Hey bird fam! So I've been asked a lot about clipping birds wings and what I believe is the right decision to make. In this video, I give you both of my experiences with my birds Yoshi and Popples (because they both were completely different), what I've learned, and what my beliefs are now.
Also my apologies this video is so long. Holy burb man.
Although this is one of the MOST controversial topics in the bird community, I hope we can all come together and learn from one another respectfully as I will do the same :)
In all reality, we all love our birds and try to do whats best for them to live long and healthy lives. So I hope you learn something from this video and you are able to form your own opinion on the matter. Let me know your thoughts and opinions in the comments below please! I always want to hear what you guys have to say :)))
TIPS FOR HAVING YOUR BIRDS WINGS CLIPPED:
1. Have a professional do it and/or teach you how
2. Make sure your bird gets plenty of exercise with plenty of toys and one on one time with you.
3. DIET: I keep my birds on a pellet based diet which provides the nutrients that parrots need in order to remain healthy. Keep seeds as treats not meal :)
IF YOU ARE NOT CLIPPING BIRDS WINGS:
Here are some informational reads that I found to be helpful. Note that you can always contact your vet and/or breeders to receive some input as well. The more research the better :)

My birds never had their wings clipped until I moved. Once I moved they were stressed would fly around in a panic and became aggressive. I decided to clip for safety until they calmed down. They are grown out again and happy as can be. They don't fly in a panic because they are use to their surroundings. Clipping can be good for their safety but i am a firm believer they should be able to fly. If it's not safe for them then clip them. Safety first.

The only time i clipped my birds wings was when he was going thru his "teenage" stage a few years ago. He became very confident, hormonal and aggressive. He began to bite hard, attack me and fly away. It was very stressful for both of us. I quickly got fed up and clipped his wings. Doing so was the right decision for me because soon after his behaviour calmed down and my relationship with my bird improved. Now an adult and has free flight around the house his good behaviour remained.

TGIF!!!! Hope you all enjoy this video my apologies it is so stinking long lol I really wanted to go into as much detail about my experiences as I possibly could so you all can learn from mine and others' situations to form your own opinion/decision on this SUPER controversial topic. If you have a lot of experience with birds please share your thoughts as well so we can all learn :) If you don't have a ton of experience and your learning alongside myself, your opinions are still important and I'd love to hear what you have to say! Thank you all for your positivity and hope you have a nice long relaxing weekend :))))

Clipping and trimming wings are different just so you know. Clipping is permanent trimming isnt. Not trying to be rude I work with 20+ birds.

I think if you have your bird and want to free fly it then you probably won’t clip. If your bird is primarily inside all the time then clip if you want to. Many bird trainers will tell you clipping is mean and wrong but in the same breath tell you clipped birds can still fly. I have heard this over and over again. So I think it is totally up to you. It’s your bird and you do what you want.

I am highly considering getting my Jenday Conures wings snipped. I live in a family of 8, and I keep my feathered friend in my bedroom. However, due to my families size, there's always people running about the house and opening the front and back doors during summer. Because of this, my bird has escaped twice in the 3 years since his birth, the first time he went right out the front door and onto the roof, where he wasn't sure how to fly downwards because he was too young and hadn't learned yet (I had to get on the roof with a ladder to retrieve him). The second time he flew out the backdoor onto the tree next to our deck. He was much easier to retrieve that time, but I still crapped my pants when it happened. When I first brought him home, his wings were clipped by the breeder, and she wouldn't sell him to me otherwise. I was fine with that because it really gave me time to work and bond with him without him flying off. Of course that meant as he grew his wings back, I would always forget he could fly, and would nonchalantly walk around with him, not thinking about open front & backdoors. Eventually grew his wings back and has been flighted ever since. However, nowadays I get very anxious and nervous any time he's out of his cage, or if I leave my bedroom with him. (My bedroom is in the basement and it's the one with a door to the outside with stairs leading up to ground level. It'd be very easy for me to forget my bird's out of his cage, and then open my outside door, and off he goes.) I've been watching a lot of videos on how to properly clip a birds wings, and plan on doing it in the following days. I still want him to fly, as it's rude to remove that ability from a bird, but I don't want him getting any lift, and going into high places. I'd prefer if he just glides gently to the ground.

