I am speechless!! How can one of America's foremost intellectuals - not to mention a highly respected Academic - openly compare modern-day America to a communist Iron Curtain Europe of the 1970's?? Not that I disagree with the man - I'm just flabbergasted that such a reality even exists. It just so happens that I was born in one of those Iron Curtain Countries.....in the 70s. Having at one point pursued American Citizenship, I cannot fathom how the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave has trans-mutated into a place where Citizens fear speaking the plain scientific and mathematical truth!? The deliberate take over of the culture starting in the 1960s by the left, it's know as the slow march through the institutions. Marxism, Postmodernism & a Feminism, that quickly stopped being about equal treatment under the law to far left man-hating, anti-family and children beliefs and a celebration of abortion. The 60s in the West were about drugs and self-indulgence, engineered by the left. A quick comparison of values and behaviour that was promoted in the 50s vs. the 60s demonstrates it clearly, art, music, plays or a glance at the descriptions of university course content. Many of those who have held positions of power, if not being true believers themselves were and are happy today to collude with the left as they reap power and money. They, like most, have not studied history and are filled with the hubris that it won't affect them. History says otherwise. If not them, their children will reap the whirlwind. I'm very glad I'm old and don't have children.

I’ve been a cop for over 23 years. VDH is 100% correct. It’s a lose/lose right now for law enforcement so we’re becoming fireman. We’ll respond to calls after the fact and clean up the mess, but we’re not going to be pro-active.

I agree, she’s corrupt as Hell but she’s breaking Federal Laws and that is beyond our jurisdiction. Hi Megyn, The rise in crime and violence is purposeful - regardless of the recipe that produces it. It is always in 'Democrat' controlled areas where the violence can be used to forment anti-gun (eventually, gun confiscation), emotion/motivation. It is hoped that this drumbeat will eventually wear down the majority of Americans that understand the importance of our Constitutional Rights to protect us from tyranny. But, in the meantime, the poor of the 'Democrat' controlled areas suffer needless terror and death, for the agenda of the fascists. ❤

Many won't say it. By not saying black Americans and since white Americans are not known as European Americans by most, for many, that implies that white Americans are not worthy or good enough or deserve to be known as a group name other than a color. European Americans are only referred to by a color term, yet we are also told that we do not belong to the people of color group. Every race is in it, but us. They would never say red man or yellow man, but calling us white is JUST fine.

A discussion like this would have never been accepted in "mainstream" journalism 20 years ago, so I welcome it. I'd be blown away if it was allowed on the broadcast channel news or PBS, but at least it is here. Nevertheless, the differences in crime rates are even starker than what the professor points out, since the government has long tried to soften the differences by including hispanic as white when that is convenient to their agenda. In other words, the actual number of white-on-black violent crimes is even lower than what the official figures suggest.

Misses the mark. I'll grant "Defund the Police" is an unfortunate slogan. But DA's in our urban centers have been Left leaning forever, and no police got Defunded- spending has gone UP for police forces. This rise in crime can be explained very simply, it's a consequence of an economic disaster that it the Covid pandemic. Not a fan of Hanson, he's too biased and gets it wrong a lot. See his old speeches on Ukraine and what Putin will or won't do. Not a fan..

You'd need to do a breakdown to see how police funding correlated to crime rates for that to be meaningful. Increasing funding doesn't innately require that you're spending the cash uniformly or wisely. As for DAs being left-leaning forever, maybe. But they'd argue there's a difference between being left-leaning 10-15 years ago and the last 5 years. A lot of people would claim that yesterday's leftist might be centre-right by modern terms. I don't have data, but there have been a few prominent instances where a criminal has committed a crime after some DA or official went super lenient (as people would point to Waukesha). And you do get a lot of videos of people walking into stores and robbing with absolute impunity. So, while it's not a slam dunk, I can appreciate why people get a lingering sense of unease at criminals having no fear (of what? having a tiny chance of being caught and then immediately released). To be clear, I'm not agreeing with Hanson necessarily. But if I was refuting him (and forcefully), I'd need more granular data and probably want to see if violent crime rates went up uniformly in other countries with covid related economic downturns.

Defund the police is a grift- pure and simple. Look at San Fran- they 'defunded' and then used Covid relief funds to 'replace' the funding with MORE than they withdrew. Haven't seen that sleight of hand since the guy with 3 shells and a nut under one.
