Hi everyone, I’ve just got a few points that I’d thought I’d share with you regarding the new video format: 1. Although I did explain my reasons for now choosing to use a video camera instead of recording audio in my last video, I know a lot of you may have missed that so I’ll give you the rundown now. To cut a long story short, the old style of making videos was just getting extremely tiresome for me. Due to wanting to try and get the audio to come out as best I could, I always found myself spending hours recording and editing the voice track, and to be honest it’s so bloody boring. I don’t have great recording software, or a great laptop - so that’s partly to blame, but I just don’t want to spend 4 or 5 hours obsessing over the audio for a 10-minute video. This way of shooting is a lot easier and more enjoyable for me. 2. A lot of people last time around quite correctly suggested I need to invest in some lighting equipment if I am to carry on making videos in this manner, and whilst I simply don’t have the money to do this at the moment, I plan to do so eventually. For now however you’ll just have to put up with the crappy lighting. Sorry! 3. Lastly, looking back on this video there’s a few things that I need to iron out. I’ve noticed I have a tendency to turn away from the camera when I’ve finished the line I was saying, and I do this because my script is on my laptop and I’m trying to read what comes next. Obviously, as I’m now aware of this, this won’t happen next time! Also, I know my position is all over the place, but that’s because I had to stop-start with this video, as my bloody video camera ran out of battery half way through. I’m sure there’s other things you’ve picked up on as well, but just to let you know I am aware of these niggles and I will be working to solve these. I’m not used to filming on camera so it will get better over time. Anyway, thanks for watching as always!

Bernthal's performance as Shane remains to this day one of, if not THE greatest performance on The Walking Dead. He was able to communicate so much with facial expressions and made a greater impact on the characters around him in two seasons than most characters have been able to make in the past 4 years. He added an aura of tragedy and sympathy to a guy who, in less capable hands, could have come across as just another bad guy. He's still my favourite Walking Dead villain largely in part due to his relationship with Rick which has informed Rick's character in subtle ways for much of the last 6 seasons.

This is something about the Walking Dead that I'll always defend despite how far the show has fallen. We started the show with Rick's mindset of trying to do the right thing and looked at Shane as crazy, but as time went on, we evolved in our mindset and saw Shane as right the whole time.

Even if our mindset changed along with Rick, Shane was still crazy and a danger to the group. He wasn't "right the whole time" either, he was a straight up scumbag and a psychopath. I understand that he started out with the right mindset and adapted to the apoctalyptic world, but he still did alot of unnecessary things combined witha spiraling mental state that ultimately led to his death

Hahahahahahahahahahahahhahah I AM NOT ALONE AFTER ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have wondered all these years if it was just me or has anyone else seen this? And by God did this show fall (the Kingdom: stop). We had Shane, Darryl, the Cherokee Rose, Merle, Carl, Herschel, Glenn, Andrea, Carol, Sasha....and then suddenly we are in a junk heap with people who, for some reason, speak some strange variant of English that makes no sense given that they were still adults before the Apocalypse. It was a crime. Plus it has been the Governor season over and over and over ever since. These people took over that prison and now Carol is floating about being called My Queen by a fake King that grown men appear to actually believe in. Haldol anyone? Get some on the next run PLEASE!!!!!!

Shane was correct 95% of the time, but his methods were questionable, at best. He could've bided his time and been a bit more Machiavellian to achieve his goals. Instead, he kept running head-first into people he knew disagreed with him. For this reason, he was practically begging to be killed or exiled from the group.

Oh, trust me, I knew way back then. Good Lord did I loathe that dumb cow Lori and the wreckage she did just to keep herself entertained. I am a grown woman and I have a son. YOU DO NOT MAKE YOUR SON CLEAN UP AFTER YOU WHEN YOU ARE DONE CATTING AROUND! That is like a permanent having your own mother shove your face in sh** forever. But Rick has a thing for these Olive Oyl's, which makes Mischonne senseless since there is NO WAY she would be seconds to that blonde Olive Oyl he was all into in Alexandria. WHY ruin perfection?????? Kill Rick then. Leave us Shane, Darryl, Merle, Glen, Abraham, Andrea, Carol, Carl and Maggie (Herschel too) and that group alone could re-make the world. Morgan annoys me to no end. He is one of those actors who plays the exact same 'role' in everything he does.

