I have hEDS and my ribs pop out of place all the time! I use a dense foam roller on my back and it gets the job done. Bit painful but it works! My PT taped together two tennis balls (looks like a 8) and I carry that in my purse. I use it when I’m out and about by rolling it against a wall or in my car. I also use a posture corrector shirt for a few hours a day and that has also helped to have less episodes.

Do you roll the tennis balls all over your back/specific spots?

I can’t believe this only happened to you once, this literally happens to me about 10 times a day until they lock up & won’t come out, & I need to go to the chiropractor I’m always popping my ribs out. I don’t know how to have a day pass without this happening several times a day unless I just stayed in bed all day, every day. 🙀🙀🙀

Thank you sooooo very much for this video. I have suffered with tight thoracic muscles for years and I’ve visited lots of PT who told me that my back muscle were weak and gave me exercise cords to make them stronger. Well the more I used the cords the tighter I became. I was desperate for an answer until now. Your visualization example with the yellow band really helped my understanding of the problem. Thank so much again . Regards AC

The first demonstration of the hand acting as ribs and the exercise band seriously made me go. "Ooooooohhhh, thaaaat makes sense." I am a twenty seven year old male who is currently undiagnosed, however my family members do beleive EDS may of been passed down through the family, We're just becoming aware to the reality of chronic pain and a life of constant discomfort.. My knees lock backwards, my shoulder pops out, my ribs have slipped before (beyond painful, thought jt was an airbubble) my hips slip and catch in the joint, my fingers and toes are all double jointed, (hypermoblie) my hipflexors constantly pop when i get in and out of a vehicle.. my ankles crack and pop with every step if I walk without footwear.. It can all becoming quite exausting.. So I thank you for your time, support, and knowledge regarding these manners. ❤️

The way you talk about tissue and connectedness maps to my experience of scoliosis. There’s such a vast range from dysfunction to feeling fluid. Strength training has helped me, but nothing beats the feeling of being fluid throughout my body

This is the best explanation I have heard for this problem. I was diagnosed with costochondritis and was in crippling pain with constant spasms all down my right side. I saw a physio for 8 months and kept saying I think it’s my rib and he kept saying your ribs are fine. One morning in bed there was a HUGE clunk in my rib cage - I felt my whole rib move and everything got better after a couple of days for 3 months til it went out again and again - every few weeks it goes now and it’s exhausting in terms of morale as anyone who has this knows. In desperation I saw a Chinese osteopath who is absolutely amazing but there’s a bit of a language barrier between us but he said my ligaments aren’t holding the rib in properly and thinks I have slipping rib but higher up than usual: 5th rib. I have definitely been cranking in cat cow and trying to work on my strength and mobility and pushing but I can see now why that has been backfiring on me. I need to start a lot more gentle than I have been and build up. You explained the anxiousness and fear of movement so perfectly you don’t just understand the problem you understand people, which many wellness professionals don’t. Having it explained so clearly goes a long way to helping me understand why and how and gives me hope I can fix it. Talking about it potentially starting from the immobility from bed rest was the biggest lightbulb for me - I was in bed for 2 months with an undiagnosed whiplash injury that left me too dizzy to walk. So many lightbulb moments in this video I can’t Thank you enough. I felt truly seen for the first time in over a year. !!

Thank you so much for this video. I watched the talking portion the other day and tonight as I was dealing with an extremely locked up thoracic and painful back I saw the video in my watch later and so I came back to the movement portion and did it with you. Thank you. I feel so much better even just after that. Normally I can mentally do a lot of these techniques myself but I've been having really bad panic attacks and meltdowns (I'm autistic as well as having hEDS) over the last few days and my back/ribs/thoracic have been so locked up I could barely straighten and move. It's still sore and tense but I can move so much more and the pain has relieved a lot. Thank you again 🙏

Thank you for such a clear explanation. That makes so much sense. Since I have been ill, with lots of coughing and congestion, it felt like the movements helped to loosen things up even more. I have been doing some of these movements in bed every day, which has helped me to NOT sublux my ribs with my coughing fits. Amazing!

I get this same thoracic rib head pain every few months. It doesn’t happen suddenly; the pain takes about a day or two to come on, and usually occurs at some stressful moment in my life. I’ve learned that suffering comes from dissociation between myself and my body

After months of trying to figure out and so many scans, a sports med doc thinks this is it. Your descriptions also nailed it. This time I plan to wait longer-6wks or 8 before i do the twist move. I am doing half your video, 3x's a week. It is very scary yes and i do feel disjointed. Listening and watching for any additional advice. Thank you again!! ❤️❤️

Thank you very much for this live/video! If a rib is out of alignment can what can we do to put it back into place? Can we do that safely on our own and if so how? My lower back ribs feel off and are very painful but I dont know what to do (and i m definitely getting inpatient and not moving softly so this video was a great reminder to be gentle and not force things)! Thank you!

Hard to give personal advice as I don’t know your history or presentation. But you may find they will move back into alignment when you soften muscles of ribs.

Can I ask do you have any knowledge of mapping of body? For feedback - especially for sensory feedback so our body has awareness of “where things are” not just proprioception / Strengthening etc if you understand what I mean :) thank you for answering if you get time Also do you have less subluxation and dislocations now? I struggle with my lower rib it affects my digestion in the area greatly . I thought it was my heart or the fact I could not tolerate certain food I’ve realised it’s all down to my clicking rib. But what if I do these excercises I feel like that rib feels weird and I can’t relax fully because it feels strange. If it pops or clicks during this or crunches is that bad the clicking and popping and crunching is not painful but will it get less if I do this

Hmm ok this is very different from what happens to me, so I guess my rib just pops like when you crack your knuckles and not a subluxation. This happens sometimes when I wake up in the morning It isn't painful but in the front I felt kinked/pressure then I push my shoulders blades back and together and my rib feels like it pops back into place. I'm slightly confused and thought subluxation might be what was happening to my rib because my pinkie fingers sublux/dislocate (not sure if it's just sub or it it's to the point to be called a dislocation), been a thing all my life but has never hurt. Been doing your 5 a day for the last couple weeks and have already seen joint control improvement, thank you so much.
