The real, original Hummer is amazing and innovative. Portal axles, inboard mounted brakes, aluminum body, Torsen differentials, central tire inflation, water-sealed drivetrain etc. Very ahead of its time. Designed to be a no-compromise military vehicle. SUVs got very popular in the late 90s. GM realized SUVs had a large profit margin. They bought the Hummer rights from A.M. General, made optional features standard, to justify increasing the price to keep the real Hummer (now named H1) out of reach. They then put Hummer-type styling on a Suburban and called it H2, and a Trailblazer/Envoy, and called it H3.

I have a 2005 Hummer. Over 200,000 miles and never broke down not once. Never broke my wallet. Only tune ups and oil changes. A great vehicle. Easy to work on. Not one problem ever. Never been towed. Still has the same parts on it. I bought it in 2005. Still in my family. Even the same fuel pump is still in this Hummer. Rides like a dream. It was paid off in 2013. Years of daily driving and has not once failed me. NO NEW PARTS. just light bulbs,Oil changes, tune ups. One oxygen sensor in 12 years. Love my Hummer. Keep your $54000.00 trucks and the payments. NO payments. Let the cowboy show you how to get your money's worth out of a car.

@joshingforfun 5 жыл бұрын
I've had a Hummer H3 for over 4 years, it's got about 125k miles on it now, and it's been the most reliable vehicle I've ever had. I drove it through the mountains of Catalina Island for almost 3 years on pretty much only dirt roads, and then in Hawaii for half a year, and now in Florida for about a year. It's been great. I've had to replace the starter (the starter isn't super fun to replace because it's in a horrible location), and the sun roof drains have issues (easily fixable with a little time) but that's it. It's been a great vehicle. I've owned over 30 vehicles in my life span and seriously, it's been the most reliable. 2007 Hummer H3, with the 3.7 inline 5 cylinder. I have no idea what the H2's are like, and an H1 is in an entirely different catagory, but I have to disagree with Scotty (I love your channel Scotty, but I love my Hummer too), at least as far as H3's are concerned.

@joshingforfun

The H3 looks bigger than it really is, it's about the same size as a jeep cherokee. I get about 14 or 15 mpg around town, and about 16 to 17 on the highway, still not good, but not terrible. Obviously the H2 is bigger, and gets worse mileage, but that's not the vehicle we're talking about.

@@jackfleming7137 It's funny how times change. The H2 is 81" wide & 190" long. Most larger SUVs are now 79" to 80" wide & significantly longer. The H2 is on the smaller side in 2018. H3s are not large. 188" x 75" w x 73" H. H3s w/ the 5.3 get 13 city / 16 highway. Not much worse than trucks with the 5.3L, but H3s were geared for off roading...

Great, so watching this video 7,000 + people didn't really get the truth about the Hummer. The H1, H2 and H3 are all very different vehicles. H1 is closest to the military version to the HMMWV built in Mishawaka. The H2 was also assembled in Mishawaka and built on the GMT800 vehicle platform (Silverado / Tahoe / Yukon / etc). The 3 section frame design allowed for the many variants, and so the H2 was another GMT800 variant. H2 used a 6.0l Gen III Vortec engine (can't remember if it was LQ4, LQ9 or something like that) with a 4L60E or 4L65E trans although a few other engine trans combinations were available. So the H2 is just a GMT800 vehicle and just as reliable as the rest of them as it's not much different (insert opinion "reliable" or "not reliable"). The H2 body is unique, so that's a different complaint bucket. The H3 was based on the GM Small Truck platform and was much different. That was built in Shreveport and it was a variant of the GMT355. Not many common parts if I remember correctly, but same parts modified. The engine offering was also different than the GMT800's. I think they used the inline 5 liter plus a few other Small Truck engines. Transmission was 4L60E auto or Aisin manual. Again, the H3 body is unique, and hence another complaint bucket. Short answer: H1 was close to Humvee, H2 was a GMT800 full size truck, and H3 was a GM Small Truck. Don't want to be unkind, but I don't think the information in the video was accurate enough.

H3 had the 3.5L and then the 3.7L Atlas i5's that the Colorado/Canyons had. Not sure if they ever had the 4cyl Atlas motors in the h3. Of course, there was the H3 Alpha with the 5.3L when the pickups got it.

