My brother bought me that and a Christmas pudding stout for Xmas as he knew I was into craft recently. I smiled politely as I opened what I knew to be home bargains dross. I managed that mango debacle but the stout was too brutal. Absolutely terrible stuff. Great review absolutely cracked me up.

Swirling the dregs around to pour is only something I've seen done intentionally with German wheat beers, I'd never ever do it with any British bottle fermented ales or craft beers that stand any chance of having sediment.

I've seen it constantly in homebargins and wanted to try it but thoughs other micro brew verities were terrible, they should be ashamed probably spent more money designing the can than the actual liquid. You can now get Thornbridge Astryd and Jaipur at Home Bargains. Astryd at £1.39 for 440ml is the steal of the century. Having said that the worst beer I’ve ever had was the Twice as Nice “DIPA” from Aldi. The only beer I’ve sink poured and I’ve drank some filth in my time.

The cheeky choco one in the same range is not TOO BAD to be fair. The problem is that you think they are cheap at £1.50 or whatever so "what's the harm?". However when you can go to Tesco and get 4 bottles of Abbot reserve or equivalent for £6 you realise how much you have been ripped off scraping the barrel at home bargains
@theauldscientist2 жыл бұрын
It's getting to the point where lots and lots of short cuts seem to be being taken by a lot of brewers, considering the cost of utilities and ingredients these days I have some sympathy. However, remember Lost Cosmonaut by North Brewing? That is very often on sale in Tesco, £6 for 4 cans so £1.50 a can for an absolutely incredible beer. I've started clearing the shelf when it's at that price as it's just not worth the risk being adventurous any more!
@MrSupplementScene2 жыл бұрын
They're removing Lost Cos from the shelf as an individual can so I'm unsure if they'll remove the 4packs too. So maybe you want to stock up a few. I actually prefer the 4 packs of Vocations Hop Skip and Juice though myself. Salts Huckabuck and London Beer Factory's Jungle Trip are very decent offerings of those 4packs for £6 (also 440ml). And if you like a bitter west coast IPA offering Buxton Lupulus is pretty decent. I wouldn't say any are great but all very decent and probably on par with Lost Cos, depending on your individual tastes.

Was bought 1 of these by a family member that doesnt know better - I have just put it straight in the bin. I bought one a few months back from a HB but a varient of a real pale ale. I forget the name. At the time I thought HB has done me proud and pricing a cheap beer that may taste alright. The blurb wasn't to far off from yours, but by god was it awful. Never again will I buy a HB own brand beer again. I’ve tasted some horrible mango-ales. So ... I just made antother batch of my own PA/APA/IPA-version with "tropical" hops and a sturdy, malty backbone. Not strong, not over-the-top, not NEIPA-juicy. But plenty "mango-notes" from the hops and yeast, and a rich, malty taste from Maris Otter and cara mashed on high 69C. US hops, british malt and british Verdant yeast. Cheap and very cheerful. Just do-it-yourself. The IPA-family is easy to brew!
@MrSupplementScene2 жыл бұрын
Out of curiosity how much per pint or litre would it cost you to brew this Jan and how much would it cost to brew a decent NEIPA? Not that I'm sure I have the ability to easily brew these either way.
@janhanchenmichelsen26272 жыл бұрын
@@MrSupplementScene I live in Norway, beer is expensive. A 500 ml can bland, mass produced pilsner (max 4,7%) in the shop will start at around £2. Craft beers £3-4, and more. Stronger beers (above 4,7 is taxed more or less as wine, Add around 25% or more. So really nice craft beer on the stronger side is around £5-7/500 ml. And far more for very exotic beers. Raw materials for making for instance a NEIPA will be around £ 20-40 for 22,5 l. Mainly depending on hops (can be expensive), and if you mill your own grain or buy a kit. I mill myself and buy my base malt in 25 kg sacks. So a nice IPA or NEIPA, maybe 50 - 70P/500 ml. Then, of course, add electricity and gear. The latter can be cheap, or as expensive as you like. Tastewise, the quality is about the same on any gear if done properly, the main difference is control, speed and convenience.