Shane was probably the most developed and tragic character in the show's lifespan, even in his short time. I find him similar to Kenny in the walking dead telltale games, some of their actions seemed cruel and hot headed at first but in the end they ended up doing the right thing that keeps everyone safe, even if the people they live with hate them for it.

Shane is my favourite TWD character ever, and for good reason. I think this quote from Andrea explains him perfectly: "Calling off the search for Sophia, killing the walkers in the barn, killing Randall, they are all the right choices, it's just your performance that remains something to be seen". I can't remember the quote word to word, but it gets my point across. He knows how the new world spins, but his hot headedness gets the best of him. I do agree with Shane regarding his thoughts on Rick, he couldn't make the hard decisions and wouldn't even let anyone else make them for him. Shane could've killed Randall in the barn and it would be no skin off his nose, and then that is a problem solved, and Lori and Carl are safe. Lastly, shooting Otis is very misunderstood by fans. Shane literally says why he did it to Rick - "it was either him or me, we both weren't gonna make it" - and he is completely right. Shane's way was the best way in my opinion. The other outcome is that him, Otis and Carl all die. And if this had happened, the group wouldn't have a reason to stay at the farm and would be sent away even weaker (and that is not including how Rick, Lori and everyone else would react. Also, they'd never find Sophia and a lot of the group could die looking for her). Shane made a sacrifice for the group, and not just for himself
@BuddSidewinder
@BuddSidewinder 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! His actions with Otis are very misunderstood and villified by the fans. Yes, it's horrible to kill someone to save yourself and save another, but Shane knew it had to be done. There was no other way. Plus, Shane told Otis to go ahead of him, take the supplies. Shane was already willing to sacrifice himself. And he did end up sacrificing his peace of mind because killing Otis never left him. It baffles me that fans hate Shane for that, especially when Rick said he would've done the same thing and Rick has done far more now. Shane did what he needed to do survive and in doing so, he helped everyone else survive. It's too bad that the group couldn't see it back then. Shane is and always will be my favorite TWD character and the complexity of his choices and why he made them is one reason why he's the best!

@@BuddSidewinder / Shane didn't even really want to kill Rick! He had the jump on Rick the moment they were alone in that open field. Heck, while they were still in the woods! He was walking BEHIND Rick the entire time! He had plenty of chances to just simply shoot Rick in the back! He even gave Rick time to turn around and face him. He told Rick to take out his gun to make it fair. (Who does that if they simply want you dead?) Shane even put his gun away and offered to let Rick kill HIM if he felt he was such a big problem! He even let Rick get close enough to him to stab him when he could have EASILY shot Rick! Shane was giving Rick an opportunity to make a case on why Shane shouldn't kill him. Once he heard what Rick had to say, Shane changed his mind about killing him, which is why Rick was able to get close enough to stab him. Shane was OK with the idea of the two of them returning to the farm as friends as Rick falsely suggested. Shane loved Rick to the very end.
@BuddSidewinder
@BuddSidewinder 5 жыл бұрын
C J I totally agree with everything you’re saying. It’s why although I think Shane was wrong to lead Rick out to kill him, I don’t believe he truly wanted to kill Rick ever. All your examples show that Shane didn’t want to kill Rick. In fact, I think it’s possible that Shane wanted Rick to kill him. I know not all fans believe the suicide-by-cop theory, but as you pointed out, if Shane truly wanted to kill Rick, he had ample opportunities to do so. I agree that Shane truly loved Rick and by forcing Rick to step up, defend himself, and kill him, he gave Rick the best fifty. He forced Rick to toughen up so that he would be ready for future enemies.

I keep saying that if/when Rick dies in S9, I would love for Jon Bernthal to appear as Shane in a hallucination, similar to how characters appeared to Tyreese in that character's final episode. While there are certainly other choices, like Carl, Lori, or maybe even Glenn or Hershel, I have always felt that Rick never let go of Shane and what that character meant to him. He was so much more than the guy who banged his wife. He was the guy who enforced the philosophy that Rick more or less lives by these past 6 seasons. More than anyone, I have always felt it was Shane who's teachings Rick has carried on. And while Rick would never likely accept it, he's come to terms with the fact that Shane WAS right.

It would be so cool Shane stood over Rick like "you couldn't keep them safe" (his family) or "the right choice is the one that keeps us alive, and you couldn't" those lines would be amazing in a hallucination, or even Shane saying how Rick is like him and then Rick before he finally dies saying "we are worse than we were" something Morgan said to him in season 8. Personally I think that would be cool asf.