It's sad ppl can't be mature and realize that we all have opinions and we don't all have to agree w/ one another we want to have fun with our birds not a competition of who knows more. I clip my budgies wings when I want to train them or play with them. But most of the time I let their wings grow because they LOVE flying. Why get a bird (one of the only pets that can fly) and take away that quality of them? Anyways love you 💚

Ashley Mathew I never had budgies until my husband got them and he would clip their wings. But, I noticed they are WAY healthier when they can fly. Now, I refuse to cut their wings. You just have to take precautions with a flighted birb. And, my budgies are tame and social so I can gather them up easily to put them in their cage if I need to. Oh, and have you guys seen the guy who has trained his budgies circus style. It’s super cute. Birb Squad! 🙅🏼‍♀️

I appreciate your approach and those who actually agree and show respect like you asked. I love nothing more than seeing birds happy, safe, and flying. I can tell you from my experience, if you can live a perfect life and not ever make mistakes good for you. Hopefully, those that are around you are perfect too. That one instance where you do make a mistake, or for whatever reason your bird flying away regardless of training, it will break your heart. More than likely, the bird won't survive on it's own if it isn't found. Not knowing what happens to your bird is torture. From experience, if I could go back in time and change one thing, I would have made sure Nuggets wings were clipped. Still hate the idea of clipping, but just pray it you never experience losing your bird because it flew away. People can make smart ass comments like you should have been more careful, or oh, I would never let that happen. The sad fact is nobody is perfect and mistakes and accidents do happen. I understand feeling strongly for and against it.

Uhhhg thank you so much! I feel terrible about clipping because I do agree that they should be able to free fly but my male is so sassy when he can fly he literally just flew at my face and tried to bite me and he's 100% hand tame and gives kisses and snuggleswhen his wings are clipped. I didn't want to but I think I might need to just to bring him back to reality and then let them grow in again and see how he is.

There isn’t any way you would have known how Popples was going to behave when you got them. You have an open heart full of love for birds and that’s a beautiful thing. I’m glad I came across your video today because I’m contemplating about getting another bird 😍 My other birds I would take them to the pet store I bought them from so they could continue clipping the wings. I have two green cheeks. One of them was five years old and the other one 3 months. They both are pretty good, smart and listen. It did took two months for my five year old to like me and listen. It does takes time to bond with your bird. I totally understand that if you don't have the tine, patience, intuition and willingness to bond with your pet then clipping his wings is a good idea.

We got two eclectus parrots. One of them love to fly, but the girl are not a fan. We moved and we already know how stressful that is for a bird, so with heavy hearts we had to clip the wings. Only for their safety. We really don't want our birds to hurt themselves in the cage or be spooked, fly and get hurt. The feathers are growing now and we are working on flying again. So much joy for us and the bird. I understand so well why owners choose to clip wings, and I understand why owners choose not to. All I wish is for safety and health to come first.

Thanks for your complete honesty and openess. I've had birds for over 50 years. Never thought of clipping their wings, and one of these people who would say it's not natural, it would hurt the psychological aspect of the bird...until I lost my cockatiel a month ago when he barged out the door over the winter. I know he could not have survived the cold. Now I am more open minded. Here's a question to ponder: should humans be allowed to own birds as pets? Perhaps in a hundred years it will be outlawed! But I am going to get another cockatiel...may clip them, not sure yet.

