I like The Vampire Diaries, but it's the kind of show that attracts a non-thinking audience that gives a thumbs up to a character who acts like a complete piece of shit if he is very handsome guy and portrayed with minimal moral ambiguity. I don’t think it’s hypocritical to save people, either by offing vampires or using their blood. Essentially all vampires we’ve seen have k*ll*d an innocent person. Many offed countless more. You’re right that it is human for Bonnie to care, but it is not a “flaw” or sign of immorality. Well I will say that no one behaves in a purely evil way 100% of the time, no matter what. It’s physically impossible and never happens lol. But you can still dislike a person if they do extremely horrible things even 1% of the time or less. And doing something nice for someone (he abused) doesn’t absolve Damon of anything. I get saying Bonnie is a bit hypocritical regarding wanting blood from Damon if she cares about the person in danger. But she isn’t telling him to do something evil to help her friend. Every other character would also offer their blood if they knew it would help. Damon doesn’t need to be rewarded for offering to save someone; it’s just he set our expectations in the gutter from day one hehe.

Damon's character is the best part of this show and pretty much the only reason I watched it (and not because hes "funny handsome Damon") but because his character is extremely complex... bros a murderous vampire wiht like 150 years of trauma from Katherine under his belt, of course,e hes going to be sensitive about his feelings (which are heightened... from being a vampire...) I totally get him making you angry he does so many messed up things and is self-destructive (hmmmm kinda like thats the point..) but his charater is literally gold in this show

It always hurts seeing Katherine rip Damon apart he had come so far since the beginning of the season and i feel his curse is his Vampirism heightening his impulsiveness and insecurities were hes always worried of being let down so he tries so hard to push everyone away so he doesnt have to be hurt because deep down the thing he wants more than anything is to be loved and loved. He got really lucky with Jeremy having the ring on. After a 145 years of trying to save Katherine from the tomb and this is his thanks i would never want to care about anyone again either. Damon❤

Yeah people do kindof of forget and minimize some actions; there are some who just completely pretend his actions this episode never happened or don't talk about it... And to your comment, there are some who only remember or point out what he did to Jeremy and usually the way out of condemnation for the character is the fact that Jeremy didn't die; but like you said, he did something else in that last scene: he forced himself onto Elena... he assaulted her, a person he claims to love, and his brother's girlfriend (but I guess that last thing about not respecting his brother's relationship really shouldn't be a surprise)

Sorry but your stance on Bonnie is extremely weird to try and claim she's being inconsistent or can't have a dislike toward Damon but want the "benefits" as if Damon isn't killing people with no remorse every other episode those ppl including people that those closest to him really care for. Such as Lexi, literally this episode JEREMY. Damon's actions are what is INCONSISTENT!!!! Bonnie has every right to be hesitant around him and hesitate to trust him. People apply human morals to this show often which makes sense. But for Damon a 148 year old vampire who can shut his emotions off easily and doesn’t need to feel- if you were feeling pain and had that option would you not take it? He spent all that time only to be told it was all for nothing quite literally, his past rejected him and his hopeful “future” also said no. I get it.

Whether is rejection or punishment; Damon has got (and continues to) get off lightly when it comes to facing repercussions for his actions... A little bit of cold shoulder and rejection from other characters is the bare minimum expected... It's ok if you don't "hate" Damon or Stefan and you can get past their actions for the sake of entertainment, but to then point out in a negative light when other characters react RIGHTFULLY defensive against him it's quite a double standard... Damon can get away with murder but Bonnie gets the stink eye if she says Damon sucks?

Kinda sad they didn’t go through with it because I like that way more than Delena for a lot of reasons. One being Damon brought so much hurt and harm to elena and her friends. Killing Jeremy and the BS he pulled with Caroline. Threatening to kill both her and Bonnie more than one occasion. Now most would argue that these things effected Bonnie too negatively too and yes your correct but, There was more time for Bonnie to forgive those things realistically and see his growth and change in the later seasons. Elena forgives Damon way too quick imo, not only that but actually develops feelings and entertains being with him. When he’s still very much unstable. In case of Bonnie they feel more natural as a couple. She began to tolerate him because he was on good behavior, called him out on his bs and didn’t take it, respected him for his growing care for her friends and undying one for Elena, then became friends with through death then having to rely on each other. Damon and Bonnie would’ve been a hell of a lot better than Delena maybe not as much in chemistry but definitely in writing. And Ian and Kat did have some chemistry as enemies, friends, and maybe romance if they went that route. That whole purgatory arc they had great chemistry and worked well together as a team.
