Historically when a jedi plays the double agent to defeat the evil guy from the inside out it never works. It didn't work for Ulic Qel Droma, Quinlan Voss and it didn't work for Luke either. What’s interesting about this is that it’s exactly what Palpatine tried to explain to Anakin when he made his initial dark side sales pitch. “Anakin....In order to understand the great mystery, one must embrace all its aspects, not just the narrow, dogmatic view of the Jedi. In order to become a complete and wise leader, one must embrace a ~larger~ view of the force.” Even though I wasn’t a fan of the clone Palpatine concept, I do really like the lesson Luke learned and his enlightened perspective at the end. It’s such a tragedy that this enlightened Luke was tossed out and replaced with a humiliated coward who knew nothing and almost killed his own nephew.
@angelangelis83624 жыл бұрын
The ultimate Irony here is that, while this was what Palpatine tried to use to lure Anakin to the Dark Side, he didn't really believe it. Palpatine never saw any real value in the Light Side of the Force beyond what it could do to benefit him and his schemes. As such he delved deeper and deeper into the Dark Side until it consumed him, whether he realized it or not. Luke proved that his lie was actually the truth. The Force is not good or evil, the Force is the Force. It will come to all who call on its power within reason, but to wield the Dark Side without balance will always cost you, just like wielding the light only ever seemed to make one more emotionally distant or even seemingly empty Inside.

@@DeathScepter Yes but I would argue that there's a difference between healthy fear & blind fear. I love this era of Jedi, I especially loved Plo Koon's & Ashoka's relationship in Clone Wars, as well as getting to know all the Masters a little better. But they definitely allowed their fears to lead them into being pawns in their own demise, keeping secret after secret from both the Senate and from their fellow Jedi. They literally isolated themselves through their fear & chose to wait for the Sith to make a mistake even as they were being penned into a trap. It's what makes Luke's journey so great learning from both the wisdom of the Jedi and the mistakes to build something truly better for all xx
@DeathScepter4 жыл бұрын
@@jintym2951 Well It is an organization, being used like a pawn is the normal. Also Secrets by its nature, can't be always be understood by others. For example with Force users like Jedi and Sith, They experience Reality differently than your average Non Force Users. Explaining the Force to the Non Force Users will be hard in the best times, so explaining themselves to the Senate and Public will leave a lot of the public head scatching. Also Most Jedi Masters have a good reason to keep their secrets private from their Knights and Padawans due to that if told the natural confusion will occur.
@jintym29514 жыл бұрын
@@DeathScepter Absolutely true. Chain of command in any organisation necessitates that some things be known only to those at the top, doubly so in a time of war. However, by the end of the Clone Wars this reasonable compartmenting of information had become less of a relegation of information than a habitual need to keep secrets, which in the final days turned into full (albeit justified) paranoia. They trusted no one any more. And what's worse they failed to accept a simple truth, all things must eventually fade even institutions like the Republic & indeed the Jedi Order. Their fear of the Sith led to frustration with the non-Force organisations that frankly didn't care about the Sith. This frustration fueled their hate of the Sith for the threat posed to a mostly oblivious galaxy. This led them to blindly walk into the machinations of the Sith to the suffering of pretty much everyone. If the Prequel Trilogy had to be narrowed down into just 1 message, it would be that the road to hell is laid by good intentions. Thanks for this fun debate btw 🤓 xx

