Chris, my son pointed me to your videos. They are just the visualizations that I need. Currently seeing the 3 proper hip movements and this underwater drill are where I’m focused in my swing improvements. Thank you.

I love this video! I started practicing this drill and could not believe how much distance I got with less effort. I also felt I had better control. Another issue I found was perception. After recording my swing, I saw that I was overswinging; I then shortened my swing and started making better shots. In my mind's eye, it seemed like a half swing, but on video looked more like a full swing. Thanks, Chris, for your videos.

The move is created by how you move the body, plus how the arms work and how they begin to move relative to the body, tough to explain using text but it’s a combination of many things

Cracking video. Can you comment on head height through the swing? I’m playing the best I ever have - partly from watching and understanding your content across a few platforms and partly from realising that my height was lifting in the backswing last year. I’ve really worked on head lowering in backswing and lowering even more in transition. Seems to me Tiger, Rory, Adam Scott all have this trait. Height down on backswing and down even more in transition. I think this water level example is similar, can you clarify head height through the swing?

Thanks Chris, excellent way to demonstrate your point with this video, and hopefully I can get my timing right 🤞 I use a Garmin G80 on range for measuring club head speed and smash factor / ball speed - Any idea what a correct performed underwater drill would add to my club head speed 🤔
@ChrisRyanGolf
@ChrisRyanGolf 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Rene, awesome that you have some tech to allow you to measure this, really useful. How much speed really just depends on where you are now and how well you are able to perform this, it’s may well be that you already have some of this is your swing, in which case gains may be small, really hard to say without knowing where you are presently

Chris - would you say that by posting up on left leg ie pushing the left hip back around impact can help promote this feel? Really like the demo!

Great video, very very good explanation of parametric hitting But I would like to see a slowmo of your swing to identify the different movements and in addition I would like a better explanation of how to get the hands lower Bending the upper body more to the ground, bend your knees ?
@ChrisRyanGolf
@ChrisRyanGolf 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Frank, yes the body ‘flexing’ in transition helps, along with the trail arm beginning to lengthen as you begin the downswing, those are the two key elements which can help achieve this lower handle position

Does this move work together with the lead wrist supination to square up the club face?
@ChrisRyanGolf
@ChrisRyanGolf 3 жыл бұрын
This move is more to put speed into the club, there are other movements that are generally more responsible for squaring the face, but this can help yes

The theory is sound, but the risk is ( for me at least) that introducing an element such as lowering your hands brings with it a process which could go horribly wrong. I've spent years telling myself not to "courtsey" when hitting the ball, obviously to avoid shovelling a piece of fairway or dropping my shoulders which could throw my weight onto the back foot. I'll try this on the range & hopefully not bend too many clubs in the process.

Could you do a video on the drive? When I hit my new Ping 425max with no force at all, just a tap it goes about 250 and strainght. So how do I get some power into the shots and make them go over 300? Everytime I try to hit it hard it doesn't end well. Thanks

In my opinion this swing thought will cause more problems than it will solve. Telling people to get they're hands low and then suddenly pull the handle up through the ball is not at all correct biomechanically and I think it will really complicate the game even more and confuse people. Amateurs have their hands high because their hips are too close to the ball - if they had their hands lower they would stick the club in the ground. You need to point out common swing flaws, explain why they happen, and then propose a solution rather than suggesting that people should do something as unreliable as this for the sake of "looking like the pros". There's a reason their hands are lower at impact and it's not so that they can all of the sudden pull the handle up by popping out of their posture. It's because they create more space from the ball. If you focused on portraying the golf swing as more of a simple motion that even non golfers can relate to, there would be less need to introduce more new swing thoughts like this.

You're not actually pulling it straight up in your video, you are pulling it up and to the left and then down to create the extra speed . Watch where the center of your butt is at the start of the video and where it's at the finish - 2:16. There is no way you can create extra speed by just pulling it straight up, there is no additional force to push the head forward. Misleading!

I find I'm simply too terrified of fatting it that I cant bring myself to move my body down or pull the club below "water", so I end up standing up thru impact.

Hey Andrew, yeah I think that is the thing that often holds many back, not so much the movement itself but the fear of it going wrong on thumping the ground early. Try starting fairly slow and building up from there
