Yes, but no. There's more to Australia than just the size of its military. It's a strategic location. With Pillar 2 comes tomahawks, which can reach out to the critical straights below malaysia, so they can stop shipping. Also, the CIA has the Pine gap base in the middle of the country. It's the only trusted ally on that side of the planet that has a land mass big enough to stop spy ships getting close enough to it. That base Grabs the satalites for that third of the planet which covers all of the US's enemies, China, Russia, north korea, Iran etc. Also, with Australia acquiring Virginia subs it will have the experience to repair/maintain allied subs in the north. But in terms of Defence force size, the army is small yes. But The Navy is set to double. Not just in hull, but tonnage. It already has one of the largest amphibious capabilities in the world, ahead of france and behind the UK, which is important as a china war will be all about island hoping. Furthermore, when the SSN's come alone, Australia will have more than the UK navy. This is small fry in comparison to what Japan and Korea can bring. But Japan already has a bigger blue water navy than china. Korea is very economically dependant on china, far more so than Australia. Plus they are more worried about North korea, so realistically the Korean Peninsula would just sit this one out. The other factor is time. The Navy increase to Australia wouldn't really gain % wise over china, just keep pace. That navy level up is decades away, but that's ok. Right now the US still has double the tonnage of the Chinese navy. So it still has a strong advantage, but the Chinese are outpacing them in ship building capacity. However, thanks to the one child policy China will be facing a demographic collapse by then, so it places china in an awkward spot either way.

very insightful. I am a South Korean. This episode is telling the true nature of the rapidly developing Trilateral Framework. (TF: the US, Japan, South Korea). Let me add some from the South Korean perspective. The countries under the most serious existential threat are the US, Japan and SK ( if I may put aside Taiwan, for the time being). Even UK and Austrailia are enjoying a much more 'comfortable' position. I am NOT being judgemental. I am just trying to be cool. But these three countries are undergoing a very serious domestic challenge. For 8 years, the US has been trying to find out the solution for the burning questions like what is true globalism and how it can strengthen/restore itself as a nation. Japan is struggling with the fundamental failure of its economy. Its only strength is its people's miraculous patience. But being patient does not guarantee an economic revival. SK is suffering from infilteration/influence by China and NK. And from population collapse. In short, each of these three countries are suffering from its own internal weakness. If each and every one of these three countries somehow manages to cope with its weakness, and if they succeed in consolidating the TF, the CCP/PLA will lose big. Japan is big and has the highest technolgy for materials and sensors. Recently they succeeded in test-firing land-launched Hypersonic Gliding Vehichle. And they proved the most powerful sensor for tracking HGV. (Just after the test firing, the US struck a deal with Japan to co-develop HGV interception systems, in May) Japan is operating 660K tons of war ships. From Chinese naval power, if we exculde coastal patrol ships (about 400k tons, almost useless in a proper maritime warfare where China does not have air dominance) and amphibious/landing ships(about 500K tons, useless when China does not have air dominance), the Chinese warship tonnage is about 1 mil., which is slightly larger than the sum of those of Japan and SK. (The US is operating more than 3 mil. tons) As depicted in this episode, South Korea is the mass poduction power house for quality non-nuke weapons. Its armed forces is 550K in service and about 3 mil. in reserve, who can fight as good as those in service. Including the Civil Defense Corps, SK can mobilize about 5 to 6 mil. people, not counting old volunteers like me, who is 65 years old in good health. ( I can handle rifles, machine guns and mortars). SK is armed to the teeth with 4 digit number of medium range cruise missiles and non-nuke ballistcs which can reach Beijing. The US is stationing about 80,000 men/women in Japan and SK (sorry for being binary. Men and women are the only genders I understand). I guess the US is using about 100 bases in these two countries The Camp David framework, I mean the TF, is very, very powerful. China has earned it.

India is keeping far away from this and as a return gift, USA is colluding with China to de-stabilize India's North-Eastern region. USA just did a regime change in Bangladesh and will now force Bangladesh to open a new US military base there whereas China is using proxies to take control of Myanmar. Next move is for both China and USA to send their proxies into India's North-Eastern states and de-stabilize India from within. USA and China are both a blight on this world.

It's funny that these "double the number of science and engineering graduates than Germany, the US (etc.) combined" can't reverse engineer a Soviet aircraft engine from the 80s! What am I talking about? The Shenyang J-15 carrier-aircraft ist a copy of the Soviet SU-33 (of which the PLAN acquired a prototype alongside the carrier that they rebuild and named Liaoning!), but the Chinese version lacks THRUST! It can't take off with both full weapons load and fully fuelled! Only one these, otherwise that thing is too heavy to launch!
@dianapennepacker68542 ай бұрын
Without the metallurgy, precise manufacturing, and electronic software? You can try copying an engine all you want, but you aren't cranking it up to full power without it self destructing. I'll be honest.... That is my guess on why Russia and China haven't been able to duplicate western engines. Even their tank engine for the T 14 pales in comparison. So it is like what gives? Like I know they hwve the designs, the grubby theiving twits. Probably have the original blue prints smuggled through some spies ass. So why can't they duplicate them? I came up with that, because no one can ever answer it.

AUKUS and the QUAD are looking more and more like a the beginning of a future Indian Pacific mutual military defence treaty organisation modelled on NATO. Less about containing China and more about protecting a range of smaller democratic nations from potential military adventurism by powerful, or stupidly belligerent Autocracies. If so, both AUKUS and the QUAD are likely to either be dissolved and incorporated into the new organisation, or remain as a quieter secondary treaty running in the background. But the new organisation is likely to hold a different name. Possibly PITO(Pacific Indian Treaty Organisation)?
