In this series, I assemble what I believe is the greatest team possible for each franchise. In this specific video, we're looking at the Utah Jazz.
5 starters, 5 backups, and 3 rotations players. A total of 13 roster spots on each Ultimate Team. It's not just about talent, but it's about building a team that works and gels together.

Don't sleep on how Dantley can contribute to that, as well. He and Maravich will know when to pass rather than go for the points, Eaton and Malone will make the shots when they get it, and Stockton will make sure the ball is wherever the percentages are on its side.

I love this team. This is actually a legit very powerful team. The reason to me this team is so powerful is because they have the right players in each positions to make a powerful team. Lot of other teams would have better players but they would more be in similar positions but this team actually has players in different positions to make it a great team. And that floor spacing and shooting would be crazy for the starters. Superb small ball team while having great defense with the big men.

Hey Jonny!! I'm loving this series so far, I'm learning a lot. A suggestion, please can you pick also a coach for this Ultimate Teams, they can be as powerfull as you want, but I think the X/O part it's essential as well. Maybe when you finish with all the teams you can make a video call "The Ultimate Coaches for the Ultimate Teams" or something like that. Thanks and Keep going with the good content.

A lot of people have been asking for that. I think it’s a little too late in the series to just start picking, because I haven’t been up to this point, but me and my editor plan on doing a lot with the series once it’s done. We want to rank the teams, and I wanna do a 2k simulation and react to what happens, and during that video, we’ll probably also pick coaches for all 30 teams. I think that’s probably the best approach at this point.

Just adding Pete Maravich to the Stockton-Malone pairing makes Jazz title contenders in my book. The two were, after all, the exemplary pairing of the nineties, and Pistol Pete was Pistol Pete! Joking aside, this is a solid team and, lest we forget, the media did try to spin Williams and Boozer as the successors to Stockton and Malone. This team can definitely make a deep run in this Ultimate NBA league.

What’s notable with this team hypothetically is that Utah wouldn’t have the problem they did in the 90’s, with Stockton and Maravich together. As is, it’s been said that the team was predictable with Stockton passing as much as he did.

@@fortynights1513 It's one thing when coaching says 3s only if nothing else works, and you only have one solid offensive player - it's not hard to guess there's probably a pass coming, and where it's probably going, yet Malone still scored a career average of 25 PPG, because you couldn't be sure if, when or how the Stockton-Malone pass was coming. With two equally probable passing options and a directive to go for 3s, predicting what Stockton's doing and stopping it will not be nearly as easy as it wasn't.

Really loving this series so far. Big kudos for going through the history of all these teams to put these together. Utah would be a very solid team in the Ultimate NBA, and they could very well make the playoffs. The Jazz were always tough to beat in the Stockton-Malone-Eaton era, and adding Pistol Pete and Adrian Dantley means they would have some serious firepower when the starting five are on the floor. Good to see some love for Hornacek here as a rotation player too. He might not be at the level of the rest of the backcourt ahead of him, but I feel like he's a bit underrated as a solid and reliable shooter from an era that wasn't as focused on 3 point shots as the modern NBA.
@michaelsloane9955
@michaelsloane9955 6 ай бұрын
This starting lineup has really good balance. You have Malone being the dominant finisher and inside scorer, Dantley providing moves and mid range scoring, and Stockon and Maravich providing the ball handling, passing, and 3 point shooting. This lineup is perfect for Eaton because with those other 4 guys on the floor it doesn't matter that Eaton isn't much of a scorer and he can focus on what's best at and that's rim protection and shot blocking on the defensive end. Gobert is the perfect backup for Eaton. Hornacek is a perfect is a perfect end of the bench guy for situations in which you need more 3 point shooting. (Down 3 with a few seconds left, down 14 and need to seek 3s to get back in it etc.) This team doesn't have as much talent as the top teams in the Ultimate team west but the strong roster construction with pieces that fit together and the completeness of this team would make them a playoff team. The Lakers would easily be the 1 seed. Then, I see the Warriors, Rockets, Spurs as the 2-4 seeds. I'm thinking the Suns, Nuggets, Mavericks, and Jazz round out the playoff teams at 5-8 in some order. I'm not as big on the Thunder as some people might be. They're only in their 16th year of existence and while KD is awesome, I'm NOT a Westbrook guy at all and think Harden is somewhat overrated as well. Back to the Jazz though. Obviously, Malone, Stockton, and Maravich are all time greats and Eaton is an all time great at what he excelled at, but I think Dantley is EXTREMELY underrated, ESPECIALLY Utah Jazz Dantley. Dantley to me is a top 15 small foward of all time.

As a long-time Jazz fan, the only surprise here was that Griffith didn't make the team. That said, these are all excellent choices and a very good team. Along with Griffith, Okur is the other of your honorable mentions that I've often had on my all time Jazz roster (but I often add a "tenure with team" element, which would exclude Markkanen -- for the time being). If you bump the roster up to a 15-man NBA squad, adding those two is easy and includes the all very best of the franchise's entire history.