This has actually helped me so much to not feel guilty about what I was thinking for my new baby Jelly. I have 3 birds including Jelly. My first bird Butters had already had his wings clipped when I got him as a baby. We have bonded very well and he progresses more and more everyday. My second bird Peanut came into my care from an owner who no longer wanted her, she had never had her wings clipped and goes crazy “ruleing the roost” and is a bit aggressive. She flies to me occasionally but only if I have treats and has since not made much progress due to thinking she is the boss. My new baby Jelly was kinda ok with me handling him for the first few days but a bit uncomfortable so I decided to let him come to me and has since not made progress and actually possibly regressing. I’m worried he’s learning more from Peanut and that the window of opportunity to bond with him while still young is slipping. I’ve been thinking about getting his wings clipped as it worked so well with Butters. I will never get Butters wings clipped again and have been so happy for him since he’s been 100% fully flighted again. I just want my other birds to be able to experience what I can offer to Butters (eg trips to the showers, training to build his mind etc) we have cats so bringing the other birds out of my bedroom without the cage is a risk if they suddenly fly off and have not been recall trained liked Butters has been. Being bonded means I can teach them to be safe, that I am safety. I feel like an initial first clipping is ok but further clipping is never needed but still afraid of those strong opinionated people who will tell me I’m abusing my bird when they are my world and I literally sit at work all day dreaming of home time when I can hang out with my little buddies.

I always clipped my parakeet's wings. He never really freaked out. But when I did it I always wore gloves so he did not associate my normal hands with it. They were the hands that he sat on and that pet him which he enjoyed. Don't know if it would have made of difference but did it anyway.

I recently got a GCC Sun Cheek and it quickly became apparent that she had never flown. She was flying crazy fast and kept running into things. I hate clipping but was considering it when she suddenly figured it out and would almost hover, flying so slow and careful. Every bird and every situation is different.

Oh my gosh how exciting!!!! Naming them is so much fun. Well I debated and debated about Yoshi's name and before I picked him up, I had a pic of him and would constantly try to think of a name of what he looked like to me. I thought of kiwi, Skittles, and even popcorn 😅 but then when I thought "Yoshi" it just clicked and I was like...he is definitely a Yoshi!!! Lol with popples, I knew I wanted to name him something that made me think of my daughter. Emry is OBSESSED with popsicles but she's a toddler and of course doesn't get every word pronounced just right lol popsicles to her, are 'popples' so it stuck :) you'll have to let me know what you end up picking! I love hearing different bird names people use lol

I can’t wait to get a space where I can have a bird again. I just adore Budgerigars and blue masked lovebirds are my favorite birds all time and the ones I have the most personal experience with. When it comes to clipping I see it as ok for handling and safety reasons. I feel all birds should be flight trained because it enriches their lives and it gives them their natural mobility. We had many Budgerigars all fully flighted but they all came clipped from the breeder except one . Sadly when my mom was cleaning out the cage during the adjustment period of that bird she lifted up the cage a tiny bit too much so there was a crack between the bottom and the cage and the bird got through and flew into a window... Breeders who clip birds before sending them off I feel do it to make sure the bird will be safe because accidents like this can happen when they are in a new space.

I'm generally against it, but I just clipped my cockatiel's wings a teeny bit, he's 14, after like... 8 years of not doing it. He's just developed this awful habit of flying away from me when I need to put him in his cage, no matter how calmly I approach him. I don't want to chase him for 15 minutes around the apartment every time I need to put him into his cage!

Hi Victoria. I didn't realize clipping wings was controversial. I'm new to the bird world. Early September a Pineapple Green cheek flew into the store where I work. Never had a bird in my life, but I fell in love with this bird. We had it for two weeks. I knew it was somebody's pet and I posted online and did locate her family. I gave the bird back to her family but IMMEDIATELY went out and bought myself a Pineapple Green cheek and I'm new to all the wonders involved but Love my new bird as well. Penelope flew 20 miles from her family, someone opened the door and out flew the bird. My immediate feeling was the birds wings should be clipped to prevent losing your bird. My new baby Kiwi had the wings clipped by the breeder and after watching your bird in your videos I don't want his wings clipped because I would love to see him react to our family like your bird does, but I will always fear the bird flying away if I don't clip. Its a really difficult decision.

