I totally agree with you. But Hollywood ,nowdays, is very far from reaching the equality in the movie industry. even with all the progress we living .There's still a lot of things to do .
@muchograndeyolatengo4 жыл бұрын
Exactly. I see a lot of "woke" posts all around that condemns the show and calls it dangerous. I think that those people are being severely condescending towards the show's audience. Hollywood is so over the top, that no one in their right mind would think that it reflects reality in any meaningful way. Claiming that the show is dangerous is not far from claiming that The Sound of Music is dangerous towards our understanding of holocaust survivors. And this is exactly the point. Hollywood is not only trying to mimic the style, clothes, music etc. from that period, but also how stories were told. I think that the key was when they discussed whether to rewrite the ending of Peg/Meg. This was a discussion that pointed back on the show itself. They said they were doing it because they thought it would be more empowering for women in Hollywood. Obviously everyone is painfully aware of reality (and in this context: the real story of Peg), so rewriting history isn't the same as deleting it, it's a tool to inject hope into people and battle cynicism. This was also the function that movies had during that time and during the great depression, where reality was exceptionally bleak.

the problem is the misdirection bait and switch. They spent FAR too long spending a half-ass effort to set up the true stories of Hollywood before switching late in the game to this alternate wish-fulfillment fantasy. Had they set up this alternative reality much sooner, people may have been along for the ride. The point the intended to make was valid but what they made was overstated cinemasterbation.
@isabellasoares70414 жыл бұрын
Camille deserved so much better. While the other main characters (Archie, Jack and Rock Hudson) have MANY insight in their lives, where they are from, their conflicts and motivation (all of the men show their passion, why they wanna be in hollywood, and how long they are willing to go to achive their dreams for MANY times in the show), camille has just a few scenes developing her character. Until more than half of the show they really just don´t show enough of her. They say she is the best actress in the studio but they don´t show that, she only is shown acting 2 times before the casting (the 2 maid scenes). They cast her as the protagonist of the movie but until half the show she is NOT a protagonist in the show. The show portrays her more like an idea ("we want a black woman in a lead role") than a human character that the audience roots to overcome racism in hollywood and achieve the goal of being a successful actress. I really wish they have invested in her character development as much as with the men.

Pink panda: The perception of Steven Spielberg on THE COLOR PURPLE by Hollywood was that he should be satisfied with the monetary success of his films so that the Oscars could help lesser known films. Judy Garland did give a better more emotionally involved performance but the film cost $5.4 million, double than it should. As a result, it would unlikely break even; it was a small story told on a big budget. In addition, she had no studio behind her and was not too well liked professionally. She and her producer husband should of been better.

There may also have been a minimalist costume design and so he was being tested. The film might have a specific audience target in mind. Hollywood never shows how life’s are it shows us how it should be. Especially Rock Hudson and Camille had the life they deserved. We all went to dreamland in „Hollywood“.
@johnpickford42224 жыл бұрын
Sues Anna: I think you have a problem separating fiction and fantasy. “Rock Hudson” was a real person and “Camille” was not. The whole purpose was to show a twist on the actual treatment of people and situations of the 1950’s Hollywood.

One of the greatest throwaway lines of the show, for those who know their Eleanor Roosevelt: “I’m meeting Hick for dinner.”

Anton Maslowski *I honestly didn’t understand the line, I didn’t know too much about Eleanor (aside from the more obvious historical information) and barely noticed it. Could you explain?*

This series was wonderful! Everyone did such a marvellous job! Slightly off topic, i wish more Indians and south asians were also given a platform in hollywood ( generally, not this series of course) . Recently things have improved for other minorities and thats such a wonderful thing to happen. Indians are often just reduced to a joke...i wish they are given more of representation as well. I dont mean to take away anything from my comment, just something ive felt for a long time. I dont mean to cause any offence.

@gray73 are you suggesting that white people are discriminated against in the asian movie industry? Cause I just simply do not believe that to be the case.
@gayatri42774 жыл бұрын
gray73 despite the fact that there are so many bollywood films staring indians, they continue to hold these indians to western standards with light skin and softer features. seeing diversity in hollywood, which is the biggest film industry in the world, and diversity in ways that don’t involve asian characters being defined by their asian-ness isn’t too much to ask for
@fashionbecomesher16654 жыл бұрын
@gray73 god forbid whites should do the same? Learn your history, they did and still do! Thats what this whole show is about. They prefered to have white women play chinese women and so on and so forth. And its barely changed since then.

this video helped me a lot. I had such a hard time with this series. I loved it, it was fun and captivating, but something irked me. I think it was that all these characters get happy endings that didn't happen in real life. Especially the Women of Color. It makes sense, after seeing this video, that Ryan Murphy and the others wanted to redeem Hollywoods power player and give the people a happy ending.

Let me be the one to say that Hollywood gives hints of the book Star Power written by the late Scotty Bowers. The underbelly of LGBTQ Hollywood actors being matched with dates from a gas station within the same town. Very little diversity being catapulted during the celluloid era in the golden age of entertainment. Mr. Bower himself told me once that it was rare for him to set up interracial relations, though it was done just as it was. Either way, I love this re-imagination through Ryan Murphy's perspective; it couldn't be more fitting.

I really did enjoy this series , I loved this era was so glamorous yet so dark I loved the set , the wardrobe, hair, make up , the cars , I really felt like I was there , I did struggle with Rock Hudson a bit in the beginning I didn’t see it and the storyline of him dating a black man as rock was known to have a very specific type but i was able to evolve with it and it ended up being good

Monkey Face yup. Much of the reason for Darren Criss’ success is that he does pass for white, and almost every “Asian” part is given to mixed-race actors anyway. I wish it didn’t have to be this way.