I completely agree. I also think Rick, in time, forgave Shane for the affair he had with Lori, he even understands why it happened. This was evident to me when he revealed to Michonne the true parentage f Judith. Rick was definitely influenced by Shane more than any character. I believe Rick still loves his best friend and is saddened that he had to kill him.

But I do believe his story was told very well and ended in a good place, a tragic place but for the story’s sake a good place. Edit: I also find it really amazing that you happen to make this while I’m rewatching the earlier seasons in preparation for ricks story concluding and when I stop watching the show lol. It was Lori. She kept messing with his head. Why break off his friendship Carl? They were buddies before the zombies. She literally took everything he had left to live for from him with no remorse, she did it angrily, and all in one blow. Then when he respected her wishes and stays away from her and Carl, she once again attacks him for doing as she ordered? Of course he went mental. With Lori's head games, anyone would. She was the real villain of season 2. Not the walkers and not Shane, but Lori.

So here is the problem I have with this conversation: Everyone says, “Shane was just ahead of his time - Rick became Shane eventually” no he didn’t. Rick never became like Shane. Rick has a protective respect for women, children, the weak, individual values, and human life that Shane never had. People say, “Well Rick killed people, too!”. Yes. British soldiers in WWII killed people. So do serial killers. We don’t say British soldiers are the same as serial killers because their REASONS and STANDARDS are so different. Rick struggled, grew up, and adapted, but here is a list of things we never saw Rick even consider doing: -Killing a selfless ally for personal gain (Otis) -Killing a man for his wife (No, Jessy doesn’t count. Her abusive husband attacked Rick - not even close to being the same) -Disrespecting a host and taking over their settlement like a bully -Sexually assaulting a woman I LOVE the Shane character - he is well written and complex and emotion filled. But he and Rick are and always will be very different.

Thank you for this! I love this series because it does what these early characters were meant for. I really don’t think Shane is a bad guy nor do I think he can fit in the category of “villain” From the moment we met him he was a decent man. He was put in a position and had to leave Rick behind. He already had that guilt to live with and now he had Lori and Carl to look after and a whole group as the new leader. He was doing a pretty decent job of it and the moves he made kept them together and alive. He made the tough calls when other people were still in the mindset of a pre apocalyptic world. Shane was simply a character too advanced for his time because if he had stayed alive up until season 8, he would have fit right in with the group who now kill without blinking an eye. From looking at his POV, Shane saw Rick making calls that put them in danger and no matter how hard Shane fought, they would side with Rick. He was pushed as an outcast for calls that made sense if you were being rational. From killing the Walkers in the barn, to killing Randell, to giving up the search for Sophie. All of those choices were the right call. And with Lori, that wasn’t easy for his head either. Lori would go back and forth with Shane. She told Rick she was afraid of Shane and basically kill him. Only to turn around an episode later to thank Shane and tell him he wasn’t the only one who felt something when they were together. Shane didn’t want to kill Rick. He deemed it necessary given the situation. Not just about Lori or Carl, but because sooner or later they would all be dead. Shane isn’t like Negan or the Governor who enjoyed torturing and murdering people. He was a man who became a product of the world around him and adapted quickly.

Thank you for this. I told my boyfriend for years that Shane was driven crazy. With Lori playing tug of war with his feelings, Rick coming out of no where and taking over, dumb decisions being made- bringing a stranger back to camp who was trying to kill them, ppl waltzing off for dumb reasons, and staying at a place where there are walkers in the barn. Of course Shane went crazy. I've wondered if I was part of the group at that time I would have considered leaving.

Let me say as a ShaneFan that I really appreciate your video. Many of the viewers have already voiced my thoughts in the comments below. Jon Bernthal did a fabulous job portraying Shane. It was his performance that really pulled me in. I felt Shane's frustration at Rick for not understanding what they were dealing with, his drive to protect those he loved at any cost, and how alone he was in the decisions he made. Shane went through a lot and saw a lot when the ZA first began so he was hardened from everything. He made tough calls that no one had to make such as leaving Rick in the hospital, but still protecting him by putting the gurney in place, shooting Otis to ensure he and Carl lived....these are decisions that no one in the group had to make and live with. Shane did. Add to Rick coming back and taking over the group, while making decisions that put the group danger, and Lori's push-and-pull behavior....ir'a understandable why Shane went spiraling downward. Shane is a wonderful and complex character. Sometimes he did the wrong thing for the right reasons, and the right thing for the wrong reasons, but overall, he was a good man who was ahead of his time, surrounded by naive people who questioned him, badgered him, and villified him at every turn.