First of all I liked the video. I like your attitude and all. I really didn’t wanna clip my parakeets wings but I have been thinking about it bc I didn’t realize how hard it was gonna be and I got 3 at first and then another so I have 4 and they are so close and they are like where the wanna stick together instead of bond with me. I wish I had got only 2 to begin with that way they would have a birdie companion but it wouldn’t be so hard for me emotionally bc they barely will even let me touch them :( it’s usually when they r roosting for the night they actually let me touch them, barely ...and I have wanted birds my whole life. One thing they do well is I let them fly around the room and chill and they go back n at night but I wondered if I clipped them once to get bonding time and then let them grow back out how that might go. Has someone dealt with this similar type of situation bc it’s like really breaking my heart.

I have 2 budgies. when we first got them, like in the first week, i dont know what happened. my mom opened the cage because she wanted to train them and all, and then they started flying all over the house. they flew way too high and every time they reach the ceiling they would bump their heads and fall. it was crazy. eventually we got them to calm down, and put them back in the cage. that was 3 months ago. ever since, we trained them from the cage. Today, we took them to the vet to get their wings clipped. we thought they were ready to come out but we were scared that it would happen all over gain like last time. so thats why we got their wings clipped. my mom brought them home afterwards and all day they've just been depressed. It made me so sad to see them like this. I dont know what im supposed to do. I wish i could go back in time and choose to not clip their wings. I hope tomorrow they'll be better. it breaks my heart to see them like this.

Hey girl! It is possible but you need a vet to do it. It involves removing a specific joint within the bird to stop them from growing back. If the wings have been trimmed (depending on how the person trimmed them) it usually takes anywhere from 9 months to a year to grow back. They come back when the bird molts which is typically once a year.

I've had a quaker for the past couple years. He's around 6 years old. He was clipped when I got him but he's got his flight feathers now. He has free reign of the house but has his favorite spots and his cage door is never closed. He goes to bed on his own. I've been scared about loosing him, just like you... and sure enough, he got spooked near an open door and took off. He got into some trees and I could hear him in there but couldn't see him. It was pouring rain but I stood there and called him for 5 hours, almost giving up but every time I heard him, it made me stay and keep trying. I couldn't believe it when he eventually flew to me. i'm still scared but not as much. I would like to know is where you got your harness. I would love to have one for Ozzy (my quaker). Hey fellow quaker mama! Oh my gosh I could not imagine how you felt when that happened. I bet you were so incredibly scared and worried. Thankfully hes back though and super neat that he ended up flying back to you :) this is my exact one amzn.to/2MIkUQN if the amazon link doesn't work just type in The Aviator Pet Bird Harness and Leash. Although it works great, I must say it is not my fav. Yoshi absolutely hates it and it is still to this day frustrating to put this on. I think it would work great with larger birds but when you're dealing with a smaller parrot, it can be difficult to get the little neck hole over his head especially if you have larger hands. It is also frustrating that the "leash" which stays attached, can't be adjusted. So you have this long annoying cord flopping around. This sounds very negative lol but I do think it will be beneficial for flight training with the leash which is the cord that stops him without jerking him or inflicting pain. I am currently looking at this one www.flightquarters.com/bird-diapers/product/royal-blue-flightsuit.html (Velcro Flight Suit with Leash) which is velcro and appears to be easier to put on without putting anything over my birds head (which he hates). Just make sure if you do pick this one, to get the one that includes the leash. They have different colors and prints as well. I'm going to do a flight suit vid in the future once I find one they like but that is my current situation regarding them. Hope this helps :)

I have done so much research and I agree, it depends on the bird and the situation. I keep my birds wings clipped because I want her to be safe. We live in the country and if a door is open she can be food for a Hawk or just lost in general. I have a blue Quaker as well, her name is Kui. She came to me clipped and doesn’t have her flight feathers yet but will clip them when they grow in. Thank you, it’s scary to have everyone against you though.

