He’d set up clay targets in an array around the sandy berm and on my nod would do a mag dump from the hip shredding most of em. He’d then giggle as he removed the mag and made sure the chamber was clear before storing it back in the truck and getting out his bolt action to shoot at .410 shotgun shells at 25 yards laying facing away from us. Did I mention he was 7 at the time. Love the show. Too bad you’re not in congress.

I was so excited when I was told my rifle was next & I did my part to get it assembled. My dad loved it & was touched when I told him to look at the serial number. I also liked Ian's video where he got a 9mm Calico and showed that, despite it's legendary reputation for being unreliable... if you just tension the mag correctly, and fill it without getting a ton of debris in there, it works perfectly - he had 0 failures over several full (and half-size) mags. Of course, that would be a terrible military firearm; because asking soldiers to not overtension something... yeah. Then the Russians copied it into the Bizon; and made a far better version of it... but it's now being withdrawn, because... surprise, asking soldiers not to overtension the magazine and needing to keep it clean of debris, not realistic. Gotta make it as idiot and weather proof as possible.

It also doesn’t help that such magazines don’t really add much for just the additional concerns, it’s like drum magazines a friend of mine who works in the MET said they toyed with 50 round drums for mp5s back in the 2000’s so that if it kicked off (major terrorism scenario) a firearms officer could basically have the all ammo they were going to need without reloading until people pointed out you can just clamp two 30 rounder together and you’ve got 60 rounds ready to go, and later with the G36 they could clamp 3 x 30 mags together for 90 rounds if they really wanted to but did it add anything besides weight or problems? Again not really

Ian has a regular Calico, and he tested how long he could shoot it without cleaning before it stopped working from gunk or parts breaking. It lasted longer than he thought, but the extractor was the achilles heel, and the replacement part broke pretty much immediately. I would hazard a cautious guess that the main differing feature between the 9mm and 22lr versions of the magazine are the feed-lips. So if 9mm fits single stack in the helix, then 22lr can double-stack. I am fully prepared to be wrong about this, though.

get a 9mm one, make it full auto. Matt and Ian aren't SOTs so this is the first time an established GunTuber had the opportunity.
@TheJaymundo3 жыл бұрын
I believe that is likely completely impossible. I heard the late model Liberty3 9mm Calicos are notorious for malfunctions. I saw one guntuber who honestly could not get his to fire twice in a row no matter what he did. And that was a brand new unmodded gun he had FFL shipped directly to his house. He said the older models ran better because he had one before the bolt broke. Liberty3s were originally made under the Clintons and a one hundred round magazine standard was not popular with lawmakers. Watching his, I wonder if his was mechanically sabotaged. It cycled manually just fine. But the blowback system NEVER worked correctly reducing the thing to a single shot firearm.
@nukagunner88443 жыл бұрын
It is possible to convert these to full auto. I’ve seen videos of a converted one before. But it’s not an easy thing to do. You would have to machine a new fire control group which would be a pain in the ass as the current one is tight and a pain to field strip as it is.