What would Shane say to Rick in a hallucination as ppl suspect he will? "I was right. You're a loser who got Lori & Carl killed! And you won't be there to keep my daughter safe. BTW I despise the name Judith!"

One- I like your new format it's more personal. Two- great take on Shane I appreciate your comments and thoughts. I wonder if Rick would act more like Shane if he was in the thick of it from the beginning. They had a slow progression from "Rick"into "Shane" and realizing Shane was in the right but at the wrong time. Off topic idea: wouldn't it be great if they tied the tapes from owl to the tapes from Deanna ? Just a wild idea. Anyway thanks for the great vid as always

Firstly, thanks for the feedback. Secondly, you make a really good point about Rick not being in the thick of it straight away. I mean whilst Rick was asleep who knows what Shane witnessed, and how many people he saw die in front of him. Rick however was very much still in pre-apocalypse mode when he woke up, trying to respect people and play Mr Nice guy, whereas Shane just did what he had to do to survive. It's something I hadn't thought about until now and I wish I put it in the video! & it would be pretty cool if Deanna and Al were somehow linked by their recordings!

Thanks for your efforts in making your videos. This one is great as always. I like the new format and glad it is easier, less time consuming for you this way. Just a couple of requests if you don’t mind: 1. Could you make the TV screen slightly larger and brighter? This is because I normally watch this on my phone and can’t see the actors on the screen that well. 2. I like that you change your mind and change the way you feel about certain characters the more you get to know them. Shows you have an open mind and capable of acknowledging when you’re wrong. That’s a great quality to have. I’m sure your family and friends love you for it. That said, could you someday do a “defence of Enid” video if you decided to like her? Haha

I miss Shane as a character. And I would have loved to see how he would have handled things now particularly with Negan and the saviors. When I first watched this show like you I was team Rick but looking back Shane made more sense on things. However, I think my biggest complaint with Shane is that he did try to force himself on Lori at the CDC something I think some people forget. Lori is by no means my fave character but still that's a big no no for me. I think we as viewers were meant to half sympathize with Shane but also not like him, which made him a great character.

I want to commend the audio quality, for the format. Far too often, videos of a similar nature from an up and coming channel sounds like someone trying to speak through a phone's microphone with a bad connection. As well, I completely get the need to want to reduce the amount of time spent on editing. Last month, I'd spent hours editing one video for a university course and audio synchronizing/consistency is an art. I'd say this format works. And, holy hell. The one thing to really, really humanize Shane is the one thing we did not see a lot of. Maybe the worst crime AMC/the writers committed was not showing a reaction to Shane recovering from watching Rick get shot and then having to leave him behind. If they had done that, maybe significantly more fans would've stuck by him. Though, it would've defeated the purpose of making him commit objectionable acts because of that making him appear redeemable. A true tragedy when the actor is so, so talented that giving them more screen time could've made the lead less likable [early on]..
@HeyJoshyJosh
@HeyJoshyJosh 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! Luckily I already had a decent video camera stored in my home, otherwise I'd still be recording my voice through a microphone. I completely get what you're saying about audio editing, I think a lot of people who haven't tried doing in themselves don't realise how long it really takes, even to make a relatively short video. It would be interesting to see more of Shane during the period of time when Rick was in his coma. Admittedly, I don't really know how it would have it worked though, I suppose they could have had a flashback to Shane when the story was leading up to the moment Rick killed him - but maybe that would have taken something away from his actual death.

A lot of people try to make Shane out to be a villan. But it was actually Rick's foolish decisions and Lori's mixed messages that drove Shane over the edge. Shane really wasn't a bad guy at all. Everything thing he did-- every decision he made was for the safety of the group. It's just too bad he was so far ahead of the times for everyone to understand his actions.

I remember having these discussions about Shane at the time and being in the distinct minority. Yeah, he needed to back way off Lori once Rick came back, give her the space to make her own decision and then accept it, but everything else from killing the walkers to stopping Dale from hiding the guns from everyone to killing Randal... as the Joker said, "I'm not a monster. I'm just ahead of the curve."

