Brother Keith, I think I heard you say in a different video your Bible training was not at a UMC Seminary. Neither was mine...and that is good. What we (probably) both learned at these other institutions, along with our own personal study, is the importance of the authority of Scripture. In this video you sort of point out a problem with the UMC that has been there since 1968 - there is no single unified doctrinal statement in the UMC and, therefore, no foundation in Scripture. As a result, the organization - the UMC - was built upon a foundation in conflict with itself. The UMC cannot and will not heal until it resolves this matter in favor of Scriptural authority. That's why, as a EUB/M/UMC PK, I walked away almost 30 years ago...and continue to pray for those being fed a diet of conflicted and contorted lies.

Thanks Brother, very clear presentation. I've watched a number of these stay or leave videos, but saw one today that was the first unequivocally (95% he said) stay whatever the BOD says. His take was there are 2 sides, 1.) The Compatibility side and the Non-Compatibility side. 2.) Within each are the Traditionalists and the Progressives . Then if Traditionalist, you have to decide if you can "accommodate" the overarching UMC position if it contradicts scripture as long as your local church doesn't ordain, etc. If you are Traditionalist and Non-Compatibility and Non-Accomodating, then you probably need to leave...and so on and so on... This church was Rocky Mount UMC in Rocky Mount, Virginia. You are on the side of God and The Bible and Salvation by Faith in Jesus Christ my Brother. What did Martin Luther say at his inquisition by the Pope where he was likely to be burned at the stake? Speaking of the Bible he said, "Upon this I stand, I can do no other". BTW, Lutherans have stumbled over the same rock that has now stumped the Methodists. We don't need denominations. We need believers. If one does not have the grace to believe, why pretend to be a Christian?

Good video . Your story about the DS who neither supported you or the Discipline rings so true and I’m certain has echoed in the lives of thousands of UMC clergy persons . DSs are not chosen ( by the bishop of course) to help the clergy in any way , but to grease the wheels for the bishop and the hierarchy . Any semblance of empathy or competence with their clergy under them is just by accident . It’s really hit or miss , a crap shoot if they do at all. 1) Your incident reminds me of a charge conference I had 30 years ago where the DS came in , to my surprise wanted me not to sit near him during the CC, and the CC went by unremarkably to his surprise. I found out afterwards that a lady who had been causing problems in the church ( and half the churches in town the previous 15 years) and whom I had not run off but made it clear to her she wasn’t going to cause problems in the church anymore , had told this DS a bunch of lies about me and the church before leaving in a huff. And this bureaucratic idiot believed her . After the CC of course he figured out I had been doing a great job and the people loved me ( and were glad to see her go) but I will never forget the feeling of thinking “ My Lord , I have an abject idiot for a DS and nobody above me REALLY supports me . All it takes is a lie from a crazy-maker to throw me to the wolves .” It was a real illusion-breaker for me. 2) The last District meeting I attended 15 years ago , the DS at the time thought he was doing us guys and gals a favor by telling us to “ watch what you tell me cuz I work for the bishop not you .” Just shows how clueless the average DS is -in “ doing us a favor” he revealed what most of us already knew -we were on our own with no real support. This “ we are all in this together “ thing was just a cruel facade . Unless we were part of the fair-haired “ chosen” of course -then we will get beaucoup of support , even if it’s undeserved.

Thanks for the affirmation, I do appreciate it. I felt convicted to share that story after watching a Methodist town hall in Georgia. The pastor called out the DS in front of the entire room and the DS realized nobody was buying his line.

been to methodist church and everything they supported for 20 years. Never once heard of a BOOK OF DISCIPLINE. This is the biggest bombshell shock I have had in... maybe years.

That is very telling in that the Methodist church kept you, and I assume others in the congregation, from knowing this vital and important piece of information. If for twenty years you did not know that your denomination held the idea of having to follow to another book than the Bible then this begs the question if you were aware of the other things Methodists are suppose to adhere to? The following is a cut and paste of just a sample of things you may not be aware of from a commentator below: "The unbiblical practice of infant baptism (regardless if a theologian made a case for it if it's not in the Bible it shouldn't be considered), the unbiblical practice of “confirmation” of young people who were “baptized” as babies, the false belief that it is not important for a person to know when they were born again or saved, the unnecessary creation of books no one in the Bible asked anyone to make like the Book of Discipline mentioned here and the Book of Resolutions that one must take a VOW to uphold, the many similarities of services and rituals that mirror the godless Catholic church, the many rules and financial problems that even Keith here complains about, the fact that the UMC sued Keith and others here to obtain the church building which is a complete violation of going to unbelievers to settle disputes (1 Corinth 6:1-9) and more." From this excerpt there is even another book called the BOOK OF RESOLUTIONS that I assume you did not know about either. From the comments of other people here and in other videos people are rising up against the UMC and rightly so. The problems they are having now is enough to leave but if this denomination has been involved in false doctrines and extra-biblical creations for YEARS then we can surmise that the problems arising today stem from their departure from true biblical doctrines and that one shouldn't just go along with this denomination but actively leave and repent from it.

If one finds that the BOD is so bad that it is akin to toilet paper as the pic to this video shows and Keith ripping pages out then it should stand to reason that those who created it (Methodist church/leaders) must be wrong. If one follows a denomination like Methodism (a man made religion) that has its own rules, regulations and distorted doctrines it should not shock anyone to see things "muddled." Not only should people put down the Book of Discipline but walk away from this confusing and contradicting church.