It wasn’t until ROTS that Lucas retroactively made him an overpowered duelist. It’s extremely obvious that when Lucas wrote ROTJ, Palpatine was just a feeble old man who had a few tricks with the force up his sleeve. Dark Empire might not be the greatest Star Wars story ever told, but I love it exactly for this, for what lessons it provides to Luke. Great analogy of Luke and his exploration of the dark side. His realization that the dark side of the force is something that should be explored carefully and respected versus feared and forbidden truly makes Luke one of the greatest Jedi of all time. You didnt mention though how Luke became too immersed in the dark side unable to find his way back to the light side after the death of the cloned Palpatine. They say the darkside is tempting. I always figured it to be something that made you feel powerful. Yet it is usually described as something that sucks you in. However, as a person you don’t have to do bad things to achieve a goal. So I’m going to take something from wheel of time. When a channeller channels saidar or saidin it’s described almost as if it were a drug. It made you feel more alive. And the dark one’s true power he’d allow some of the channellers to touch was even more addictive like heroin. Though I’ve never seen the darkside described in such a way it almost seems like they may be trying to convey it in such a way. Once you start on the darkside it’s hard to stop. Could you not just be a Jedi and throw some force lightning to short circuit a security panel to free some prisoners? Or do you have to be angry and you have to want to hurt somebody to even come close to throwing a bolt of lightning?

I've been trying to get into these comics, but honestly have no idea where to start. I read some of the old Marvel ones as a boy, and from what I remember they pretty much emulated the movies. Any suggestions as to where I should start?
@qualityautismNoah4 жыл бұрын
If you want this Story, read the Dark Empire comic Trilogy by Tom Veitch. It has a sorta sequel Trilogy called Crimson Empire, about one of Palpatines Red Guards. Then there's the series "Legacy" (which plays 130 years after the movies) by John Ostrander and Jan Duursema about the drug addict Bounty Hunter Cade Skywalker. That also has a sequel series called "Legacy Volume 2" by Corinna Bechko and Gabriel Hardmann about the Scavenger Ania Solo.

I wouldn't have a problem with this philosophy, if it weren't for one fact: every single dark side user immediately turns into a mass murderer on the order of billions. Call me crazy, but that sounds like a massive drawback to me.
@rachelwinter3654 жыл бұрын
HCBailly that's not actually true. When you research Darth Vectivus, the night sisters of Dathomir, Darth Marr (to an extent as he was a warrior and fought and killed on the battlefield), etc you realize there are many that weren't compelled to be mass murderers . Really the dark side is dangerous when someone is prone to mania, has even a slight amount of problems with impulse control, and isn't completely clear on what they want the power for (that uncertainty can leave people constantly angry at never feeling truly fulfilled and addicted to having even the smallest and most short-sighted win). Basically the dark side isn't completely evil, most just don't have the temperament and mindset to deal with it without losing themselves

If u understand the darkside isn't a mindful choice like "I choose the darkside". Its more so a emotional state that can overtake ANYONE that will lead u towards dark deeds m actions...im not sure one chooses the darkside rather you let the darkside overtake you according to your emotional state ie. Anger, fear, the feeling of powerlessness ect....this is why anyone can turn to the darkside. Even the most purest best intentioned..its because its not a choice rather an emotional state the leaves u ripe for the darksides taking.. people can make choices be it good or bad or in between..its alot harder to choose your emotions, impossible even..therefore the darkside will always be there waiting for the wrong (or right) jedi to slip up..

Interesting it seems who ever you are there is a dark unknown path. You can choose to go a path you know the outcome and sometimes there is a path that has different results. Choosing the dark side in a situation where its kill or be killed may be the only way, my enemies enemy. there is clarity within goodness and evil but switching paths is always the darkest,maybe thats the essence of becoming a sith clouding all judgment. thank you for this video.

So in the last Jedi the entire thing with Kylo was him questioning and being fearful of the future was Luke going against what he came to know? It seems like that would have significantly changed what the movie depicts. I’ll admit tho that I haven’t really read much of the Star Wars books to know if this gets explained but that’s my 2 cents.

Hey guys, Emperor Palpatine here, to understand why one side cannot be defeated, you must think outside the box and realize that you need enemies in order to give you purpose in life. When I was once a Jedi they rejected me and didn't make me a jedi master so I went on a vendetta to end the jedi order but the Skywalker family (yes I am a skywalker as well) will always be spared.

