@@tomchrimes2674 I don't know how it is with these, but generally speaking, serial numbers aren't a reliable indicator of manufacture numbers because they don't always start at all zeroes and aren't always continuous either. Me : Okay, "10 microns" is thinner than a bag. ...Wait he said "ten times thinner"? I thought reusable plastic tablecloths were 200 [m-something-units] thick . What 100 units are a bag thick!? (lose 2 hours) After doing some research, (... see summarized list below ) either: 1. Australia's average bin bags are (4 mil) _much thicker than Canada's (1 mil) trash bag. Which makes sense if they also need to resist things making their way into the bag as well as out of. 2. Or Wade's been using disposable tarps to gather his trash. Which is sort of clever: Cover the floor with a tarp, put trash on the floor with little care, _regularly_ pickup trash with tarp, repeat as needed; Also, buy more fire extinguishers and inspect+maintain them regularly. (numbers from Uline Canada catalogue) {0.23 mil / 6 Microns} economy _liner_ rolls: _liners_ are *not bags* (in purpose) {0.7 mil / 18 microns } dog waste bag: {0.8 mil / 20 microns } kitchen bag: {1.4 mil / 35 Microns} outdoor bag w/ drawstring: {1.2 to 2.25 mil / 51 to 57 Microns} take-out bag: {3 mil / 76 Microns} sorbent (hazardous material) bag: {5 mil / 127 Microns} tarp: ... tarp/covering is not a bag (...yet?) {6 mil / 150 Microns} extra heavy contractor's bag :

Shockingly easy to fix, if you can get to the membrane. Replace the existing membrane with cellophane or mylar (thermal blanket material would work) coated with a high-value dielectric, which can be as simple as gently wiping water with dish soap, then letting it dry. You can use powdered graphite, too, but make sure it doesn't reach the edges. Do this after applying glue to the frame, and stretching the film over it, so that the film adheres to the frame. If you use the right kind of film, you can use a hair dryer or heat gun to "shrink wrap" the film on the frame, which makes it easier, as you don't have to stretch the film taught and glue it to the frame in the same step. After mounting, trim the film to fit the frame, as it's vitally important not to allow any shorts between the film and grid(s). That's also why you coat the film in a dielectric, so as to allow a high charge to build up without arcing. Electrostats use a ridiculously high voltage (hence the need for the 'Energizer,' which is basically just a special high-voltage transformer), so guarding against shorts is CRUCIAL. Another thing worth noting, humidity affects electrostats negatively, as the moisture impedes static build-up (it's the same reason static shocks are worse in the winter/dry season). I once helped re-build a set of old Soundlab M-1s, which have a *curved* frame, which made it harder, but it was still doable. Getting the film stretch taught and attached is the hardest part, so a tiny flat panel should be a breeze for you.

I have an AKG K1000 and Stax Sigma normal bias. Both sound amazing to my ears. My high serial number AKG K1000 in a wooden box (not painted black) sounds amazing, but damm, it needs power! My stax sigma is hooked up to a Stax srd-7 energizer, connected to my Marantz SR6001 stereo, and sounds phenomenal as well. It is better at high notes than the k1000, but it doesn't really have sub base at all. EQ does bring back the bass and different stereo always changes the sound, so loads of improvement can be made. I don't have a favorite. Each one is better at different music types than the other. To me, they sound like having a miniature concert hall on my head. It really surprised me the first time I tried both of them.