I think the breaking point for Shane was seeing Rick return in the beginning of episode 3. That turned his world upside down. In that moment he lost Carl who he saw as a son and Lori who he saw as his partner. Both are what kept him going and sane after the world fell. At the point of Rick’s return it was like waking up from a dream. The comforts he had were instantly removed leaving him with the apocalyptic world that everyone else was struggling with. From the jump he would of been wrestling with his inner conflicts and confusion, but he was definitely planning Rick’s death from even before they left the Atlanta camp site, it was just unveiled slowly to the audience for drama.

Shane is the living embodiement of the phrase "being right does not excuse bad form," and in almost every conflict between Rick and Shane's leadership choices, they both make extremely valid points that needed to be weighed in order to arrive at more wise decisions that were both pragmatic and ethically decent and honorable. I'm not apologizimg for his sexual assault, his calloused behavior toward Sophia, his murder of Ottis, his threatening of Dale and attempted murder of Rick. His issues compelled him into making genuinely immoral decisions, but he waa also a victim of circumstance. Rick was presumptively negligent of his friend's issues and I think was subconsciously jealous and tried to assert his dominance in ownership of his family by constantly shutting down Shane's input (his family is his right, but again, ends don't justify the means), and Lori straight up emotionally abused him once Rick returned, undeservedly treated him like crap, isolated him from the people he cared about, and then exacerbated the conflict between Shane and Rick for her own selfish convenience, especially when, although rightly pointing out that he was becoming a problem (in no small part due to her poor handling of providing mature and appropriate closure to their relationship), egged Rick on into believing that he needed to kill his best friend. Had Lori in particular handled her own issues better, shown a little more compassion and gratitude towards Shane and actually tried to have the needed conversation between herself, Rick and Shane in order to provide closure and set boundaries without completely alienating Shane from the family, things probably would not have gone down the way they did resulting in his death. I don't blame Rick for killing him either. At the end of the day, he made bad choices and is ultimately responsible, but Lori's neuroticism was the biggest factor that played into his psychological deterioration.

At the point when Shane decided to try and kill Rick, I don’t think it could’ve gone any other way. Looking at the survival of the group from a practical point of view, and looking at Shane’s mental state, it was the only way things could have gone. Shane wasn’t bad. He was just ahead of the curve. He knew what he had to do for the group to survive their new, brutal world. To quote Han and Qi’ra from Solo: A Star Wars Story Han/Rick: You don’t know everything. Qi’ra/Shane: I don’t know everything. Just a bit more than you.

Rick is a bit of Shane's undoing. Yes Shane is a bit ahead of the rest with his world view, and that might lead to a warlord Shane, but his group would probably shape up a bit sooner than RIck's albeit maybe a dark and evil group. I don't think I like Shane because I can see his demons, but I see that Rick also brings some ruin in his path. What I would have liked to see is Shane leave, like he planned and we meet up with him months to years later, and let the two leaders square off with their respective groups.

Excellent video. I agree with all of your commentary, except I can't dismiss how Shane killed Otis. I get the why, because somebody had to make back to save Carl, and he thought Otis was the weakest link, but he wasn't "Shane's ankle was hurt he was the weakest. If he wanted to sacrifice Otis , oh well, but how he did it was extremely cruel. He could've shot him in the head , and the zombies would've eaten him, because he was still fresh, but he shot him the leg allowing a good man to experience beyond extreme suffering , that turned Shane into a monster in my eyes , no redeeming the character after that .... The walkers in the barn, I was 100% on Shane's side , yes Hershel needed knock in the head "their dead", and most importantly they were leaving the farm daily looking for Sophia putting themselves in/at unnecessary risks, "Daryl" almost died"... That needed to come to an end sooner than later. . I rewatched season 1 & 2, several times , and I understood Shane, and totally empathized & sympathized with his character. but it made me hate Lori more than I already did,
@HeyJoshyJosh
@HeyJoshyJosh 6 жыл бұрын
Fair point regarding Ottis, I can't really argue that shooting Ottis in ankle and leaving him to be eaten alive was a more humane thing to do than simply shooting him in the head. I think i also ended up disliking Lori more second time around, they didn't do her character justice at all (not that the comic version was great either)
@BuddSidewinder
@BuddSidewinder 6 жыл бұрын
He shot Otis in the leg and not the head because shooting him in the head would've killed Otis instantly and the walkers do not eat dead flesh -- they eat the living. Shane had to do what he did, as horrible as it was, so that the walkers wold be distracted by live bait. Also, Shane told Otis to go on ahead. He gave Otis an out, told Otis to take the supplies with him and bring it to Carl. He said they both weren't going to make it. Otis was a good man and didn't want to leave Shane. So...in my eyes, Shane wasn't wrong or evil for what he did. He did what he needed to do to survive and ensure Carl's survival. He was willing to sacrifice himself first, but Otis didn't take it, so Shane was left with no choice.......
@moge820
@moge820 6 жыл бұрын
Maybe he shot Otis in the leg because it was easier, I have no doubt if Shane had the thinking time to come up with the idea to end all of the suffering instantly he would've, but when running from a horde of Walkers and knowing that if you slow down you and a kid you love dearly would die, you do whatever you can to save him, and that includes killing a man. and shooting his leg is an easier shot anyways.