I took my six month old GCC to have a toe and beak trim ‘officially’ for the first time, as I’ve only had him for two months, and he was just starting to trust his new life. I did have to clip a few toenails myself because they were longer than the others, and I didn’t want him walking on uneven feet and have it potentially screw up his gait. The only place I trust (which is hard to find - I had been using them exclusively for around 15 years) is about an hour away, so off we went. When we arrived, everybody who has ever worked their knows about my strict policy for not clipping my bird’s wings - and especially since he was just getting the hang of flying, which I knew was late for his age, but his wings had been clipped when I got him. I had been giving him a lot of time and work and he was just coming around. So when I saw they had clipped his wings, I was pretty upset. I had spent so much time earning his trust, I felt horrible. He can’t even jump that far anymore. I was livid, so I called them and asked them why, after strict orders not too, they had clipped them anyway. They told me that whoever did it initially did a horrible job, and it was crucial that they evened them out for his sense of balance. I know a little bit about birds, having been a wildlife rehabber, and I think I should have at least been consulted. It’s been three days now and he’s still moping. He only broke his silence last night by cuddling and nuzzling my cheek, but they really cut them shorter than I’ve ever seen. It’s going to take some time before we can start working with flight training again. I don’t have any advice because I am a firm believer in the bird’s owner knowing what’s best for their bird and only they are in a place to know what is best for their own situation. And like you, I really dislike the way the topic is treated. It’s not a one-size-fits all situation, and there are zealots on both sides of this issue. You just can’t even bring it up on a thread that exists for the people who need the advice, but I think you did a stellar job of explaining it here - even knowing the Clip/non-Clip Nazis seem to just hang around on bird threads waiting for this topic you handled it very well. You have made sense out of the freaking topic once and for all. Kudos.

Thanks for this video. I did a video on this a month or so ago. Feel free to check it out for my details. Quick version.... 🙂I was originally 110% against clipping. No way. Now how. Until I had my first sun Conure, Charlie (in the photo), flew away. A simple mistaken caused me to lose my love. My current sun Conure, Dani, has his wings clipped. My breeder has been breeding birds for over 30 years and is an advocate of clipping. So she clipped them when I went to pick him up. I do want to eventually allow Dani’s wings to grow out. I’m a little fearful right now. I know I should have waited until I was over what happened with my Charlie before getting another bird. I am currently getting my my back and front porches screened in. So if a door is accidentally left open again, he will be safe. You would think he could fly. He climbs down off his cage and walks all over the house. He even climbs up my shower curtain. I call him my little peeking Tom. Lol!!!! There’s nothing more beautiful than a flighted bird. My intention is to allow his wings grow out eventually. He’s only 6 month old, I haven’t decided on if I will get them clipped once more after they grew out. His safety and happiness comes first.

My Quaker and Sun hatched in 2004 and at that time clipping was recommended. I kept them clipped for the first few years of their lives. I would say until they were like 4 or 5. Both birds have been flighted for most of their lives. Unfortunately my Quaker developed a large cancer tumor on her wing which prevented her from being able to fly. Because of its size and muscle involvement, her wing ended up being amputated. She can’t fly but son r the surgery she has been much happier and talking more. It’s a year since the amputation and she still has that big Quaker personality. I get sad when people say things like “birds are meant to fly”. So test this topic upsets me because her reason for not being able to fly was to preserve her life.

Like don't get me wrong, I know it serves a good purpose, it's just not for me. I go hiking and camping lots would like them to walk around and explore and instead of being tied up or staying in a cage while I have the fun. I also do it for behavioral issues because once the time comes around they'll misbehave like crazy. It's only in winter and spring I'll let them fly around all over the house

I never clip my birds wings. They love flying around. It’s not necessary if you keep the conditions in your home so that they have no way out of it. They fly around the house and land on my head and shoulders every one minute 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I don’t imagine my birds without their wings😢 But notice that i raised my birds since they were 25 days. I fed them since babies so I’m like a mommy for them.🤗 But if you get a grown bird i do recommend to have their wings clipped. Just for taming purposes and after that you may leave their wing feathers grow.