Awesome video, Jonny :). A backcourt of Stockton and Maravich would be amazing. Combined with Dantley and Malone, they would be so hard to stop. Eaton was an incredible center and was so intimidating. The starting 5 is great. I remember Deron Williams and how he was on Team USA too. He was a great PG. I remember how there was the debate about whether he or Chris Paul was better, so I think he's an excellent choice for PG. Combined with Mitchell, they would be a solid backcourt also. The Jazz have a lot of great guards. Kirilenko was awesome too. He reminds of Eaton in his shotblocking (of course, Eaton's the better shotblocker, but AK 47 was a great shotblocker also, as you stated). I remember being amazed by his defense and he was decent offensively too. And, I agree, alongside Boozer and Gobert they'd be a tough front court to score on. Hornacek is a great rotation choice. He was ahead of his time with his shooting. I was a bit surprised to see Markkanen as a rotation player, but you make a great case about how his play style is different. I remember Hayward excelling before too. The Jazz have some solid rotation players and I like how balanced they are with offense and defense. It'd be so hard to score on them and they have plenty of firepower along with much depth. Great video :). Hope you're having a nice Saturday.

i got a suggestion for a series, each week you choose one top 15 all time player to build around, with the following rules maximum of 3 all stars per starting five (could be superstars or just normal all stars) maximum of 2 all defense players per team the other you gotta choose any roleplayer of your choosing your challenge is to build around that one top 15 player and enhance his skills and that would actually be extremely competitive together with any player from nba history with the rules predisposed

The problem with this type of project is that basketball always changes. For instance, in 80-90s ball, you probably start Eaton, 2014-and beyond, you have to go with Gobert because of his ability to run the floor. Gobert can also switch better than Eaton if that was the style of play dictated by the rules and the opponent's lineup. My other qual is that it was mentioned that the best player wouldn't necessarily be chosen for a lineup for chemistry reasons, yet the role players, like Karalinko aren't picked for the starting lineup. Malone and Pistol Pete are already enough of a one, two punch, and Stockton fills in the third option well enough. Karalinko has more value in the starting five imo because of his versatility.

As a fan of this team for 36 years, I would agree with all your selections of the players. However I would make one change to the starting line up. I would put AK 47 as the starter. With all due respect for AD the ball would stick too much with Karl and Ad together. Also where AD scored most of his points was in the post. I think that Karl and AD would clog the paint too much. AK 47 would give the team more spacing, better ball movement, and better defense. I that if AK 47 played the small forward instead of the Byron Russell the Jazz might have beaten the Bulls in one of those series.

@@c99kfm Stockton should've shot way more. He was a very consistent 60% on 2's and 42% on threes in all situations. He is actually one of the best Shooting PG 's or all time with Price, Curry and a few others. Nash while Thomas was good in big games.

The Utah Jazz, aka the Minnesota Vikings of basketball. A team that that will a decoration of regular season wins and high playoff seeding. This team is a balanced unit of every single thing you need. Offense, perimeter and interior defense, post movement, spacing, 3 point shooting, anything you need. They will definitely make the playoffs. But the problem is that they never won anything as a franchise. Home court advantage? Too bad, you'll probably lose that series anyways. Great bench? Invisible in playoff time. But they have Stockton and Malone you say. Well, they took 12 years just to even reach the Finals, which is insane for the amount of talent they had surrounding them. 2 Finals appearances? You'll just lose to MJ both times. A surprising WCF appearance in 2007 due to avoiding the Mavericks? Here's a well-oiled Spurs machine and Kobe in back to back years to ruin that. This team let the CLIPPERS reach a conference final. It's just maddeningly frustrating to see this franchise constantly choke over and over again. And it's why I have them as a first round exit despite the talent. See you for the Kings. Me ranting: I wouldn't feel that badly for them though considering their racist fanbase (not all of them, obviously) that rival Boston, ownership screwing over New Orleans and keeping the Jazz name despite it having nothing to do with Utah, Karl Malone getting a 13 year old pregnant...Do you notice I say all this as someone that should be indifferent towards the franchise? That's a problem.

They've never had a dynamic full court player that can ge his own shots. Malone really needed Stockton to get open. They would've won thought had it been against anyone else other than Jordan. Had it been the Pacers they would've beat them. Jazz had one of the best defenses.

I know that he was only around for a season but TOM CHAMBERS was a Big deal. He scored the bucket that TIED the Assist Record for Stockton.

Antoine Carr was a key reason why the Jazz made the Finals in both 97 and 98. His post up offense off the bench is what did it. He was a lot better than his stats. Though he probably won't make the all time Jazz team. He should make the bench on the Hawks all time team.

man, this team is so great, all of their talent could have chemistry and play like a really great unit team under Sloan as a coach. The only problem to me for not consider them like top 5 of the best all time team is Dantley and Mitchell, they are ball stoppers, as soon as the ball is in their hands, they are going to shoot no matter what. Dantley costed Detroit a championship in 88 for that behavior, and the Lakers and Utah got rid of his ass for that too. I have watched like 3 or 4 full games of his, and he is not a team player, just like Knicks Melo. Mitchell is young, hope he will change.

It's a bit disrespectful to take Eaton over Gobert, especially if you think about how today's game treats guys with Eaton physical attributes, but other than that your selection seems very logical.

I’d take AK47 over Dantley for the first unit. As great of a pure scorer as Dantley was, he was a ball stopper that had no interest in playing defense. As beautiful as the ball movement of that back court would be, it takes but one ball hog to ruin it. AK would make the right play by not trying to do too much. Dantley would be a great scorer for the second unit, especially in the half court when the game slows down. I’d also take Milsap over Boozer because of his defense. Overall, this is one of the sneaky teams in the West.
