Let those cameras catch that when theres an accident..its yo ass.

Great video! Insurance companies are the main part of the reason why trucking sucks now. I believe they are the culprits behind the ridiculous standards for hiring experience drivers. You have 10 plus years of experience, but it's not within the past 3 years, so we (the company) can't hire you despite your clean record. The dude has only been out of the truck for 4 years. Make it make sense. The only thing that changes in trucking consistently is the amount of new useless regulations. Yet, a new CDL holder can come out here, no problem & and get cleared by insurance easily.

I literally have the inside camera electrical taped so they can’t view the inside of the truck - we got the “new” system last fall, and it was PROMISED that they wouldn’t not activate or view the inside camera - It got back that they broke the promise - so a large majority of us decided to hold them to their word and taped the inside camera

I tested out this theory and anytime I would have conversation on my headset I would notice the blue like blinking, and crazy part about it it was ONLY when I was having a phone conversation, never detected my music. And I honestly feel like that is a MAJOR invasion of a drivers privacy, what I'm having conversations about with my family and friends is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS

I won't defend having inward facing cameras, albeit I know that sometimes in certain situations it could possibly be helpful. I see them as unethical/invasion of privacy. But that's just me. I never thought I'd work for a company that has them but like you said, so far they don't harass me. You said a comment that I say all the time "just because you can do something doesn't mean you should!" Every single day drivers on the road are doing things that create accidents. Evidently just because they haven't learned the hard way YET, don't mean that they won't....just like others have, doing the exact same nonsense. Stay safe, driver.

I could see the benefit if the footage shows the driver always focused and acting like a professional driver at all times. If possible, it could be good footage for a potential employer to see how good a driver you are. But isn't it considered the company's personal property? They'd be unlikely to lose a good driver to another company.

@@B2Speaks I feel you on that part!. Though cameras are an intrusive portion of privacy, the truckers that sleep (to me) are typically the ones who over-eat and indulge in unhealthy habits. It does kind of suck that these cameras are being rolled out during this current era of me wanting to get into the industry though. But I need the money and freedom 🫡. I currently hold a security license and is taking time out to slowly study for a cdl as patiently as possible. I've seen local schools [florida] that offer training for at least between $3k - $6k. This [local training] will be the best option for me I think. Because I'm not trying to fly out to a training center (example: Swift, Springfield, Missouri) a nervous wreck 😭. So doing it local, at least I can drive back home and try again at a later time etc (cheaper than plane tickets). I'm hella focused though. That pre-trip is a brain buster 🤯.

Inward facing cameras are just a form of micromanaging. There’s nothing that adds to safety. It could be a drunk driver that slams into the truck after running a red light with the truck driver just sitting there, and that camera will trigger an event, and even though the driver wouldn’t be at fault, the company would still probably pay the medical expenses for the drunk driver that was either killed or injured. Just because it be easier to shut up, but out fall driver and avoid a lawsuit to prove the innocence of the driver of the truck. So you’re right trucking companies really don’t even benefit from having inward-facing cameras. What it does do though is it allows of the terminate drivers for anything a lot easier. So you need to cut down on your fleet, all you do is start looking for problems. You touched your phone two times in an hour. Or what if you were trying to look at directions? You picked up a drink and ate some chips OK well you’re sitting in a truck for up to 11 hours a day driving. You’re going to get hungry and you can’t always stop and take a sip or eat some food I’ll park. what if you sneeze? Tons of scenarios that a manager should be able to see and say hey, this is an employee working they’re paying attention. Nothing to see here. But all it’s going to take is upper management telling them hey we need to look for anything, and everything that shows the driver is distracted. and God forbid, the cameras have AI. The AI in the trucks can barely distinguish a shadow sometimes. You’ll have the truck breaking because you’re going under a bridge. How does the AI know that you’re distracted, or you’re tired, it doesn’t. Oh, it’s looking at, his hand and eye motions and trying to determine if this is something he distracted or a fatigued driver does. Which tells me that that data will also be sold to improve AI going in future cameras. So not only are you going to be watched, but the company will probably be selling your data of you being recorded. even if the mega carriers don’t realize this is what the camera companies are doing, it is. When you go on the website they want to know what you’re searching for. So why wouldn’t a camera company want to sell the bad habits of drivers or the inaccuracies of the cameras, AI to other tech companies in order to improve it? So many predatory scenarios that could be going on. I’m not for it one bit. If a driver wants to be monitored, let him buy a camera for himself and submit it when there’s an incident. some states don’t even allow recording of two parties unless there is a verbal and written consent. So how does that work when you work for a company and they’re recording you while you’re over the road? Did the laws for where the state the driver CDL is in reside where the companies? It’s just bad all around.

The company I quit actually had driver facing cams and if you had to swerve or hit the brakes, the company "safety person" would call you to discuss "what the driver was doing" before and during the hard braking. If you have a sandwich or drink in your hand you would get written up. What BS...deliver your own products.. I dont need to drive for ANYBODY. I have zero problem with DRIVERS having a personal camera recording them while they drive and sleep in their truck. The problem is the footage that companies record of drivers go to a third-party processing center, then is sent to the trucking companies. By the time it's all said and done, dozens of eyes(including AI which is vulnerable to cyber attacks) have maybe viewed a driver in the course of a private matter. Like a private, hands-free conversation with their doctor, wife, or even a prayer. Outward facing cameras are cool and EVERY company should be mandated to have those. But when it comes to inward facing cameras, that should be left up to the driver. Thanks for watching!

So it’s no longer the company making the decisions it’s the insurance company and the accountants they get to make all the decisions for all of the trucking companies. The lot that they’ve always tried to sell me on in the company I’m currently in is that is there for accidents in the past two years I have been harassed yelled at complain because I am looking at something or I’m taking a drink out of a cup while looking at the road. Consequently, the thing I’m looking at is the dash because I was having an issue with my truck overheating. I was looking at the temperature gauge because it was bouncing around like a jack rabbit. I had my job threatened because I “didn’t have my eyes on the road“ or I was distracted with the drinking water out of a cup. Stupid safety personnel that has never touch a truck in their life and has absolutely no concept of what we do in the trucks. I’ve always advocated for every female truck driver that exists to cover that camera up every single time that they’re even thinking about doing any sort of a clothing change.
