Question. I'm curious what you think about a particular excersize where you lay on your back with your legs bent/knees up and then you open the left leg to the left, then the right leg to the right, and then repeat? Does that really strengthen hips? I tried this excersize once and I didn't open my legs very wide and it caused my right hip to feel like it was on the verge of going out of place or partially out of place. This feeling lasted into the next day.

I can’t give any personal advice without knowing your history but sounds like you’re referring to an exercise I call knee drops. But I tend to start with feet on the floor. Yes I use this one a lot. But range of motion is key. I’m sure you’ll see me doing this in one of the hip classes on here.

Lovely to watch this video, as a respiratory physiotherapist it's great to see people teaching others helpful ways of improving their breathing pattern. Interestingly watching this video - you look quite uncomfortable at times when breathing and talking, there is quite a lot of mouth breathing and gasping and you look hungry for air at times. Very common when speaking, especially quickly and when nervous etc but ideally you should still be inspiring through the nose and then exhaling through the mouth as you are speaking. It would be helpful to slow down a bit and make sure you're not talking so much that you are running out of air and then needing to do a quick gasp in. Breathing and talking comfortably can be challenging. Practicing reading aloud can be helpful in retraining our patterns.
@JeannieDiBonHypermobility5 күн бұрын
Thank you for watching it. Now it’s so interesting to hear this on two counts. Firstly, EDS patients suffer a great deal with breathing pattern disorders. Secondly, this video was filmed before I got my own POTs diagnosis and was sent to respiratory physio myself. She did indeed tell me about air hunger and I was taught how to remedy this. Hopefully my more recent videos demonstrate this. Let me know! But yes our EDS bodies do their best. I’m so glad the info I shared was useful even if my EDS body wasn’t able to match the theory perfectly.

Question, would barefoot shoes, or walking barefoot promote foot movement/ mobility? Are shoes or bulky height sneakers reduce accessibility in foot movement?
@JeannieDiBonHypermobility8 күн бұрын
Thank you for the question. Yes barefoot shoes would but you also need to be mindful of them if you have EDS. We’re so individual. Some people love them, some find them painful. If you try them, start trying them in short spaces of time.

Hosting isn’t expensive, and the app is very basic, so development costs would have been low. Filming can be done with a simple iPhone, and editing a single-camera source with no effects is as straightforward as it gets. 8,000 downloads during the pandemic underscores the need in our community for a program where people can help themselves - as you've identified, and charging a £15 monthly subscription fee is excessive and excludes those in the greatest need from accessing it. Considering your cost of maintaining the app is the same to you no matter how many people people subscribe, surely it makes better sense to have a more sensibly priced paywall that will allow more people to benefit, and give you a clearer conscience when you sleep at night. £15 seems exploitative of our community and greedy, unless you can only attract a handful of subscribers each month, which considering you had 8,000 downloads, clearly isn't the case.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. The app is very different to other apps - perhaps you thought it is just an exercise app. But alongside a vast library of professionally made videos and audios, there is a beautiful, supportive community. I am on the app every day answering questions, providing live events so people can work with me directly. We have the best EDS experts joining us each month on live events - we bring the experts to you and you can ask questions to them. It’s really a special place of support, positivity and friendships are made. I am very proud of our community and what The Zebra Club has grown into. It is endorsed by doctors globally and The EDS Society. In fact, we give a donation to The EDS Society for every membership sign up made via our website. Please check The EDS Society website for info on how to donate via The Zebra Club. We give back via the app. I’m very proud we can do this. Many people find the app cost effective - it is a fraction of the price of one physio session. And they can work with me directly. In fact, I have frozen prices since 2019 when we started so that I keep it low for my community. I also have a team of people with EDS who work on the app - they also need to be remunerated for their time. There is a lot that goes on behind the app - I can’t do it alone which is why our community is so amazing. But I am always here to offer free content on this KZbin channel too. I hope you have had a chance to look around and experience the movement and education on here too. Thank you 🙏🏻
@michaelc397715 күн бұрын
Or, you could just make the app free or upload the videos to KZbin, making them freely accessible to help the entire community, instead of locking them behind an expensive paywall. As you know, for many of us, this disability prevents us from working and leaves us struggling financially and unable to afford the £15 monthly subscription. I guess one option for me is to skip some more meals in order to find the money to subscribe for a month, and then download all I can in that time.
@JeannieDiBonHypermobility15 күн бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to comment. I will always keep my KZbin channel updated to support the community with free content. I have 300 videos on here already. I do hope you’ve found them helpful. I hope you managed to download the Strengthen Your Hypermobile Core online program during the pandemic that I gave away totally free to help our community who could no longer access in person help. Over 8000 downloads were made for free. With regards the Zebra Club, it costs money to host it, develop it, film and edit the content so I am not in a position to offer this for free. But rest assured, you will always have access to my free KZbin videos.

