You guys haven't heard much of Steven Finn lately on TMS. The guy is real deal and he knows some stuffs about radio commentry. He is really top-notch and should be the main summariser for TMS in near future. One underrated name, you guys forgot, is Vic Mark. He's also brilliant. Simon Mann the most prepared cricket commentator I know.

I’ll never forget Fred Trueman’s response to Tony Greig’s Barb about not remembering Fred’s career implying how long ago it was. Trueman’s response was a dry “have a look in the record books sonny. It’s all there. Best comeback ever.

I think Cook and Finn will become great addition to the radio commentary with a few years more, although I find it hard to separate their voices. A new star I would pick is Alex Hartley, she good at explaining spin, but also can lark about and seem a ditz. I personally think that it going to be a good listen when I know she on the team

John Arlott. "Aaand we have a streaker...........it's not particularly shapely.......and it's masculine......and I imagine it has seen the last of its cricket for today" all delivered with a dead pan Hampshire accent. His cricket knowledge was second to none & most importantly he knew that a few seconds silence could be comedy gold or create great drama & suspense.
That point about knowing what Boycott was going to say before he said it; the sky team was an extreme example of that in the days when Gower, Bumble and Botham were getting older. The taller bowlers will get more bounce, they should just declare now so we can go and play golf, they should have more slip fielders etc etc. it was really bad towards the end

Never really liked Trueman - he turned into a parody of curmudgeonly disrespect for the “modern” game whilst “golden-ageing” his own era. To have been so critical of “the state of the game” that included the great West Indies teams, Imran Khan, Richard Hadlee, Allan Border, etc was annoying at the time and seems completely bewildering now. Boycott, whilst often critical, still seemed to find plenty to admire and enjoy about the modern game.
@vantheman12385 ай бұрын
He wasn’t always like that you’re simply copying what the many say who listened to Fred at the end of his broadcasting career in the 1980’s. In the 70’s Fred was interesting to listen too and funny.
@brucebush57445 ай бұрын
@@vantheman1238 fair enough - maybe I didn’t listen to him at his best. But I’m not copying other people’s opinions of his late 70s and 80s performances, I’m giving my own view based on many hours of listening to him going on about “there’s been no great players since Sobers” and similar.

I grew around a lot of people like Fred and I think you have to remember he wasn't always being serious. Also, although there were some great players in the '70s and '80s, there were plenty of ordinary ones too and ripe for criticism.

Jeffery Boycott, I am from India and grew up listening to him on TV. Straight forward , witty and he has the X factor. Broadcasters needs to employ experienced ( yes, age wise) cricketers from English speaking countries. They add a LOT of charm to the game.

Kimber you’re on a British radio show accept Sir Geoffrey Boycott. By the way Kimber you’re becoming rather irritating. Stop trying to be too clever! Many of us are “casual fans”, and have a professional cricket background so we know what we’re talking about. Boycs is a legend.
