If you're interested, Deborah was in the 1979 movie The Warriors. It was about a gang war in New York. One gang from Coney Island was blamed for the murder of another gang leader trying to bring all the NY gangs together. They tried to get back to their home base with other gangs chasing them. Deborah played a girl who fell in with them, and of course in those days, she just had to fall for their leader. The movie has become a cult classic. Probably can still find it.

A very good video. Lydia Cornell is one of my closest friends and I am therefore very protective of her when I see videos about her. @@bikeny NYC nowadays is nothing compared to back then. A younger person now might not make sense of the premise of Escape From New York, they couldn't fathom NYC being turned into a giant prison. But for everyone who lived through the 70's and all the news that came out of NYC in 1981 the concept of it 15 or 20 years down the road being so bad that they'd just throw a wall up around it and turn it into a big prison sounded reasonable. Look at Times Square back in the 70's, it was full of pimps, hookers, junkies and muggers and if you went down there screwing around you'd get killed even in broad daylight, nowadays it's a tourist trap you can safely walk your family through, world of difference between back then and now.

Lydia Cornell also had a memorable guest role on an early episode of Full House. She played DJ Tanner's Spanish teacher that fell in love with Danny Tanner. She had changed her look and the first time I couldn't place where I had seen her before, but when I caught a rerun of it then it struck me that she had been on Too Close For Comfort.

I liked both Deborah Van Valkenberg, and Lydia Cornell. I was in my 20's and thought they were both, beautiful. Ted Knight did turn me off a little, though. He could have been nicer, and the way he went after poor Jm. J. Bullock (Lydia's TV boyfriend), didn't exactly endear me to Ted, either. Maybe, it was the cancer talking, but Ted was a little sarcastic, for my taste. Just the same, I did like him, and he did a great job, as Judge Smales, in "Caddyshack".

There was a great episode of the show where there was a question about whether Lydia's character was accidentally switched at birth and not the couple's daughter. The episode implied that Sara was probably not theirs, but after a lifetime of raising and loving her, Sara was still theirs in their hearts. I would hope Ted still had some care for his on screen daughters despite the producer's decision to write the girls off the show.

I'm doing some time traveling here, Dave, thanks to the KZbin Time Machine sending me back a year or more. I really loved Too Close For Comfort in a way I never connected with the Mary Tyler Moore Show. But the casting of Jm J Bullock as Monroe shook up the chemistry a little, and although I liked the character it seemed like Lydia and Deborah suffered the most screen time loss, and Monroe became a second Fonzie for ABC. I stayed with the show but missed some episodes during the 5th season and don't think I saw any after the first one of the Ted Knight Show. Sometimes you just know when a show is done and you just can't watch it die. It was only later that I heard about Ted passing, and I was floored. I hadn't known about the cancer. So my message is appreciate your loved ones today, as well as those who entertain you. Because you never know when them or you will be gone. Thanks Dave, and I appreciate you for your work on this unique channel. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. 🌲✌️

Lydia further told me that they had attempted to get Gavin MacLeod to play Ted’s brother on the shell. Ted himself wanted to do it as a favor for Gavin, getting him on the love boat. However the producers had another person in mind to play the brother.

Ted was also a dramatic actor. He appeared in a few episodes of the old 60's series COMBAT and usually played a German officer. At first I wasn't sure it was him, but in the credits there was his name Ted Knight. All 5 seasons of Combat can be seen here on KZbin.
