Judy you are the best. Every time I hear of some commentator trashing actors, it makes me extremely sad. They are making that judgment without really any knowledge of how the industry works or how hard it is to be an actor and survive that difficult world. But, you have educated me, taught me so much about the film industry that yes Judy - I now read the credits and notice the AD's and the Key Grip and so many people who make a film happen. I even know what those roles are thanks to you. I now understand that even a badly made film deserves respect because I know those people put their heart and soul into it and it just didn't work out for them. It happens. So thank you for giving me a great perspective and making me appreciate all those people in front of - and behind the camera. Now, I do have one request. Can you possible get a writer (would really love that) or a lighting tech or key grip or makeup or just any of the many people that worked so hard on that show for an interview? I would love to hear their stories as well. Thanks!

So many wonderful episodes. I just watched the one when Grandma came home after her stroke. I wondered how Will Geer felt knowing he was the one who found her in her home after her stroke, saving her life. Then he yells, “whoopie! You’ve come home!” It must have had double meaning. What great people Will Geer and Ellen Corby were.

@charlessmith53219 ай бұрын
You are correct, the first 5 seasons when the family lived together and especially when the kids were small was the absolute best of the Waltons. John Boy leaving was the beginning of the changing of the family dynamics and the special family feeling of the show. However the show was so well written that the storylines carried on a different almost equal feeling of the show. The grandma storyline was heart warming. The losing of grandpa was so sad but sweet at the same time. Watching the older kids venture out a bit was nice to see. For me when it started changing again was when the war entered into the story lines. It was still written well but the innocence and sweet feeling of the show was diminishing. Then when mama left the show I believe that was the beginning of the end. If I remember correctly John left to be with Olivia. Most of the family dynamics were gone. They brought in Rose to fill a gap and for what she was tasked with, she did a marvelous job. But it just wasn't the same. And then the second John Boy. You can't replace Richard Thomas. I don't fault the actor because he too did a wonderful job and I actually liked him but that was an impossible task to perform, becoming John Boy. I think the producers were grasping at straws. I watched the show until the end still enjoying the remaining family and community but the sweet feeling of the show when everyone was together was gone.

The Walton's reflected changes, growth and loss in a real word way, at least as real as Hollywood can! I would venture that Ellen Corby was the first actor to be accorded the opportunity to return inspite of the after effects of the stroke. What a courageous decision by the studio and producers to allow her to return. People with disabilities must have felt honored to be recognized through the character of Grandma.
@judynorton25989 ай бұрын
Very true. I do know an actor in Andy Griffith also suffered a stroke, but his was not as debilitating as Ellen’s. I thought it was so wonderful they had her back.

Though I have always loved the Waltons, grandma was always one of my favorite characters. When she had her stroke honestly The Waltons just bumped up a couple more notches in the fact that like you said her character was not written out of the show. She was a wonderful actress and I'm so glad that what she went through in her personal life though extremely difficult and I'm sure sad in a lot of ways was interwoven into the storyline when she came back it was a blessing to see her again. Felt like she was my grandmother.

Loved the recap of shows. As in life, children grow up and move on, but memories remain, thank goodness. Erin seemed to have a lot of boyfriends. But she had the worse luck with them. She experienced so much, I’m surprised she did get married in one of the Walton’s Reunion movies, but, even that didn’t last. I so wanted her together with Ashley, but it wouldn’t have worked since they would have had to get a replacement. Those two just clicked! Such a great synopsis of the first five seasons. I was the first to leave home in my family. I have heard how my leaving changed the family dynamics not for the bad but just in a different way. My folks are long gone now but my two siblings and I are just fine and have good relationships with each other even when we disagree. That is the way family life evolves and Earl Hamner was spot on with what he did. I guess that is why The Walton’s will most likely outlive us all. It was that good. I speak as an 80 year old.

Happy New Year! And yes seasons 1-5 were the best. I watch them all. But Richard Thomas added such a huge dynamic of chemistry btwn all of you. I believe even if you would've left after 5 the series would have lost a lot of it's impact. Thank you, Judy. Looking forward to more of your segments.

