Hopefully the Hollywood strike lasts long enough for every single one of the pathetic excuses for creatives to have been either weeded out for their greed and lack of talent or until AI can replace the pathetic worthless brains of what is now called humanity. A computer could adapt an already written book series better than these idealogue driven wastes of oxygen. The worst part is those same idealogues will say you shouldnt drive a car to combat climate change when if they stopped breathing it would be far better for "climate change" and the human race as a whole.

I had someone who works as a writer in Hollywood explain to me how this happens. Studios won't agree to fund a new, unheard of, untested show or movie. They want to know that it already has an audience, so if it isn't an already existing IP, a book, a movie that you've reimagined, or a game, they won't even look at it. They think none will watch it and it will be a waste of money. So, writers have come up with a way around that. They have an idea for a show. Let's say, something like Game of Thrones, but with women being the leads and heroes. (Because right now, social justice, strong women, and equality are huge things with the modern, younger writers.) So, their show is all about magic and monsters and women fighting and saving the day. No studio would greenlight this, so what they do is look for an already existing IP that's a bit fringe and where the creator isn't too involved. (With Game of Thrones, George Martin was writing in, so he wouldn't let you just kidnap the IP.) So, let's go with books that were popular enough to become a game with a bit of a following, but not so popular that everyone knows and loves it. The Witcher is perfect. Now you go to the studio and show them it has a fanbase and with some tweaks, it will be very popular. They are looking for shows that can compete on a Game of Thrones level and that have an already existing fanbase, so they'll likely agree. Now you can take *your* show idea and fit this IP over it like a skin costume. You take the IP characters, like Yen, and replace them with your characters. You use the basic framework and little by little, season by season, you move the show from the IP to your show idea. Yeah, you had to use their names and storylines at first, but you got it greenlit. And if the fans get upset, you call them names and say they just don't like strong women and gay people. Apparently, this happens all the time, as studios won't greenlight original material because they think it won't be watched when it competes with already popular IPs. I think the biggest problem with The Witcher was that Henry fought back. Actors aren't usually invested in the IP and they do what they are told. Henry was a fan and promised to fight for the IP. People might not have noticed all this if Henry hadn't stood up to them and then if they hadn't tried to malign him when he left. I'm not sure how to fix this. Studio heads are afraid of risking money on an untested idea. Modern writers have ideas and agendas and they cannot write the IPs they are kidnapping. There just seems to be a huge disconnect between what audiences really want and what Hollywood is willing to create.

Not sticking to original story and source material - that I can somewhat understand in context of your comment. But in my opinion what killed this series is just bad writing. Like this video states, the action is all over the place, pacing is non existant, and logic is long gone. I haven't read the book but I certanly despise this serie. :D

@@joshuakimmich9536 - I think you make a good point. I think the studios are very wrong in their ideas. I think people want new stories and if you bring an IP from a book or game, fans want it to be what they expect. I think current writers are terrible at the job. They think it's their job to teach us a lesson and they push their own world views. I think if they wrote their own original stories, they would be awful. But, there could be an audience for it. If they wrote the story of a girl who discovers her magic and has to fight evil in a medieval setting with her powerful witch mentor, I'm sure there would be fans. I think studio heads have no idea what they are greenlighting and don't keep a watch to see if it's being well executed. If the studio executive who greenlighted the Witcher was a fan, he'd have noticed if the show wasn't at all like the books. But, they are so far removed from the fans that they fail us.

In books - Vilgefortz was portrayed as a witcher - but without any morals. Much stronger (probably the strongest person/creature in the world) than witcher or anyone. They even had a similar past - both were born from a mage mother (and that was super rare). Both are skilled with weapons and magic (Vilgefortz was a warrior for a long time before he decided to practice his natural talent). Both smart and strong-willed. When Geralt tried to recall what mistakes he made when he was fighting against Vilgefortz - he understood that he did none. Vilgefortz just outclassed him. Vilgefortz is someone that Geralt could become - but chose not to. And now please recall how Vilgefortz was portrayed in S01E08 - a complete emotional male idiot, who can't fight at all.

they manage to do that with every female character from the books. one very important thing to note when Triss finds Geralt on the beach - what happens is - Trish, in a few seconds, takes Geralt to Brokolin forest for them to heal him, they can't heal him, Yennefer comes there in a few seconds, heals him, leaves immediately. so. why couldn't Triss just. take him to Yennefer? leave him on the beach and tell Yennefer? How long did this trip even take for her to be immediately back without even a mention or worried thought about it after?

Vilgefortz did gravely injure Geralt in the books. Broke his hip and nearly killed him. Vilgefortz also melted Regis. Some of the mages are far more powerful in the books than they are in the show. And yes, in order to heal Geralt, Triss had to take him to see the druids. But there was also a whole slew of story missing from the show that was in the book. So even though the show got the beats right with the fight between Vilgefortz and Geralt, they still managed to hugely eff it up.

From what I heard, Season 4 of the Witcher is on 'indefinite hiatus' or something similar to that. They say it's because of the writer's strike, but a lot of people believe that Hollywood is using the writer's strike as an excuse to cancel terrible movies that were greenlit years ago by very dumb people (who Hollywood is also trying to get rid of using the writer's strike as a reason) so that they won't take more massive flops, and the damage it will do to brands and their company wallets.

I hate to cut into your parade but Tor Lara is not an invention by Netflix, and it is not a Monolith. It is Tor Lara, a tower with a magic portal that leads to an unknown destination that is straight from the books. FYI. Hissrich and cronies deserve all the hate they can get, but this part is Sapkowski, not them.

Lydia has a lot more depth, so many of the characters are flattened. Rience has a way more satisfying death. I am reading the book so could see they did borrow more from the books this season but just did it worse and have really taking a lot of the depth out.

