I was think more the throws they do, like it will be able to tell if it is hasn't had a force impacted on the ball, like open palm handballs it wouldn't be able to tell, but throws definitely.

The technology has been around for years and the epl and other leagues have implemented it, all you have to do is watch the recent world cup to see how good the technology is. Yet the AFL has refused to implement until now.

Im all for it, and if it works we should trust it. But the issue with the Adelaide sitcho was that the goal umpire didnt refer to upstairs.... and if he did, they wouldve cleared the goal. THAT needs to change first before anything.

Save money and controversy and change the scoring rules. Ball hits goal post and goes between goal posts,GOAL. Ball hits post and travels through point post, POINT. Ball hits any post and bounces back into the field of play, PLAY ON. Simple really.

Sounds like it's just precision gps like that of a drone, the technology already exists they're likely just fine tuning it to work on something that's constantly belted and spun in all conditions

The Keys issue should never got to where it is at the moment. The umpire should just called for a review. It was not a technology issue but more a procedural issue.

The Swans v Crows. Maybe the Swans would have got a goal in the last minute if the goal had been paid to the Crows. And the Crows missed many easy shots in the last quarter - sue them for compensation.

Sydney scored a single point for the whole quarter to Adelaide's 37 (counting the final 'goal'). Sydney were very, very unlikely to score again, they were cooked, just like they were in the 4th quarter against Melbourne on the weekend. It's much more likely Adelaide would have had another chance at scoring, which they were denied when Sydney took the quick kick in after the point was awarded. As to the missed shots, yeah it wasn't great, but it wasn't as bad as people make it out. If you include the Keays goal, they kicked 5 goals, 3 behinds and 4 rushed behinds. Granted one of the rushed behinds came from a terrible set shot from McAdam, but turns out he had just had his cheekbone smashed in, so it's understandable. If he'd come off the ground like he should have, Tex would have taken the kick and who knows what might have happened.

The AFL won't introduce this technology because they want to get it right... That's a change of course, usually they never wait to get something right before introducing it, like many of the new rules which the AFL seems to fail to conceive the possible consequences those new rules bring to the game.

TOO JOLLY LATE!!! The worst possible catastrophe, short of the same thing happening in the GF, has already happened! (And I seriously hope what happened to the Crows *DOES* repeat in the GF: it will teach the AFL a lesson to have an entire premiership rendered hollow, just because they never implemented the best review system without the new-tech balls. They could have had a system in place like the NHL where a ‘bunker’ panel can contact the central ump, even after play has resumed, and say to hold up play while they review it more closely due to the critical nature of the call, ie changing the lead late in the last quarter. Then after the review, reset the clock to 71 seconds and resume play with the correct call made.)

Can we allow the captains of each team to call for a video analysis of a goal decision? Just like in the Cricket, each team gets a minimum 2 calls for 'howlers' made by an umpire. If the Captain calls for a review and is proven wrong, then the opposite team gets a free kick from the middle of the ground in order to stop time-wasting decisions or nonsense reviews.

A great inclusion but having the graphic on the big screen instantaneously is a BIG no no. Hearing the roar of the crowd when the umpire signals a goal is one of the best parts of the game. Taking that away and having the fans watch the big screen instead of the on field game is a HUGE mistake.

The AFL wouldn't pay a cent, because there is no guarantee that there wouldn't be another score in that game...The best compensation the Crows can get is a better draw next year.

That is assuming also that the same outcome would have happened. The Crows would be defending the lead instead of chasing the lead. There is no guarantee that Sydney would have scored in that last 70 seconds of the game, either. That is why the AFL really stuffed up this one, and nothing in any decent compensation could be given back. No matter what the compensation, the Crows still lose out on this.

Soccer, rugby, gridiron, hockey etc all sports where if you hit the post/crossbar/upright and the ball still passes through it counts as a goal. They don’t worry about whether the ball shaved or missed the post. And rarely any controversy like we have to deal with. All this tech for a pretty simple solution

Might want to check the ladder Eddie... Crows would have missed finals either way. Swans would still have been 2 points ahead of them. It sucked what happened and it needs to be fixed going forward, but the Bulldogs were the only team disadvantaged by this in the end. They slipped down the draft order by finishing higher. Everyone else gets better picks than they would have otherwise - including Adelaide.

Damien was correct that if an adjudication was made on that call and no more scoring in the game then Adelaide would have won. The ball would have been back at the centre bounce (not at the Adelaide forward area) if the goal was allowed and with a minute or so left, and as history has repeatedly shown us, there was plenty of time for another goal to be scored. Yes Adelaide would have been in front if it was correctly called a goal but with that much time left Sydney could have potentially scored another goal. The dynamics of the game would have been different.

Sounds ludicrous, but it's accepted in Australian football 😳 Change the rule to be in line with every other game.
