"If you don't want to win, move in." I love that quote. Honestly, I hate to say it, NU looks better than Purple. It was less touchy and provided much more margin of error while still rolling smooth like the Purple.

I saw a video where a USBC silver cert coach was describing good league balls, and he said showing up with a purple hammer wouldn't likely go over well with a league team bowling house shot, because of how much it changes the lane. But this guy pretty much says its a good go to for league. So which is it?

All balls carry down and burn up oil because not even a resin ball can absorb oil immediately. Use whatever you want in league, purples included.

Looking at the specs for a 15lbs NU blue hammer ball. Just by looking at the RG and Diff(RG 2.586/Diff 0.027). Seems very comparable to the DV8 Alley Cat I used to throw(RG 2.564/Diff 0.025). I knew exactly where to throw and how the alley cat was going to react. I’m just curious if the blue hammer is as close to alley cat that I get, since the alley cat is retired.

Hi Brunsnick, as I continue to improve my bowling skills, I’m considering entering a tournament in the near future and I’m wondering if I will be prevented from using my old urethane spare ball? I don’t know which tournaments restrict the use of urethane balls, and which ones don’t, so I don’t know if I need to buy a replacement spare ball. Later in this video you mentioned that only PBA tournaments restrict the use of urethane balls, so I guess that answers my question. I guess I can wait to buy a replacement spare ball, until I go “Pro” 😂 Thanks for another great video.

Urethane balls soften over time and no longer conform to pba hardness regulations. They go out of spec and lose certification. SPI had a similar issue a few years ago with their reactive balls coming out of the box too soft too, which is why the Phaze IV and UFO alert got canned
@brunsnick Жыл бұрын
@@iceman5117 urethane balls do not soften over time. They may measure softer due to oil and other contaminants in the shell and flawed field testing by PBA. USBC just posted a study on urethane footprint, I encourage you to go find it.

The NU Blue is a good ball for that pattern but you would definitely have to wax it and bowl with the glossy finish to cut down the balls friction. It would hook less and hold the pocket more with the glossy finish. You can always sand it back down for a higher volume pattern for future use.

If reactive balls lane shine faster than true urethane, how is it that the urethane balls have been quote softer than resin?
@brunsnick Жыл бұрын

@rpf958 Жыл бұрын
@@brunsnick Urethane balls are having to be made harder because they get softer according to the PBA. Yet they don't lane shine as quickly as a resin ball does. It seems to me that a softer ball would lane shine quicker than a harder ball. How can the urethane balls not lane shine if they are getting soft?
@brunsnick Жыл бұрын
@@rpf958 it’s a different structure with urethane, and oil makes the ball read softer after use. Since resin absorbs through the pores, it isn’t affected. Remember, oil is a lubricant, not a solvent so bowling balls don’t get softer.

For me, as a non--PBA member, it boils down to this: NU Blue looks pretty damn close in shape and response time to the Purple, so if I was a PBA pro, I'd be pretty relieved and happy to have this option. However, since I'm not a PBA pro and I can still enjoy using my Purple and I've heard nothing about Hammer/Brunswick ceasing Purple production, is this ball a "must" for me? The answer, for me at least, is no, not at this time. Which kinda brings NU into the realm of what most of us bowlers do..."I don't really NEED this ball, but do I WANT this ball?" Who knew that the Rolling Stones were bowlers??!!🤷♂️😛🎳
@brunsnick Жыл бұрын
Definitely a want and there are a ton of Hammer fans on board with this release. PBA players likely account for a fraction of a percent of the amount of bowlers in the world. Having more options is never a bad thing.