"I’m in northern Canada, I’ve been a diesel mechanic & heavy equipment mechanic for 35 yrs. Sorry your assessment on the Hummers are wrong The H2 with the 6.0L Vortex are one of the most reliable and cheapest to fix 4X4 out here in the frozen north of Hudson-bay. Our camp runs 5 Hummers because of the reliability and they pretty much go anywhere. The auto trader value of Hummers up here are high you can’t find a 2006 for under $20k .. all the $10k are usually the 2003 H2’s Remember all these H2 & H3 Hummers used GM parts Bin parts used on other Trucks & SUV.. It’s 2018 and all our Hummers are still working & running can’t say that for our few pickups & Jeeps that never seem to start when the temp hits -35c (-32f) Last fall one of the Hummers had a flat and left out in the elements until we returned in March to that camp,couldn’t see the Hummer it was buried in drifts of snow over 5-6 ft. We dug out the H2 it slowly cranked and fired right up. Everyone lost that bet to our shift foreman who told us it would start without a boost. Anyway another thing you forgot to mention that Russian companies & Chinese companies up here are always trying to buy our Hummers to ship back to Russia. So all u people in the southern part of North America laugh all u want about GM Hummers but they earn their keep up here. Cheers from HudsonBay,Ontario 🇨🇦" said Luke Hanson.

I have a Hummer 3. I spent $60 last year, to go 420 miles to visit a friend. Then $60 420 miles back. The only thing that had broke sense i have owned it 5 years, is the heater controlled box. The heat stopped working. I looked up how to fix it on youtube and fixed it myself. Then i get a recall notice in the mail. To late now, I already fixed it. The heat has been working fine for 4 years. I also changed all the brake pads. I do that anyways, like changing spark plugs and the oil. Stuff has to be done to keep them running safe for years. If you just drive them and don't keep up with them, they wont stay running long. My Hummer 3 has a 5 cylinder engine. I think it runs just fine. When it snows, it cant be stopped. And the Hummer 3 is the little Hummer. They are beasts off road. Very hard to stop a Hummer when going out back off road driving.

Love my H3. I get 14-16mpg depending on traffic, which route ingot to work etc. That being said i didnt get it for fuel economy lol. I got it with 92k and it has 166k on it now. Have replaced 1 wheel bearing, upper and lower ball joints on both sides up front, replaced a fuel sending unit, a thermostat and a power steering pump. Everything except the wheel bearing has happened this past year lol. Honestly tho at 166k i think those repairs are on par for its age. Other than that its bee. A very dependable and capable vehicle.

Thanks Scotty for the comments. I have watched many of your videos. I find them useful and mostly accurate. I have had a Hummer H3 for many years now and have found it to be the most reliable vehicle I have owned. It now has 212,000 miles on the 5 cylinder engine. At 160,000 miles, I had the automatic transmission rebuilt. That's pretty much the only issue I have had with it. The transmission shop said it was one of the cheapest and most produced automatic transmissions and rebuilt it completely for $1,300. That included the rebuild, a new torque converter, new fluid, removal and installation. The four wheel drive system is awesome. I don't know about the H1 and H2, but the H3 has been an awesome vehicle. It pretty much shares the same platform, engine and transmission as the Chevy Colorado and GMC Cannon. That helps to keep parts cheep. It is easy to work on. I agree that the 5 cylinder engine might be underpowered a little, but it seems to be tough. It has no problem cruising at 80 MPH. I mostly drive mine in D3, unless going over 65 MPH. That makes a difference. I also pull a small horse trailer and it does a great job at that. I have a 99 Tacoma that runs a close 2nd to the Hummer H3 in reliabilty. My thought is the H3 is a completely different vehicle from the H1 and H2 and deserves it own single evaluation. I enjoy your comments and please keep up the good work!

Jon17 I’m in northern 🇨🇦 .. I’ve been a diesel mechanic & heavy equipment mechanic for 35 yrs.. Sorry your assessment on the Hummers are wrong The H2 with the 6.0L Vortex are one of the most reliable and cheapest to fix 4X4 out here in the frozen north of HudsonBay🇨🇦 Our camp runs 5 Hummers because of the reliability and they pretty much go anywhere.. The auto trader value of Hummers up here are high you can’t find a 2006 for under $20k .. all the $10k are usually the 2003 H2’s Remember all these H2 & H3 Hummers used GM parts Bin parts used on other Trucks & SUV.. It’s 2018 and all our Hummers are still working & running can’t say that for our few pickups & Jeeps that never seem to start when the temp hits -35c (-32f) Last fall one of the Hummers had a flat and left out in the elements until we returned in March to that camp,couldn’t see the Hummer it was buried in drifts of snow over 5-6 ft.. We dug out the H2 it slowly cranked and fired right up Everyone lost that bet to our shift foreman who told us it would start without a boost.. Anyway another thing you forgot to mention that Russian companies & Chinese companies up here are always trying to buy our Hummers to ship back to Russia So all u people in the southern part of North America laugh all u want about GM Hummers but they earn their keep up here Cheers from HudsonBay,Ontario 🇨🇦

It was likely made it Canada. Canadians make really good cars. Our American companies are very corrupt and intentionally make our cars poorly so they break down and make us need to buy another one. Especially with these companies where the parts that work with the vehicle are OEM exclusive, that way the manufacturer gets even more money.
