Also, the M1A1 didn't come into existence until 1986. Everything built from 1979 to 1985 was just a standard, OG design, M1. You didn't pay close enough attention to what your dad was telling you.

Ukraine have wanted leopard 2 tanks since the invasion. That’s because they’re cheap to repair, easy to maintain and easy to train troops to use. Abrahams aren’t, as are the challenger tanks; of which the latter still have obsolete guns due an upgrade this year.

Imagine a gas engine sputtering out it just coasts to a stop. Imagine something with a turbine engine if it dies you fall out the sky. I was in the army but not a tanker but I imagine they just remove it and send it to be rebuilt. I imagine that will be in Poland. Also I think I remember that they chose the turbine engine cause it can basically run on anything. People say (JP8) jet fuel as if it’s this ultra propellant. It’s everywhere in the military it’s so volatile they let PV2s slosh it all over the generators as they fill them. Woody always does that preface I’m not an expert but… so when he inevitably wrong he can say I said I wasn’t an expert.

That's only the US Abrams though. It more has to do with political maneuvering by the US to have Germany pick up the slack in giving more aid. 2:42 - this was myth to delay delivery... T80 tank as well has turbine engine, in fact they are same generation of the tank basically and T80 was made in response to M1 Abrams. So this "jet" or "non-jet" really means nothing. Ukrainians can maintain T80s, they can maintain M1 Abrams too. Sure they need parts, they need like repair manuals, but is not like some sort of magical thing. As well I think what many people get wrong... they think Ukrainians are some sort of farmers going into war. No... Ukraine had biggest army in Europe before the war... poor army but it wasn't small. Not as big as ruzzian, but it is not some tiny country with tiny army. Ukrainians were prime contractors for ruzzian jet upgrade packages imagine F16 upgraders where US had all those different versions, a, b, c to whatever f or h now. Basically taking gen 4 fighter into gen 4.5. Well that is what Ukraine does to Mig 29s (an equivalent to F16), they are country to do to. They build their own tactical ballistic missiles, their own anti ship missiles, they are actually leaders in jet and turbo-prop engine design and manufacturing. Part of the reason why Byaraktar TB2 were supplied to Ukraine is that Ukraine supplies turkey with the engines for those drones. ruzzia itself was maintaining most of it's helicopter engines in Ukraine until 2014. Same for tanks - Ukraine upgrades old T62s (they call them T64s) and T80s (T84s) and they do everything, ERA, they even have developed APS for them. Sure they don't have scale, but at the same time they were like 7th biggest arm exporter in the world. Not 1st like US, not 2nd like ruzzia, but they were in top 10. So can they maintain Abrams - yes of course they can. People just assume that Ukraine is some sort third war country like Afghanistan where they live in stone age. Iraq had M1 Abrams and Iraq is way less capable of maintaining them than Ukraine. So this was invented just as an excuse. That said it is not true that M1 Abrams was tank "mean to fight ruzzians in eastern Europe". Leopard 1 and 2 - yes, but not M1. M1 Abrams was primarily meant to be used in deserts and where the soils is hard, nor rivers not mud. Now can they fight ruzzians in Europe - yes absolutely they can, but they are not the best tank for the task. There is one simple reason for that - M1 Abrams are too heavy for most of the bridges in Eastern Europe (by design of the bridges, because soviets deliberately made them too weak, so that their tanks can cross, but American ones can't), same applies to Challenger 2. And this kind of creates an issue - they have to stay on the roads, they can't wade the rivers, they would get stuck in the muddy fields. Leopard on other hand is ideal for this role. That said why Poland buys M1s then? kind of simple reason - they equip their guard army with them, they would be amazing on defensive and I think Ukraine will use them the same - keep them around Kyiv just in case of another attempt from ruzzia and that allows them to free-up other tanks for frontline.

4:57 - my assumption is that the number announced does not matter. Point is - ruzzia not going to shit themselves and nuke the world over 31 tanks... that would be silly. But as soon as there is 1 we can send literally unlimited number of them, because who is going to tell when the original 31 get's destroyed? Like unless somebody pictures somehow all the tanks in one spot and it turns out to be 300, then it may be questionable, but I am sure they will drip feed the numbers... "maybe another 15, and 10 and 6 etc." and when somebody says where those 100 tanks came from the answer will be... well we delivered few here and few there. Basically nobody will ever be able to account for all the tanks and US has like 3000 in reserve. Secondly, I think 31 tanks were more of the token gesture to sort of imply the contribution for others, especially those delivering Leopards... I think it is US way of saying "30+ would be welcome contribution"... and there are few dozen countries with Leopards, so if each does the same thing, then there could be 300-600 tanks coming. And yes indeed whatever 60 tanks were pledged is a joke. Ukraine has already destroyed like 1500 ruzzian ones... as a matter of fact ruzzia lost more thanks than UK, France, Germany and Italy has combined. I reckon Ukrainians operate ~1000 tanks fleet, ruzzia has about the same left + slowly pulling trash like T62s back from boneyards. So yes 60 tanks is drop in the ocean, but I believe these are just "trainers", Ukraine needs some to get their troops trained before using more of them in the battle. I am confident that Abrams, Leopards and Challengers will remain in some bases near Kyiv and we won't see them on the battlefield this summer. For one as trainers and secondly as last resort battalion. Because there was all that talk about ruzzians going for Kyiv again - I reckon even 60 modern tanks and 200 modern IFVs like Bradleys could provide decent defensive force on the main defensive axis. ruzzians failed to crack some volunteers with javelins last time, so I reckon they stand no chance against well equipped batalion.
