Ill never forget my first concert. December 6 1973 Capitol centre,Landover Md. Front row for The Who.Warm up band was an unknown southern band named Lynyrd Skynyrd! I caught a can of beer tossed into the crowd from Ronnie Van Zant! Watching Pete I just could not believe anyone could jump so high. those windmills and scissor kicks were amazing.keith moon s hands were a blur . A helluva intro to live rocknroll!

I'll never forget my first concert... My dad told me to get in the car and shut up and don't ask questions. I didn't think anything was weird because he always said that. He would always hit me and then smile and take me to ice cream or whatever. This night was different... We pulled up to the theatre and it read THE WHO and I asked my dad "who?" It turned into an Abbot and Costello skit up until my dad popped me in the mouth and said "THE NAME OF THE BAND IS THE WHO!"

It starts to go off the rails at 1:09 or so, where Pete and John get crosswired -- John plays the root of the chord that ends the verse, while Pete plays the correct chord. Pete starts glowering at John right there. It's not so much Moon's issues, who always sounded that rattletrap, but if The Ox starts clamming notes, you can't keep the take

And the crazy thing is…no one in the crowd would’ve noticed or given a toss. But to Pete, being the perfectionist he was, it would’ve been like a knife in the gut!

Electric blast out the bloody gate! But, alas, the cats rushed this one. Pete catches that, I think. But to interrupt a song, like that, consumed by ego. My pet peeve with The Who, the only one. Everyone is on it, but, as I say, rushed, rushing, gushing. Simply compare the studio track. BUT, live is live. I know this to be true. Live has its own rules. One can only yield to them.

@SquallLionhart40910 жыл бұрын
I recall somewhere saying they basically had no rehearsal time and hadn't been touring together for a good while. The performance wasn't very clean. They also kinda ****** this song up, so he was probably a bit pissed about that too. The Who were a band that relied far more on raw energy than anything else, so I think this was easily worth filming. (Bear in mind, filming a band costs a **** of a lot more than grabbing a camcorder, especially in 1977)

I think also Pete's Hiwatts picked this show to start to fart out on him. There's another clip from this same DVD (can't remember the song right now, but it's on here),and you can see Pete is finally almost at the "smash-it-all-up" point and initially just knocks some stuff off the top of the speaker cabinet, he suddenly yells at his roadie (poor Alan) then completely shoves the top Hiwatt head off of where it's sitting...and suddenly- the sound improves 1,000%.

I think it's just that they fucked up the transition and skipped Pete's solo and the last verse from the song.

Yeah as they used to say in the old days, he needed a blow, not some blow, but a rest as he was clearly not in tour shape physically. He looks even worse in the 78 footage, very labored and sluggish. I've always wondered if he would have been sacked form the band had he not passed away, there were some accounts that it was inevitable and that he knew it, which is maybe why when he died his stomach had 32 undissolved pills he was taking to help curb his alcoholism. Even Keith Moon couldn't get that confused, that's a half a bottle.
