I was arguing with a Trump supporter this morning over the morality of this separation policy. He said this if it was Europeans flooding our borders, he'd have no problem with them because they assimilate to U.S. cultures whereas Mexicans, Muslims and Africans do not. He also said that separation was good because it will motivate Mexican immigrants to not cross the border I lived in Mexico for a year studying politics. I am no expert by any means, but what I do know is it is next to impossible to get a VISA to the U.S. from Mexico for any reason whatsoever. Unless you are a highly skilled worker in a desired field, like engineering, you have little-to-no chance of finding a legal way in. Even if you have documented family in the U.S., the process takes many years even for immediate family members (kids, parents, spouse) -- decades if not immediate Couple that with gangs in the north being agitated by a corrupt government, and you got yourself a recipe for immigration (although fun fact, as of right now there are more Mexican nationals migrating from the U.S. to Mexico than the other way around). We need immigration reform, yes. But until we make the VISA application more fair and less time consuming, we shouldn't be punishing those who just want to create a better life for their families. They love and respect the U.S. They "assimilate" yet hold on to their traditions and culture just as I'd expect a European immigrant to do. Mexican immigrants face death crossing the border for a better life, so I doubt the prospect of family separation would do anything to change that mindset if the situation is already so shitty When Mexico sends its people, they aren't sending crime, drugs, or rapists. The crime stays in northern Mexico because reaping U.S.-type profits in an economy like Mexico makes it even more worthwhile. No, those who actually try to make a life here are Mexico's best -- family first and hardworking. Sounds pretty American to me

some other points to use to confront these trumpets : It's not like US is a perfect place already or the white people don't commit any crime... There are always good people & bad people... Not one community is totally pure!! & if that person really wants to go back & says again that this place only belongs to whites - you gotta remind him that no; Europeans took this land forcefully from natives - massacring a rich culture that actually welcomed first those strangers as guests...

They also blocked all the roadways in and out with barriers and set up dozens of tents along side and in the carport area. Power to the people. There are over 300 million of us in this country. I disagree. Meyers once again embarrassed himself with outright lies and anti-Trump propaganda. For example, he lied about Trump's comment on regulations. Here's an apples to apples comparison on an administration’s "first sweep" through the regulations (source Washington Post): 1. Trump: 469 (regulations removed/withdrawn) 2. Bush: 181 3. Obama: 156 Facts are important. Meyer's blatant lies and incessant propaganda are misleading. Like Colbert, he's hurting the country with every biased rant cleverly disguised as 'satire'.

You're the idiot that believes that corporations should run rampant with our environment. More regulations removed?!??! As if that's a good thing. Sure businesses have trouble in some areas, but keeping our air and water clean is WAY more important. And about your other post 'allowing' families to stay together? He's the fucking one who split them in the first place! God, you're an idiot AND an asshole.
@HughJorgan16 жыл бұрын
Jo Mo...many people think less Federal regulations is a better approach. It gives more power to individual States to manage their own affairs. Particularly on key issues such as environmental regulations. In addition, less Federal regulation saves money and removes bureaucracy.
@elitav54916 жыл бұрын
hugh jorgan except that is observably not what happens or has happened in history. Besides, think about this: if one state does not use the same regulations as another, the pollution from that state will spill over to the others. Water and air does not stop at state borders. And just because some people could be convinced that market growth is more important than people's health, is that a good and ethical solution? This is why the attempt to seperate into smaller and smaller administrative units fails - it is at best only feasible for very specific topics. Trump is undoing the little progress the US made in terms of environmental protection over the last decades, despite the US being one of the most wasteful and environmentally damaging countries of the planet - thus ironically causing a lot of the immigration the Trump administration is negative about.
@HughJorgan16 жыл бұрын
V Heller...good points all around. I agree environmental issues have no borders. It therefore becomes a discussion on what's the best approach? Federal/big brother vs more State/local-based regulations. As I said, many think less Federal regulation is a very good thing. I can't verify off hand, but I think that includes many Democrat States.