Damar Glover I see your point but beating vader is no small feet vader changed his whole style to kill Jedi and luke was trained by the greatest Jedi the order had yoda and obi wan for that matter but even though anakin's style was my favorite it would be to hard to say who would win I think luke might win though because his will would be greater
@damarglover63634 жыл бұрын
@@deanblue5077 I think alot of Luke beating Vader is due to 1. Luke building his lightsaber style to counter Vader's and 2. Vader wasn't fighting at a 100 percent due to him internally fighting with himself. I think Anakins more fast pace and acrobatic style might be too much of a change up for rotj Luke but I do believe whoever wins the other person definitely makes them have to work for the win

This is the Luke I wanted to see in the sequels. This thinking it what enable his Jedi to get married and have children by always being aware of the dark side and how it effect their lives and them personally with in their selves. Why they just couldn't do a 30th anniversary and just went though and rewrite the EU to bring it more in line with the prequels is beyond me. It would of been much better and less expensive then what they did with Star Wars. Keeping the old characters, revamping the stories, and most importantly keeping the old fans while gaining new ones.
@emzonik88512 жыл бұрын
Well, Dark Empire should've been rewritten, that's true, however I wouldn't really agree with all the post-rotj EU stories being rewritten. I like pre-prequel stories and newer ones having defferent feal to Star Wars but still existing within the same continuity, it makes it mkre interesting. Dark Empire doesn't really fir the Lore, that's why it should've been remade. But the Thrawn trilogy, Jedi Academy, Crimson Empire, New Jedi Order etc, are fine as they are.
@kmthunderheartt61682 жыл бұрын
@@emzonik8851 I can agree to that. The main reason why they would of need to rewrite the EU books, is to add Ahonska and the other characters that would of survived after ROTJ.
@emzonik88512 жыл бұрын
@@kmthunderheartt6168 Actually the fact that those characters play a role in post-Rotj timeline within the New Canon (cos Feloni can't ever let anything of his go xd) doesn't mean they had to to in Legends continuity. Legends Ahsoka for example, was possibly killed within the first months/years of the Galactic Empire, or maybe she simply didn't do anything significant after leaving Anakin in TCW season 5. Same with Cad Bane, captain Rex etx, or some of the prequel characters. Their ansence doesn't really contradict the timeline. The only thing I would've added would be a few short stories, Tales or sth simmilar within the post-prequel timeline, that would've acknowledge the existance of the newer stuff, give any actual connection between the old and the new. For example, Anakin's ghost telling Luke to fimd and burry Ahsoka's remains left somewhere by Vader.
@kmthunderheartt61682 жыл бұрын
@@emzonik8851 True, they could simply said they died. I don't think they would of done it for the money they can make off Ahonka. but that would of been the easiest way to do it. And they would of made much more then what they did if they just went off the EU Books. Definitely a better Luke.
@emzonik88512 жыл бұрын
@@kmthunderheartt6168 Yeah, although basing new movies on the EU books would have been propably hard as hell (to keep it all consistant) and some people would've disliked the Vong arch which is essential in post-GCW period (not that they wouldn't have liked it more than "7-9"). Imo they should've just focused on the spin-offs, like the Old Republic or like they did with Rogue 1 and Solo but in a way that would fit the old lore. Battle of Toprawa was a perfect idea for a movie, that could've been basically the same R1, with a few small tweaks to it. And maybe, if they could find a way to do it without mentioning the post-rotj archs of Luke and the crew - going for Legacy arch with Cade and Krayt (which would still be hard cos Legacy is related to the Vong arch and flashbacks are often shown - imo still managable tho). Nevertheless, for Star Wars it would've been honestly the best if Lucasfilm hadn't been sold, but George Lucas had just retired and have someone else running the stuff under his eye. They would've focused on those spin-offs including video games that were in motion (1313 & Maul clone from Legacy era) and the shows, without any major story that would break the EU. That's actually what George intended circa 2008-2011 before changing his mind and briefly trying to prepare another trilogy only to change his mind yet again and finally sell SW to white slavers. As for real possibilities, I still think reviving Legends continuity through new books and comics (at least at the beginning, later on possibly even games) is a great idea to bring back older fans, who have been alienated for years now.
