I liked it too. It's one of the better designed zones in the whole series. And the Blighttown meme, in case you didn't know before, was mostly due to how abysmal were the FPS drops in this area on consoles originally, and much less so because on top of that the area was also confusing and trying to toxic you all the time.

His gameplay is mostly from the early areas... Except the part with 99 liquid humanity and 13 million souls... It kinda looks like he might have played everything after the early game with cheats... Also note that getting that many souls takes several hours and only if you are close to level 700 is the soul cost high enough for you to be unable to level up with that amount. I have over 1k hours in Dark Souls and my main character is still under level 500...

I have to say, while I disagree with the actual review for the most part, I do find it annoying that co-op is so borked. A friend asked me for some help with Kalameet and we spent more time trying to get the summon sign to appear for them than actually fighting the boss. The password method from DS3 should have been added to the remaster.

The largest change in the Resmaster is stabilizing the frame rate. Blight town used to be the worst area in the game. Not because it was the most difficult but because the frame rate would be all over the place (sometimes as low as single digit fps). Other than that it is mostly just some graphical and lighting polish. Still just those two things kind of justify the price for a lot of people (myself included).

I've put hundreds of hours into the demon soulsborne sekiro games... git gud is understandably frustrating. I cannot fault people for asking for help and then getting pissy when a large group of people just say that, and only that. If a newcomers asks for help, or a simple tip, give them something more. 1:53 Wdym dawg, there's barely, if any pushback against DS, this is the only video evidence you provide and that's not enough to say there's religious hatedom of DS. 2:11 That's because DS ISN'T an RPG, it's not a Roleplaying game, which is fine btw, my issue with DS isn't that it's not an RPG, there's tons of good, GOD tier games that I adore(Deus Ex 1, my beloved) which aren't RPGs even if some think they are. Hence why you liked DS, because it's not a Roleplaying game, roleplaying games have vastly different, what I'd call gameplay formula/gameplay loop from other games, other games primarily focus on mechanics, if it's platformer then platforming gets tons of gameplay mechanics, if it's shooter then shooting gets tons of mechanics etc, RPGs on the other hand focus on providing a player tons of narrative choices and consequences, example being Fallout series(F1,2,3,NV) 2:53 I mean, you said it yourself, I don't get how one guy who seriously believes in concept of overrated games is suddenly gonna act shocked that overrated is a subjective term, hence why I'm not too serious when I say DS is overrated, not sure about that other guy. 3:05 And? Again DS and Souls like aren't RPGs, and even if they were, what relevancy does it have that the game made you like the genre? Do us gamers MUST love ALL genres to be "true gamers"? I assume the answer is no right? So why it's bad to not like, say RPG genre? It's alright dude, us RPG Enjoyers don't mind(we only mind when you call literally ANY game that has skill systems and leveled loot as RPG, STOP THAT, it's so annoying) 5:50 OK now THAT I didn't expect. Also for anyone who played monster hunter, can anyone confirm if the guy is lying about it being harder than DS? I mean, I ain't playing it cuz F these ultra boring hard games but still curious to know. 6:21 It's funny how you say this, in a section with a boss that got several hits on you when you weren't even close to his fat body xd. Look I mostly agree with you, just think a choice of footage was poorly made. 6:35 ... Fair enough. Doom Eternal can feel way more unfair than DS. Here's the difference though, Doom Eternal, or other boomer shooters are actually *fun* their gameplay isn't "wait ages until your boss politely has time of not moving so you can get 3-4 hits and then dodge away and wait". Playing Doom feels like you ARE the doom slayer, having fun, fighting endless hoardes, but playing DS constantly reminds me of irl job, because, like irl, it's monotonous and tons of waiting involved. 8:53 Snake? SNAKE?!? Aah moment. Ok ok you made a good point, that was goofy aah moment from that critique . 12:18 Ok even I have to get to defend DS here, say whatever you want about this multiplayer aspect but I don't see how you can't say it's one of the coolest features of DS, even I have to get DS some praise. Also like you said, offline NPC's are busted so it's fair. 13:26 Again funny how you critique the guy's point "not diverse gameplay" and then your own footage provides evidence of this. How is this diverse and fun gameplay where ALL you do is, dodge a couple of her attacks, poke her with your weapon a couple of times, Rince and repeat. You aren't even doing combo melee hits like in hack and slash games. That's why DS is boring, because DS idea of "challenge" isn't that it's hard to do(Like super meat boy or Cuphead) it's "have infinite patience, learn all patterns and just poke/dodge at correct intervals" wow, so engaging man 14:15 Nah that's pretty bad, that's not even RPG element, that's JRPGs who have grind... hence why unironically, JRPG is more proper term for DS then RPG because DS plays more like JRPGs with all the grind then RPGs. Also what sucks is that if you're underleveled, bosses don't give you extra exp(say X3 more exp)to, you know, REWARD player for persevering fighting a boss with no gear/grind? I'd actually respect DS way more if it rewarded you for skipping mob grind by making bosses give you insane additional exp if you kill them earlier on 15:57 It's not coming from an elitist, but you sure give DS unjust praises, like unironically saying grinding is good. It's genuinely baffling how GRINDING is defended, we grind IRL(unless you're rich via inheritance) why tf would I want to come back from my 9 to 5 TO GRIND IN GAME!?! Again this is why I give Super Meat boy and Cuphead WAY more praises than DS, they RESPECT your time, they don't force you to endlessly grind to try their hardcore challenges. But DS will, you either grind mobs to kill bosses faster or you grind your teeth on boss itself, spending ages chipping away at their hp. Again grinding does NOT make your game hard, Cuphead and meat boy are actually hard while not wasting your time grinding. 16:55 Again, a huge strawman from you while acting as if you're unbiased. Although I do have to admit the guy you critique is bad at making his point, he could've showcases how OTHER hardcore games don't waste your time on grind but DS does and how that makes them more fun than DS because you spend more time engaging in their fun gameplay loop while DS forces you to grind in order to engage with their gameplay loop(boss destroying) 19:30 Riveting gameplay right here btw! Boss does one attack, you roll away, you poke him, rinse and repeat. 21:16 Ngl he's wrong here, you DO have to be praised for beating DS, because of how monotonous it is. Sure it may not be as hard as some other hardcore games but it sure is the most tedious and punishing, by wasting your time, if you get hit and die, good luck doing poking at the boss all over again for 10,20,30 minutes or more. Overall, I still think there's a market for proper DS critique and that guy didn't provide it hence you found it easier to refute him. I really wish someone would have guts(heh) to critique DS. They genuinely looked at the gaming during DS1 times and went "You know games are getting too easy and casual, let's REVERSE the problem and make the game too hard and grindy instead!" No, there's a way to make hardcore game that's fun, engaging and without grinding, we saw it with meat boy, we saw it with Cuphead and we see it with some roguelikes like binding of Isaac(well, mostly, the Delirium is still unfair af and some bosses and enemies are close to unfair)