When i got my green cheek conure, the breeder clipped only one wing. But by the time i got him, the clipped wing was already growing back. so i didnt clip the other. i did short flights with him so he would build his muscle. Once he got all his feathers, i never clipped him for like a year. He started flying around the house so fast, he sometimes ran into walls. We decided to clip all his flight feathers besides the first feathers. He could fly just as well. So we fully clipped his flight feathers. i am against clipping wings. but it was for his safety. while he was clipped i worked on lots of recall. now, he has all his feathers back and does recall perfectly. he sometimes goes fast around the house but now he knows how to control himself in flight and can land easy. Im soon getting a quaker parrot and i will clip him when i first get him so he can get used to me and his new surroundings.

I can see the benefit, but I think it depends more on the individual (bird and owner) as to whether it's a good idea or not, some birds are very shy, which can make them harder to get close enough to work with, at the same time some people aren't light footed, or tactful, which will make it harder for them to work with ANY bird, all in I think I'm confident in saying I don't think I'll ever need to have wings clipped, but if one day I find that I'm wrong, would I do it? Yes, as a solution to a problem I'm facing, but if there's no medical reason for keeping it clipped let the feathers grow back in! Ultimately I believe that birds are supposed to fly, dogs are supposed to walk and fish are supposed to swim, if we're in a good position to allow it, why would we deny it?

Great video and delivered in a meek and humble spirit. God bless. Here in India an African Grey will lay you back fifty grand ($650) and a Blue n gold will lay you back a hundred and thirty grand ($1600). Having spent that kinda money, I ain’t gonna take chances having a pet bird fly out the door never to return. No, they may not fly out intentionally to get away from a loving owner, but a startled bird that flies out the door usually never returns (they’re not pigeons ya know). So yes, I keep both my Grey and my Macaw’s flight feathers clipped. It’s safer that way for all of us. Just sayin’

We already have them as pets, meaning they're captive, so clipping their wings won't hurt them even if it's temporary. My birds actually walk on the floor a lot too lol. Their wings are back though, mostly my Lovebird is the flyer of them all, he flies and walks wherever he wants in the house haha.

I encourage anyone who wants more information on this issue to read the following: adventuresofroku.com/pages/wing-clipping-articles I'm not hating, and I DO understand that some birds are clipped for legitimate reasons. But there is just no way a bird will achieve the same level of physical and mental stimulation when clipped as they would while flighted. Flight plays an integral part in their brain development, motor skills, physical fitness, confidence, and overall behaviour. This topic is controversial for a reason. Clipping was the go-to for birds for such a long time, but that practice was born from human ignorance and convenience; it is, frankly, not a preferable situation for the bird. To people who take clipping lightly: please, visit the link I posted. Flight more often keeps birds safe than it does endanger them. I have two birds who are free flight trained and many other small birds like budgies who are flighted in the house. The reason your bird was returned to you was at least partially because he was flighted. Clipped birds can and do fly farther than you might think with the help of adrenaline and/or wind, but they are handicapped and cannot escape danger or seek food/water/shelter.

I have 2 birds that I have had for around 4 years. One was hand trained from a baby. The other was wild, raised by a flock. Until that second the flock bird was trust worthy, I kept its wings clipped. Now they are allowed to fly around the house for exersise and enrichment. Clipping their wings made it easier to get her out of potentially harmful situations. I just got 2 more birds. They are flying, but babies. I keep their wings clipped. In 6 months it will be different. They are wild. They bite, and they resist and do the unexpected. Until they are trustworthy, I will clip their wings, even though the two older birds have free flight for a few hours per day in the house. People will judge everything you do.