Love this vlog. Martha ( I can’t spell her last name lol) she reminded me of my own grandmother. The way she dressed and her demeanor was spot on. My grandmother never cut her hair and she kept it in a bun. I really enjoyed the episodes with Harley And Verdi great actors.

Happy New Year. I agree, I tend to watch the first 5 series as I like to see everyone together especially the grandparents. I just don't connect with the later episodes sadly.

'The Conflict' episode has to be one of my favorites. To see the family that had been there for generations forced off their land was heart breaking. I think that show did a great job of teaching about what happened to those families who lost their homes. It was heart breaking to see Martha Corrine have to move from the house she built with her husband and had lived her whole adult life in that home. During 'The Firestorm' I always cry when Mrs. Brimmer reads the line from the Bible in German. Watching this re cap of the years and what happened is like re living family memories. I know it is a TV show, but it was so well done, it was so real also. Thanks for the video. Happy New Year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR JUDY. When I look back at the year and count my blessings I am joyful that though Nancy and I have our health problems, we are still alive and active and have a better than average chance of celebrating our real 50th wedding anniversary in July. We had a celebration of sorts in 2022 when there was some question as to whether I would make it this far. But as I look back on the year, the real highlight was getting to meet you and Mary Beth at the fair in Illinois . Those few moments with the both of you and our correspondence here mean so much to me, since I am mostly homebound because of COVID and its threat to my health. So when I count my blessings I count you twice. Once for the time I met you and Mary Beth, and once for all the times I have watched you all on TV. With much love to you and all the Waltons. Bill and Nancy.

More like very lucky. I was supposed to be dead in 2017 abd in 2019. But yeah, it is wonderful. I 've had a great marriage and now a new friend in Judy and Mary Beth hopefully, if I ever get on Facebook.

"Those of us who stuck with nine seasons...☺️" as if any of us fervent Walton's fan are going anywhere!! I'm afraid, Miss Judy, you all are "stuck with us" probably forever! ❤I love how you highlighted each season, noting what the first episode of each was! Even within the very special initial five seasons, there's something extra special about the first two seasons! The writers really presented John Boy especially in such a way as for the audience to bond with this young Appalachian man who so very much loves his family. And by sharing his perceptions in intriguing and lovely ways, we viewers bonded also with every family member and every neighbor in this little hamlet in the Blue Ridge Mountains, even unto developing affection for the mountains as well!! I got to thinking that the name Curtis is used three times in the series: your Curtis ~ the doctor, Curtis the Blacksmith (was that Ned Beatty? Gosh what a terrific actor!) And, John Curtis your son. Was there a friend of Mr Hamner's named Curtis? Or some other special connection with the name? I'm beginning to watch the series from the very beginning. Many have mentioned here how they feel better watching The Walton's! Even though scary things happened (The Hunt is a good example) there was safety on Walton's Mt.,within the community, the church, the school, and most especially the family and every relationship within the family ~ despite occasional disagreements ~ was essentially secure and loving! For whatever reasons, contemporary life by and large increasingly lacks those kinds of safety! As a longtime fan, and hopefully friend in the community You've created here, Judy, I appreciate the safe relationships and safe actions the writers so carefully created. Even vicariously, that feeling of being safe is a real stress reducer back when the show first aired, through rebroadcasts, and still today. I'm so looking forward to your guest! Chad was definitely so handsome and I hoped he and Erin would have been married! Alas! Poor Erin! New Year's blessings to you and Waltons everywhere! ❤

The Firestorm was such an important story that I wish it could be seen again on television. So much news about banning books and marginalizing minorities is happening again in our world, especially in the US. Every time I see this episode I am amazed at how wonderful the writing and acting is in this wonderful series. This is one of my favorite episodes in a series I still watch today. Happy New Year

I loved every season. Grew up with the Waltons and still watch it. Would it be possible in a future episode to point out on google earth where the house originally stood and where it was moved to? I tried looking but the locations have changed so much the only thing I could find was a cement depression that looks like drucillas pond. Sorry about the spelling. Maybe you could visit the locations in person and walk through where the house and store were?
@judynorton25989 ай бұрын
The area where the house was on the back lot is now office buildings and parking lots. If I find a visual reference I’ll share it.