This is how i like Seth Meyers. Actually using his emotions in telling how stupid these people are. Using jokes all the time really dims the seriousness in topics that can cause younger gens to feel that it isn't as important. "Well their making fun of it so it must not be that bad". Hi, please don't forget about the 2,300+ migrant children already taken and transported all over the U.S. Some of their parents might've been deported, and many of them will be lost within the foster care system because of legal paperwork. Trump is playing a legal gambit with these children. They will be orphaned in foster care because of this. There is a fund dedicated to family reunification in the foster care system, but whether or not it can be used to help these kids and families is questionable. If you've got time please contact your elected officials and ask about efforts to reunite these families! Thank you!

It back-fired, (even his people did not back him up), so he signed an order to make it stop. This is Trump's go-to play. Just like N. This entire situation of the US government administration implementing this policy for the treatment of desperate immigrants is unbelievable. I am 65 years old, I have travelled around the globe several times. I have lived and worked on almost every continent (excluding Antarctica) and the one common factor I have witnessed from every person I have met, regardless of race, creed, colour or religion is that the adults want to better the life for their children. This is a common goal for parents worldwide regardless of country or culture. This ongoing situation (under the Trump administration with regards to the treatment of these people who are economic refugees) by the richest people in the world is so disgraceful, it makes a person wonder about how we arrived at this point in our human evolution. When you have so called "Christians" (i.e. Jeff Sessions) cherry picking quotes from the bible to justify despicable behaviour, you need to ask yourself, is this dude really a Christian or is he just a despicable excuse for a human being? He is taking his orders from his boss. So, is the POTUS as well a despicable excuse for a human being?

@elitav54916 жыл бұрын
hugh jorgan That is incorrect. He made crossing the border a criminal offense - which it was not before - thus leading to the seperation of children and parents since the adults will be charged and jailed, whereas minors have to be kept seperate outside of jail.

V Heller, thank for the clarity. Bottom line, the actions will prove to be an excellent deterrent to those wanting to enter illegally.
@AnonningAnon6 жыл бұрын
hugh jorgan It won't stop anything. People will never stop crossing to the USA, just like people will never stop crossing North Korea in the hopes of a better life (regardless of the death/torture punishments there). Desperation drives these people. They most likely tell themselves " I'd rather die trying than never knowing what could have happened". People are not hard to figure out. The reason they flee is almost always because one of their 3 basic needs is violated or lacking severely. Those basic needs are: 1) Food and water 2) Safety 3) Human Rights. All you can do as a country which is fortunate enough to have those 3 basic needs met, is process them fairly and either return them to their country or assimilate them, offering them education and jobs. Treating them like sub-humans will accomplish nothing in the end goal of handling immigration and establishing a positive relationship with your neighbouring countries.

Hey from Germany. Just a few details on the whole story about crime being up. First we did take in less than 2 million refugees in the last 3 years that he is probably referring to. So not millionS. Second. The crimestatistic actually was up in 2015 or 2016 a lot but that has one simple reason: Every time a refugee comes to Germany that is a crime (due to a stupid regulation called the Lissabon Agreement). So we technically had about 1 Million extra crimes commited by refugees. Now our government installed cruel policies to keep refugees from coming here so now we have nearly no new refugees and the crimestatistic is down to the low that Seth correctly mentioned. Of course there are some extra crimes because our right wing extremists and refugees don't get along and because social problems arise from the immigration. But that is in part due to our underfunded integration policy and in part that social problems where there before, because our social system has been harshly cut and just became visible when the refugees came. ok, teachermode off ;)

I'm with you Thomas... Voting seems pointless as it doesn't seem to work in this country... Worked for France I guess but they actually have some logic to their voting system... Gerrymandering... Rigging... Hacking... Electoral college... Idiots are allowed to vote... Assholes are allowed to vote... Voting is a pain in the ass... The choices always suck...It's hard is all I'm saying... Can you really blame people for not voting when you're doing nothing but shitting on them for it?