I have a one year old Quaker named Loki. Not sure if it’s a male or female. I’ve heard good and bad things about getting them dna tested because you have to stress them out. One time Loki got outside and flew in a tree but luckily Loki loves her mommies very much so it flew back to us. After that we decided clipping was necessary. Loki used to fly like a psycho around the entire house and I was so afraid Loki would get hurt. Now the feathers are growing back and I’m on the fence about clipping again. Having a cat and two dogs I feel it is needed so they don’t get stressed out too. They all get along great. The dogs and cat want nothing to do with the bird and mind their own business, except the time when Loki bit off part of the cats ear. 🙄

The outright aggression of some bird owners or wannabe-owners or even anti-owners over the subject of clipping just amazes me. When I was younger, my family had an aviary for several of our birds, and some of the birds started their lives indoors. Some birds, we actually *had to clip for their own safety* because believe it or not, *some birds are terrible at flying*. I'm not kidding. Some have no knack for it, as stupid as that sounds. At least one bird, I am convinced may have been autistic*, because she was always socially awkward among all our other cockatiels, she was slightly neurotic, had a terrible memory for people or familiar situations, and had to be "reminded" frequently that she was actually safe. At well over 20 years old, having spent her entire life with our family, no matter how many times she would attempt to fly when she was out, she had no sense of direction, no skill, no understanding, and she would take off in random directions, scare herself into a panic at even being airborne, and smack full force into walls and windows. I was forced to keep her trimmed, so at worst, she'd take off, work very hard to stay aloft, and flutter to to some furniture across the room. She always looked devastated by her own attempts to fly, clipped or not, and was much happier sitting on/in her cage or cuddling at my neck. (*I am also autistic, and this bird assumed I was her mate as I became an adult, because I as the only "being" she had trust for over the years, since I was always there for her.) *Every bird's personality, intelligence, instinct, behavior, living situation... should be taken into account before clipping.*

My Family's bird (parakeet) was clipped when I was a little girl. I clipped mine until we got to know each other. It is Fine to do that if you so wish. The Shephard of a little lamb that would keep running off, would break the legs of the lamb then carry it everywhere with him across his shoulders. When the legs were healed the lamb would be so attached to his master that he would not stray anymore but would follow the shephard. Was that cruel? No...because the lamb's life was spared from the big bad Wolf. So...by the time your little ones learn to open the door to outside well...it may be time to clip once again to spare the precious ones from flying off. Nice video! Best Wishes for you and your family! 😊

Victoria Ryann I’m sorry if that sounded rude I wasn’t trying to be. I don’t want to clip my birds wings not because I once saw this video on tiktok. It had This cockatiel in it and his previous owners before the tiktoker had gotten that bird they had clipped the birds wings and it was making the cockatiel not be able to keep his balance so he would flail about and he was growing blood feathers and when he would lose his balance he would flap his wings and his blood feathers would break and then he had to go to the vet. However I do agree with your opinion on the fact that sometimes it is sometimes safer to clip your birds wings because maybe their freaking out and flying everywhere and running into stuff but when you clip your birds wings they can’t really fly and it’s then a much easier process for them and for you to get them used to a new house or something new in a house. Anyway back to the cockatiel. So before I had seen the video on tiktok of the cockatiel I was on the side of yes you should clip your birds wings. But then I saw that video and was completely against it. But after seeing this video I believe that clipping your birds wings like on routine is not ok. But if you only do it when you need to it justifies it in a sense. Because if you need to to like make it so that it’s easier to train them. Sometimes doing that makes it easier to train them and get through the process.

When I was very young we had a fully flighted yellow Budgerigar and a Cairn Terrier which got along fine in a huge open livingroom-diningroom and kitchen connected so the bird was a very experienced flier. The bird got really cocky around the dog and started sitting on its head then proceeding to pick at the dogs fur. It seemed the dog didn’t mind. That continued for months until the dog finally whipped its head around and killed the bird without warning. I do not mix predator and prey.

By cutting the wings of a parrot we make it a slave of ourselves. They cannot fly and therefore they try to climb on us to not remain alone, awful. I've seen some videos of the lady, if she doesn't know how to relate to the parrots she should give them away and not mutilate them. What we want from a parrot? a good relationship! We that he trust us, I don't see how a relationship can be created by clipping wings. What a shame.
