Whilst the Aviation cocktail has never really been my type of cocktail - it is a great cocktail nonetheless. Read the description above for Gary Regan's response when he first tried this drink! ...and yes, I realise I pronounced Parfait Amour incorrectly - it should be "ah-moo-r" but for some reason I insisted on saying it incorrectly about 7 or 8 times!! I was thinking that too. Not hating on him. I've watched so many of his videos and appreciate them. But if you're gonna make a video about the best version of something, you have to make it to the recipe. We all know how much different liquors can completely change the flavor of a drink, so substituting multiple key ingredients in a ~4oz. cocktail is undoubtedly going to change it...

So great recipe and video...but it’s not “the world’s best recipe” if you change the ingredients from those used when it was rated as “the world’s best aviation.” Changing brands, especially with the liqueurs will make quite a difference. So, while this video was great, it’s not actually “the world’s greatest aviation” recipe. Maybe just call it “a great aviation recipe.” Isn’t that enough on its own?
@StevetheBartender_5 жыл бұрын
The original recipe can be found in the description.. admittedly it is a bit clickbait-y..
@davidkeatingresearch5 жыл бұрын
@@StevetheBartender_ Also, no disrespect to Gary Regan, but let's call a spade a spade. This isn't actually an Aviation recipe at all. The Aviation Cocktail has a written record dating back to 1916 in Hugo Ensslin's, "Recipes for Mixed Drinks," and that recipes include gin, maraschino liqueur, creme de violet and lemon juice. Parfait Amour is a curacao (liqueur) offspring so for lack of a better descriptor...orange flavored, creme de violet is violet flavored. Orange ≠ violet. Call me a cocktail purist, but substituting creme de violet with Parfait Amour makes this a "modern take on a classic cocktail" and it is not actually an Aviation at all, but more like an Aviation Redux. All that being said, this is probably a great cocktail and it was definitely a great video. All i'm saying is that it's not an Aviation.
@davidkeatingresearch5 жыл бұрын
Also, in my humble opinion...nothing beats Rothman & Winter's Creme de Violette. I always keep a bottle of it at home and a few at my bar! I don't know it's availability worldwide, but if you can get your hands on some, it will make you a pretty amazing Aviation!!!

@StevetheBartender_5 жыл бұрын
Using my own gin that I just released a few weeks on a cocktail channel is a little different to promoting a watch on a cocktail channel. I used it as it’s a suitable substitution... I even mention that I’m not going to use it unless it’s suitable in the video... or are you joking??
@godfishy5 жыл бұрын
A bit jokey but also a bit of a warning that people can be put off easily. I started making cocktails after watching your vids and you was good at telling us of obvious substitutions. Your gin, which will of course be awesome, will not be an obvious substitute for most of your viewer's. That's the type of information perhaps needed to make the best cocktail at home. Sorry, just trying to keep the missus happy with the best cocktails I can do. 😉
@neoroman05105 жыл бұрын
I like him to talk about his new gin, I think it's so cool that he can do that. If I lived in Australia I would probably order a bottle or two. :)
@StevetheBartender_5 жыл бұрын
I’ve recommended other Australian gins as substitutions when I think they have been suitable and they most likely aren’t available to most too.. my point is that I only do it if I believe it’s a good substitution... And by having companies send me a bottle to use in a video or selling my own gin to make a living means that I can continue to film and share these videos..
