Amen. As a follower of Christ , understanding the doctrine of hell causes me to be more fervent in prayer for the lost, more thankful for my salvation, more aware of God’s holiness , sovereignty and majesty. And the urgency in spreading the gospel. It causes me to fall upon my face repenting of my sins and asking for strength to resist it. I think we need regular preaching on the doctrine of hell for these and many other reasons.

A wrong understanding of biblical unity is huge,even in the church. I live in a small community that seeks to ackowledge Catholicism and even UMC as true Christians, encouraging "unity" without any confrontation .. no true understanding of what God's love is really means.

Thanks for the discussion. Our culture tries to focus on positive affirmation without consideration of negative consequences. GOD brought the Israelites out of Egypt to bring them into the Promise Land. GOD saves us for heaven but there is a negative consequence he is delivering us from.

Actually I was saved while being afraid of Hell and knowing that was my destiny if I wasn’t converted. (I was raised sitting under Al Martin’s preaching so Hell was regularly set before us).

Thank you for the discussion gentlemen. I can't even recall the last time I heard a service preached on this doctrine, so I concur with your opinion that it is not spoken of enough. I would imagine any believer that listens to this discussion will agree. The most important take away is: This needs to be preached for non believers to hear of course but equally important is to spur on believers to evangelize so their loved one's don't go there.

Thank you for this discussion. Better understanding the doctrine of hell is important, especially to culture and the gospel, because the things man searches for are found in God and God alone. In His completeness, we are fulfilled. I think contrasting the reality that abiding with the Father for eternity versus eternal separation is one of the staunchest arguments one can make in a cultural sense, being that people are searching for completeness, but what they find is always incomplete. Our society is hungry for what God has to offer but there’s so many options on the table that the first hungry feeling people get, they find the one nugget and chow down. In terms of the gospel, people are either trying to make up their own gospel or are being fed the fruits of the gospel and not God; in other words, there’s a lack of repentance because people don’t understand God’s law, grace, and justice and all they want is the fruit that comes after repentance and faith- the center of their gospel isn’t God, it’s the fruit. Pastors want to fill churches because it’s a “sign” that God is “moving.” But they don’t realize that believers aren’t being sanctified, they are being pacified. Part of gospel gives us a glimpse of judgement. It makes us aware of our sins, like the Apostle Paul speaks about, but also sheds light on salvation, by grace and truth, through faith. Society doesn’t like living with any consequences of actions, good or bad, so being able to communicate the consequences of sins is difficult. But having the foundation of Christ and the fullness of the gospel, God will be able to cultivate His culture more healthily through men like you who are yoked to Him. Stay in truth and continue the good work you are doing. It’s helping mold men like me into what God wants, more than what I want.

This was really good. I do think that expecting people 4-5 generations downstream from the time preachers spoke of hell regularly to comment on "why" it hasn't been preached is asking a bit much. Or at least, to answer that question from study of history more than 150 years ago then through the time of change is necessary. No generation now alive was brought up with preachers preaching about hell regularly. There is almost always someone somewhere who likes to preach on hell almost EXCLUSIVELY, but those are rare -- now, just as before. So glad this podcast explored this subject. Thank you guys!

I think that the reason for the difficulty with many Christians in speaking of the doctrine of Hell is the risk of not being able to explain it . If we say that hell is a place of eternal separation from god , that is more defensible but to try and explain hell as an eternal fire that consumes for all of eternity is somewhat difficult to convey. If we are going to speak of various degrees of punishment in hell it’s hard to put into words what exactly that looks like seeing that an eternal flame 🔥 is what we visualize. So it’s not that we don’t believe it, it’s that we do not know how to articulate it when asked to describe it .

It seems to me as I grow older in the Lord that I also see less church discipline along with less preaching about the doctrine of hell. Makes me wonder if one leads to the other....

I beg to differ. When my husband was an unbeliever. He and a friend started reading the Book of Revelation. This was as an adult in his 30s. He said to his friend, "If this is true, I don't want to go there." A week later, he one Sunday morning, happened on to one of those TV preachers, and heard more of that. Which again brought him to his knees. The following Sunday, he went to the local Baptist church and has been going ever since, many many years ago. He has changed completely. It did scare the hell out of him. Trust me, he was as far from Christ as one could be. 😊

People also come to Christ because they are drug addicts and alcoholics. Does that mean those are good things?
@Realitytime2024
@Realitytime2024 2 ай бұрын
@user-fc2zb9po8t I'm not sure what you mean? I know people come to Christ while they are addicts. He changes their lives. All who come to Christ are sinners, then they are washed white as snow with the blood of Christ. We will sin until we die or raptured. God chips away at our sin each day, so to speak. Because of Jesus' sacrifice, God no longer sees our sin. It DOES NOT give us the right to keep sinning. We deal with it and move on.

@@Realitytime2024 The point is you are praising the fact your husband had the crap scared out of him because the end result was he came to Christ. So do you also praise the fact people become alcoholics and drug addicts because some of them do the same?? The doctrine of hell has been a huge deterrent for most people. Scaring people into a belief system is a terrible way to go about things. You shouldn’t be coming to Christ because he scares you. It’s a horrible way to think of God.

@user-fc2zb9po8t All I have to say is that God is sovereign. He draws people to Him, His way. So, during the tribulation, when God's wrath is upon the earth, no one can come to Christ because of fear? Our difference of opinion about this does matter. All I know is my husband came to Christ, period! Enjoy your day!

The words “Death” and “Hell” are synonymous, and both will be cast into the lake of fire which is the second death. “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.” Revelation 20:14

If any one tells you hell is real, run away from them, they neither know God nor the Scriptures. My hope is that they simply do not know the Scriptures, my fear is that they know the Scriptures and continue to teach the doctrine of hell to keep the pews full. They are just blessed that God's grace is infinite.

@@Peter_McKenna587 No need, Christianity is just fine, the trouble is the people teaching it do not know the book as well as they think they do and their attitude is "my way or hell". The doctrine of hell is sadly made up to keep people in the seats paying their tithes. I am not genius I just started to question everything these Reformed guys say. Look it up in the bible and realized they are sadly mistaken.

Minute 26:00 Friends! Bothers and Sisters in Christ he is speaking heresy! God will not punish someone with eternal hell because they were born in the wrong geographical location, does that even sound sane? God is just and loving, please stop listening to these people and pick up your bible and read! The Holy Spirit will guide you on what you need to know, just read, read as if you life depended on it.