Alwaya cushions in the gap that I have in my back. Thoracic pain, and sublaxations maybe causing lower back pain now too. Very hard with thoracic back pain to hold myself up sitting on a chair, needing to eat food standing up, blood pooling in legs then, and my back aches so much that I want to lay down most of the day on hard floor No amount of pillows work, but its good to know that I can try to look at weight in the pelvis, and the feet & grounding into floor to help with taking my mind off the pain and the feeling Im wanting to slouch to stop pain. Talked to every doctor and Chiro and Osteopath about the back that looks like im pregrant as does belly. Too much bend I think, maiing pot belly stick out. Many problems are going on. Not diagnosed for any but just feel Im not strong enougj to sit or not shaped right to sit. I cant breathe well a lot of the time- usually shallow. I dont know where to start other than my GP asking doctor for a diagnosis of something wrong???...only remedial massage helps, oher than that the Chiro aligns me monthly but sometimes causing more pain elsewhere or headaches, & iback pops out again and again, my neck keeps hurting, shoulders hurt, and hips, arms also despite chiro saying I adjusted well. I was told to pretend a string is running through my body and to putll up from nexk with that string, it helps but cant hold long enough to work, or eat, and get dizziness and overheat if exercise, so hoping sitting and standing wont hurt soon if I find what exercise works best to maybe work on my back and stomach muscle strength. Can you have a hypermobile spine, hips or shoulder area or is it only movable joints?. I have weird arms. They are hypermobile, I think? The seem to not be straight, but ive told Doctors and Chiro, and they dont seem to believe that means anything wity my inner arm pain, when I ask what is wrong with my arms they say nothing its not carpel tunnell pain they say. It makes me feel that being in pain and having arms like that will be my norm forever, Im 52, but im getting worse with pain and fatigue as I age. Thanks for your video. @@JeannieDiBonHypermobility As an American, it's both frustrating and a relief to see this kind of research going on over in the UK. In the US, only profitable research is funded and only profitable information is even taught in curricula. I've been told that modern physios here don't even learn about hypermobility anymore (but that's an unverified rumor). It was a physio who first diagnosed me back in 1998, so I get so surprised that modern ones look at me blankly when I mention it. So I really appreciate the two of you--all of you over there doing this important work. Thank you for the recent shoulder stabilizer exercises, too.

This is valuable, thank you. I’ve got EDS and have struggled with hip and lower back issues for a few years now. I do workout for strength 5x per week, but find that my hypermobility means I can go too far and end up tweaking muscles (that d…mned psoas muscle!) I then stretch and go too far with that. Hi Jeanie, I have a question. I just recently started seeing a physical therapist. She said I have the tightest thighs she's ever seen so she wants me to stretch them out. The thing is though, for years, whenever I sit on my bed with my feet on the bed, it ends up hurting my lower back, and I only feel it once I get up. So I'm not sure what to do about these exersizes. I addressed this with my PT but she didn't really give me an answer, just said do slow stretches. It seems like I would just keep repeatedly hurting my back, trying to do that. What are your thoughts? I recently injured myself, making my low back pain worse, because I picked up an accordion and set it on my lap. big mistake.

I have a question I'm hoping you can answer: Is it safe to walk while having a subluxed knee? How about biking with a subluxed knee? What happened was I set my accordion on my lap, on my right leg and the weight of it caused subluxation in my right knee and it's been like this for 4 days. It pops all the time. I don't know how to get it back to normal. I've been so scared and don't know what to do. I have EDS. It's my knee that goes more inward than the other knee (knock knees).

"We're very good at cheating" speaks to me deeply. When I was doing dance 5 days a week, I could get away with faking it because I had enough general muscle tone to keep things mostly in place. Now that I no longer have that, faking hurts more. It always looks like I have good posture, but that's simply because my spine slouches into sideways S's instead of forward and backward. And just looking at how flexible and seemingly strong my legs are belies how it feels like my hips aren't screwed in correctly. I recently found your channel through one of your old videos on shoulders and lying on the ground with a towel under one shoulder blade while only doing vertical forearms while listening to the rest of the video has done more in that half hour than the many chiropractic and osteopathic consultations I've attempted. Yoga was so painful in the hands, wrists and elbows nothing really helped except instead using the fingertips which was minimal relief. Also the fact that you even went as far as to mention how to grab and just functikn correctly and described it in such good detail... I wisv providers would care enough to provide something as little and easy as this... we are so lucky to have human beings likr you to share something so powerful. May seem like "common sense" to others who do not battle with this but its difficult to feel "stuck" or "locked" and not knoe hoe to align everything or use it properly altogether.