No, not every ruler in this show is an idiot... Only the male rulers... Now, compare this to a scene from the books when Emhyr orders several people to be arrested and brought to trial for treason and one of the people he mentions is Kahir. And Kahir's father is in the room when Emhyr says that, but doesn't dare to say a thing. Then Emhyr turns to him and says smth like "Don't worry, if Kahir's failure turns out to be because of his incompetence or stupidity rather than treason, he will not be tortured. I will simply have him decapitated, so you needn't worry"... Now compare this to Emhyr in the show who simply does impersonations of Cercei Lannister...

It was amazing that amongst the battle scenes where characters were getting slaughtered left and right, other characters seem to take extra time to cry and express their feelings in the middle of the battle raging all around them, and not get vaporized by magic, sliced to pieces, or get arrows in their back.

I forgot I was watching the Witcher at some points with how much they sidelined Geralt. It's all about Ciri now with undertones of wokeness, feminist girl bosses, gay romance, always making the men appear weak and useless, race based casting, it just gets worse with each episode. It's a shame how they destroyed the series.

Actually, many events from this season were indeed in the books. But because bad writing Netflix could neatly bring it down to some fighting, some screaming and swearing and deus ex machina actions. It really makes you think, how is that possible that these idiots (writers & showrunner) even have a jib in the first place. And no one seems to control it for 3 seasons straight. After all it costs hell tone of money, which is not redeemed

I really wanted to like this but the acting is truly so bad. Not counting the main cast but some of the diversity hires are honestly so shoddy. & as it was going from scene to scene, it truly felt so much like a half decent local theatre production, but in no way a massively popular, huge budgeted hit series production. That Asian girl in the forest had some of the absolute worst line delivery I think I’ve ever seen. & again and again it seemed to end up as female scolding male, or groups of female are boss bitches, but it wasn’t earned, and als the show is called Witcher so why is the Witcher hardly in it. They could have written it to have actual decent female characters. They should have just adapted the story they’re meant to be adapting. Since the actress turned 21 Ciri is hot as fuck though. I am guna try n give it a rewatch but it is such a shame. Even when massive things were happing in canon it just didn’t feel big at all. On next viewing try to imagine that each scene is part of a half decent local play and it sort of works. All theB & C list actors all just feel like annoying drama kids, who are only hired as they happen to be female and of an apparently oppressed background.

Why do i feel lik all the current film makers and actors we have now hate films? What happened to the well felt films we had from mid 90s past? I assume all current film makers and actors grew up watching that stuff. Am i to believe that they watched everything that came before the mid 90s and felt that, that was so bad they had to for lack of a better word, kindergartenise all film media?

Not only is the show just objectively bad, it was made this way with malicious intent. From the casting, to the writing, all the way to the direction - they took every aspect of what made The Witcher awesome and perverted each one. If I did this sort of thing at my job I'd be fired within a week. These Hollywood people are such trash.

Lol at least someone else noticed the water bit with Geralt. He's in the sand, then suddenly under deep water, then back in shallow water with Triss who just randomly appears and yah everyone just always randomly appearing at just the right time to save everyone who needs it is just completely over the top ridiculous in this silly show. Also, I just can't with the silly actress who plays Ciri and that incessant makeup she has plastered all over her annoying face. Even when she's lost in the desert the girls loaded up completely with her ridiculous ass makeup. Terrible actress, terrible show.

I mean I didn't like s3 but this guy points such details and now I don't like it even more. Hate how they ruined this beautiful fantasy. I remember how excited I was after watching just a few episodes of s1 and now all I thinking is that maybe this show should've not see day light at all... so sad. The only THING I THINK can save the story is canceling this TV show and after some time they sale the rights to some talented filmmaker who will bring Henry back but to the big screen and make a great trilogy of this saga! We can only hope someone saw the REAL potential of this cast and its fantasy world. Old and new fans deserve The Witcher to be EPIC, not mediocre.........................................................

Well, to be fair, Alzur's Thunder - the spell that Thissaia cast, is by the lore one of the most powerfull and most difficult spells to cast, and Vilgefortz did in fact easilly defeated Geralt in the books. The show sells that “the most accurate to books” -Killing off Rience, he is not only satisfying to be killed by Ciri, but also an outstanding and entertaining villain to read. “I, Rience, Will teach you pain with these hands, these fingers” What a Joke -Filavandrel is the pathetic one, from what I know, he’s not dead yet, but it’s fine if there’s any good on writing or development before his end, but no he just standing there and die like an extra. -Keira Metz from books is badass, I love this the most, she is the one who tell how shit went down in the Garstang to Geralt and the readers in her perspective, from fighting amidst the chaos to get hurled by Terranova through the window then drop on Geralt, but wtf in this one, she only do a prep talk then everyone ready to go… - Lydia is tragic one, she die because of love she had in Vilgefortz, trying to buy the time for Vilgefortz to calling signal to “Squirrel” Sco’iatel Elves army and Rience to initiate the attack, but in this, she just worthless, dying like nothing. - Vilgefortz seems a bit better on this pile of garbage, Mahesh Jadu can deliver another good version of Vilgefortz, that staff swapping magic thing while do the fight is cool, but that’s it. - Fringilla looks like a drunk Janitor. - The show presents about diversity, but gives Stregobor who is racist and hates elves a heroic death, personally, I love this guy now lol .- Geralt Heroic Send Off?? More like Geralt pathetic Fu*k Off, fight a bunch of thugs in Nilfgaardian patrol armor is NOT heroic!!! Ps. Ciri is not fight that crab monster with rock, 6:58 she rips one of their armor plate and kill them, it far worse.
