the box in Dylan's garage marked Handle With Care and they began writing the song. George decided it would be crazy to have them all there and not record all of them, and he decided to write the bridge specifically for Roy to sing. Anyway that's how George has always told the story. Jeff Lynne leaves out a lot of the details, but he has always said that the group was George's idea.

OMG I love the Travelling Wilburys. George Harrison got the guys together and he wrote the song. Only two left now. Soooo much talent in one room.

Roy Orbison was one of the original touring team of superstars along side his fellow touring gig mates like Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Elvis. They were all on tour together and hung out in that prime time of their lives making names for themselves.

The lead singer (the first one that sings) is former Beatle George Harrison. it 's a shame they didn't show the front of George while playing lead guitar. You should react to George Harrison's songs as well.
