I did not have a good experience with Moyer in Carmel IN. I went in there to look at the new Omega AT and while I was wondering the salesperson very loudly told his co-worker I was going to steal something in the store. I couldn’t believe it. I thanked them for their time and walked out. I immediately went and bought a Tudor at another location. So much for their $6600 watch I was going to buy.

My wife came up with a good idea this morning when I was boring her with watch talk and telling her about the continuum from sports watches to dress watches. She said it was a bit like the Spice Girls - there's a sporty one and a posh one. She said I should get a baby watch, a ginger watch and a scary watch as well. That would make a great video for you and Long Island Mark to discuss.

I feel (and I am biased as an explorer owner) that giving up the Explorer would be an error. So many TGV videos feature it that I imagine has developed its own value that is unique and immutable. It feels intrinsically linked with the success of the channel and collaborations. I feel your subconscious is sounding the alarm. The Explorer needs to be an ‘and’ watch and not an ‘or’ part of the collection. All the best, Pete

I had to sell my Rolexes to help pay for my wife's chemotherapy and surgeries. I sold them right before the crash. The only thing I kept was the Zenith CMS. I sold all my vintage Colt revolvers also except for one four digit Gen1 that's still in the box. It's reserved for if things get ultimately worse.

That Navi is a pilots dream come true. Land, fuel up, go to the pilot’s lounge, drink some coffee and prep your next waypoint/landmark. Really important when you are just a Cessna driver with a Single Engine Land VFR (only….gotta check that Instrument Flight Rules box if you are certificated for IFR flight.) Land. All you need in flight is the clock part. You estimate your flight time , do ALL your winds aloft as well as ATIS per the automated service. Click your start pusher and take off. You get to your waypoint, note the difference between ETA & actual time in route. Use the bezel to make the correct course changes due to the difference between winds at the surface & winds aloft. The E6B (slide rule used to make flight adjustments ) is based on above info. Hope that helps. A good watch is super important for all flight applications. I think the 24 hour watch is even more superior to regular 12 hour dials . Great vid as always TGV! Thanks

5512 is an absolute must ,I’m afraid ,especially in this condition. You know how it goes - sometimes you just have to do what you have to do besides, those 3 you’ve mentioned should be just enough to get you over the line trading them for it ,so it makes perfect sense- remember as you get older quality becomes much more essential than the quantity and in fact the latter becomes a horrible burden with age . Keep up your great work and if one day you decide to visit Africa ,Cape Town is the place to visit and enjoy for a fine young gentleman like yourself ,I promise 😊

It's a true delight to see TGV returning to talk about brands I love. While I completely understand his reasons for stepping away from the modern Swiss watch scene, his insights on timepieces are as valuable to me as Clarkson’s views on cars. Though his videos on the watch world’s equivalents of Koenigseggs, Paganis, and even Dacias have been excellent, I’ve been longing to hear his thoughts on the ‘Mercedes, BMWs, and Toyotas’ of the horological world. Here's hoping for more content on Rolex, Omega, Breitling, Seiko, and the like from TGV in the future!

Ah Astoria Park. A gem of a park in the northern tip of Queens. A lot of childhood memories from the 1970-80s. Enjoyed riding my 10-speed bike out to there from the more inner region of Queens. A bike was freedom to our generation. Loved the view along the river and under the bridges. Especially the iconic Hellgate. Funny, I never did venture to Randall's Island, sadly. I regret it now since I left NYC decades ago. NYC is huge, and so much of it I never visited as a born and raised native. :(

Glad to see your fickle nature has not changed flitting from loving one watch to the next! It makes for good viewing, although we all know how you fall in and out of love with watches in a very public way. I think the going price for a 5512 is quite a chunk of change! On the upside you will probably not have trouble getting your money out of it if you decide to flip it.... and it is a wonderful watch to have in the collection. I am placing my bet on you buying it. Maybe I can win enough to buy one too :)

I got the 5513 in ‘78 for £361. The 5512 was £430 at the time. After 6 months I took it back and said it kept very poor time. The Salesman said “well, you should have bought the 5512 sir”. I walked out very miffed. It’s time did improve a little after it’s first and only service, but would still loose 5 mins a week. Then in 2019 after it stopped completely I had it serviced at Rolex in Kent. It now keeps time to match the 5512. Its bezel is also now very ghost due to my dives in salt water.

Once it is time for glasses your entire world changes, and so does your watch box. I remember having to sell my GMT because the 24 hour ring was tiny on the dial and it became completely unreadable. These days it is 24 hour bezels and dials with very readable numbers. Purchases are based on physical limitations, and it is only downhill from here. Welcome to the club! 😂

So funny, Tristano: just last night, I bought a Seiko SARW025 (Laurel tribute) via the 'Bay, and looked up your old video reviewing it afterward. (I understood your take on it, but still wanted it anyway.) Looked at the intro to it, and thought "ah, what's past is prologue." Know the territory well, Brutalist buildings and all, and seriously glad you're back. (Oh, yeah…to paraphrase John Peterman on the need for glasses: "welcome to middle age - at least you made it this far.") Moving to the "new" Navitimer makes a lot of sense, as well as jettisoning the two-tone Sub: personally, two-tone watches do absolutely nothing for me, although your Cartier comes closest to my eyes. Seriously dig the NB digs as well! (As for your decision-making? As Frankie sang, It's Up To You.)

Great video Tristan. Both Navitimer's are iconic and look amazing and difficult to find. I've been trying to find one of these models in good condition for the past 4 years. Unfortunately they stopped producing them and the new designs look hideous. I wish Breitlings CEO, Mr. Kern would consider reintroducing them again. As for the Rolex Sub, you can give it another thought. The submariner and explorer designs and overall look haven't changed over the years.

I bought one as my first watch back in 1978 right after I turned 18. I had discovered Bond novels, I had just joined Army intelligence and many of the NCOs and officers I worked with were Viet Nam vets who wore Rolexes as a sort of a fraternal badge. It took me a year to pay it off. Some years after I got out I traded it for some guns. More reecently, I had gotten into watch collecting and, feeling nostalgic, I looked it up and was shocked at what some were asking for it. It made me sad that, though I owned almost 40 watches, none of them was the one that had been on my wrist through some of the best (and some of the most harrowing) experiences of my life. I wonder where it is now? I say GO FOR IT,

I have some experience with the reference 5512 and am having a difficult time believing that the case hasn’t been laser welded and refinished. I tend to think that Submariners of this vintage were generally worn and used as intended and this watch demonstrates some inconsistencies.
@jamez_estrada824 ай бұрын
Depends on how you define the Sub… Is it a NEED, or a WANT? If you answered with the latter, I’d resist the temptation and move on. There will ALWAYS be another out there somewhere - especially when you’re actually on the hunt for that model specifically.
