I thankfully never had a bad roommate. However, that didn’t mean I had bad barracks neighbors. Usually stuff, loud music and trashing the place then pretending they weren’t home when the CQ made everyone come out to clean up their mess.

I had a really, unpleasant roommate. I had a roommate in FT. Ord, CA. back in the early 90's, who didn't like to clean the barracks, and always skipped out on work, to go to his favorite bar or the mall. This guy was really arrogant and just thought, that he was above everyone. Karma eventually got him and he gor chaptered out of the Army.

First roommate was a 40 year old man, seriously cut his hand on accident the week we got deployment orders. Second was a dirtball who couldn't clean up his mess. Third was a clean freak that smoked lots of Spice and did tons of cocaine. You really don't see the best of the best in the 11B community. Bless FT Carson.

Glad that on Ft Drum there are a lot of barracks that are 1 person by design. More room than the larger barracks where you have roommates but the tradeoff is that the 2 person barracks rooms have proper kitchenettes and full size bathrooms. I'm glad I got a room to myself as far as I can tell for my time in the army.
@Dmoton232 жыл бұрын
Just got my room changed not too long ago because my previous roommate was a slime ball. Literally mold in fridge from old leftover food, mold in the kitchen sink from old dishes, he'd piss all over the seat in bathroom and when he shaved he'd clog up the bathroom sink the guy would get wasted everyday and would puke sometimes super gross hearing that lol He'd even smoke in his room which you aren't supposed to do he never really cleaned up after himself. Another thing he'd do which was annoying as hell is slam his door hard as he could everyday it was super annoying and unnecessary I'm glad I got my room changed it took a few months lol

Early 90s barracks in Korea, I had a roommate that would watch "Home Alone" EVERY NIGHT on the VCR, the VCR had the feature to rewind and replay and he left that setting on. That stupid movie would play from end of duty day to opening formation. I tried a couple of time to shut it off or turn the volume down and he would get up and turn it back on. One times we almost came to blows, but others in the barracks broke us up. I don't think we ever said more than a couple of sentences to each other. The guy was just pissed that he was sent to Korea from Panama. I found out later that he had married a Panamanian against orders from the Army and that is why he was so miserable. He tried several times to get orders back to Panama but was denied, he even tried to reenlist with orders to Panama, but those got denied too. The last I heard about his is that he ETS'd back to the states and intended to fly back to Panama because she couldn't get a US visa or passport. There is definitely more to her story.

In South Korea I once had a roommate who came from AIT and was living in a 3 man room with me and my other roommate. The moment he took off his boots, his feet smelled bad and did not wash them. This went on for a few days and I did not have the nerve to tell this new soldier. So my other roommate talked to him and he did wash his feet afterwords and had no problems since. BTW, have fun at Fort Hood. That was my second duty station after I PCS from Alaska. The company barracks I stayed in, at the time, was on Battalion Road where 4th ID used to be.

I didn't join until 2005, so I had more of a suite-mate. Separate bedrooms with a small common area and bathroom. My first roomie and I came straight from basic, so we were already cool. We deployed only a few months later, and I gained a bit of a hard rep on deployment and was MEDEVAC'd. Every roommate I had after that was very well-behaved because they knew a woodline adjustment would happen if they got out of line.

I had a friend that got married and had a huge stack of playboy magazines. I was helping him move out and he asked me if I wanted them. I said sure why not. I put them in my filing cabinet and literally forgot all about them. Anyway, I had a roommate that was a total dick. I flew a friend of mine up to visit and rented a hotel room for the week. I had to swing by my barracks room one day for something and I walked in. Grabbed what I needed to grab and left. As I got out of the building I remembered I had left my ID card on my desk. I walk back into my room and this dude was standing in the middle of the room with pages from my playboys torn out and laying on the floor with a towel laying at his feet rubbing one out.

@barke27barker192 жыл бұрын
Nobody, especially the married career NCOs who never lived in the barracks ever understood what it is like to be forced to share a room with someone who is capriciously thrown in with you. They just think you will live like in a Brady Bunch episode and be happy with the arrangement and be best of friends always looking out for each other. They never understand that many of them are inconsiderate assholes and there are many examples of that mentioned in the video and in the comments. And if any of my roommates were late because they slept in, I get grief from NCOs because I didn't wake them up. Or if they were messy, we all got punished. All of the sudden, just because there was an empty bed, I am made responsible for people I never asked for. I have no doubt retention would have been easier if single soldiers didn't have to deal with all the bullshit after work every night. People don't want to work all day only to go home and fight with someone who is noisy or a slob or always borrowing shit from you and lending nothing in return. Some roommates I had were so unbearable I would stay at work hours after the workplace closed.

This was actually my friends roommate at Fort Hood. So this roommate would never pay for toilet paper so my friend would have to lock it up. After he did this, my friend would wonder why he kept on taking showers after using the toilet? Turns out he was spreading his cheeks and letting the shower water clean out his butthole. They both had a E5 team leader who lived off Post. This E5 regularly used their shower after PT out of convenience. One day the E5 noticed some brown clumps in the corner. That E5 realized what it was and that particular private, well he regretted not buying toilet paper...

There are some of these men who are reliant on their girlfriends as mother replacements. A happy wife is a happy life. So creep her out. Make your presence and goals unclear, and she will assume rape. She will then lead him away from you. The leash is on the inside.