Everyone needs help sometimes. So selfish people arent worth having around, especially in a crisis. Believe me, I have seen the worst of people, as my wife and I took in 4 families during hurricane Katrina and quickly found out that you really dont know anyone, until your in a crisis. People I never thought much of really stepped up and shined, (One of my friends actually had the idea of taking some of our extra supplies and climbing through the rubble and flooded streets, to bring stuff to trapped people, mainly elderly. He was NOT the kind of guy who I would ever have thought would be such a good person and wanting to help others) while someone I trusted was actually stealing, and didnt lift a finger except for his own benefit or that of his wife and kid. And I am telling you, selfish people have no excuse, and are dangerous to keep around in a crisis. And the main lesson I learned, is that if you really want to know a persons character, get in a life or death crisis with them LOL. No, I dont recommed you seek one out, but it is true....You will know who people really are in those situations.

Shane was a great character and was more of a red herring than a true villain. Plot wise he was given a raw deal and I can’t say I blame him for being belligerent as things became more and more desperate.His ability to keep people safe was waning due to being usurped as the groups leader. I don’t think that he wanted to kill Rick any more than he wanted to kill Otis ,rather saw it as a last resort, that he had to do this or Ricks upstart leadership (at the time) would get the group killed. If you think about it Shane had Rick dead to rights on at least two occasions : once in the forest after the walker attack on the Atlanta camp and a second time during the fight in 18 miles out( which rick started) after toppling the motorcycle on the Ricks leg to pin him so he (Shane) could shoot Randell(who had already attempted to kill members of the group) instead of Rick. I could ramble on but basically Shane didn’t strike me as an innately evil person at his core (the kind dale would have you believe) he was just a guy trying to do good that continually got dealt a bad hand in an ever sinking situation.

I have watched every episode & come to the conclusion that Shane seeing the military come threw the hospital & shooting the civilians not to mention he witnessed them napalming the streets of Atalanta were people were told to go. Shane realized people were the threat then walkers in that order, Rick was in a coma and had no clue have cruel the world had gotten. Shane could of killed Rick multiple times yet choose not too, instead even in the field put his gun away daring Rick to shoot him. I don't see it the way you do Shane killed Randal made it look like he escaped. Rick figured it out and Shane was pushed to pull his gun out & told Rick to draw his weapon he didn't even just shoot him. Clearly he had no intention to kill Rick or he would of just shot him in the back!

With all the multiple rewrites the show has taken liberties with, Shane was the one I really hoped for. His role in the comics was short and I wanted more on the show especially seeing how well Jon Bernthal played him. Ultimately it was Lori who caused so much drama within the group. She told Rick evil things about Shane then turned around and kept leading Shane on behind Rick's back. I absolutely hated her character in the comics but more so on the show. Of course Shane did cross a line at the cdc and there's really no defense of that. But he was a broken man. He lost his best friend then fell in love with Rick's family only to realize he left Rick in a hospital bed still alive all by himself. I think part of Shane hated himself for that. He took solace in caring for Rick's family and truly loved them. It would've been amazing if Shane had left when he talked about it with Andrea. He could've went his separate way until after Lori's death. He then could've reunited with the group afterwards at a point when Rick had finally come to terms with Shane being right. In that world, sometimes you have to do horrible things to protect your family.