While locked on if you move your mouse to move the camera, it will also consider you trying to lock onto a new target to the direction you were turning. I got into dark souls when DS3 got released. Up till then I haven’t played any games that were remotely as challenging. up until that point I realize that I was kind of getting swindled for my time just having my hand held through games constantly. I like the fact that FromSoft allows you to lose and allows you to get better. It’s up to you and your individual determination as a player to get better. Otherwise you just wind up being either an over powered build and then the game isn’t as fun, or are you just rage and leave the game. not to mention that the lore and themes are phenomenal, even though I wasn’t necessarily a fan of how it was distributed at first. overall to say that dark souls is overrated this chest either being willfully contrarian, or you just need to git gud

14:18 I think you've always liked RPGs (DS just gave you a window into the genre) because practically all RPGs have a grindiness aspect to them. It just comes with the territory of "higher level mean you get stronger". A lot of people don't like the grind in an RPG and that's what makes people dislike them.

As a long standing fan of Monster Hunter I have no clue what this man is on about making Dark Souls seem like it's just Monster Hunter, but unfair. I do find most Monster Hunter games harder than basically all of the Soulsborne games... Not necessarily for good reasons though. Only recently have Monster Hunter games had good hitboxes, it took them a long time to hone them into what we have in World, and Rise. Anyone who has fought Plesioth in MHFU knows what I'm talking about. I feel Dark Souls does take inspiration from Monster Hunter, they also take a lot of inspiration from Zelda. None of this is a bad thing, they saw something fun and cool, and they made their own game with it's own unique gameplay and innovations. They're not ripping either of these series off. It's not like they named their game "Creature Slayer" with the exact same gameplay loop as Monster Hunter, or "Tales of Zelba" with the same dungeons and puzzles as one of the Zelda games.

The majority of the souls community is really fun and helpful and bonded in shared experiences. I was late to the world of souls and I’ve maybe had one snarky comment made to me along the way. Besides that everyone has been inviting and totally fine. Also, the difficulty of the game was directly inspired by bringing videos back to a time when they were harder and didn’t hold your hand. The unofficial mission statement of the game literally acknowledges this point. Straight from the mouth of Miyazaki himself in countless interviews. Claiming they invented difficulty is not a thing and the exact opposite of what it intended.

I'm not very knowledgeable on the way DSR was put on steam and why it got so much negativity in regards to how Fromsoft took down the original DS game from steam when the remastered came out. I don't remember DSR coming out in a broken state other than server issues which while is deserving of criticism, doesn't negate the quality of the game. I bought prepare to die in 2016 and I remember it being more expensive than 20 USD. The crashing has been non-existent in DSR for me so far unlike prepare to die and increased optimization and compressing the active community prior to DSR with new players who bought DSR into a single game makes more sense than leaving it split up. Maybe it's because I love DS1 so much and is by far my favorite game, but I don't see much issue with taking down prepare to die edition. Only thing I can really think of is that for people who have owned the original version for a long enough period of time, say before the remaster was announced, it could have/should have been free, but even then the increased optimization and having an actually active online player base made it worth it for me. 20 dollars is nothing compared to the garbage that has been churned out by European/American companies for the better part of a decade now.

I actually prefer the remaster as it actually has UWHD support and for some reason DS3 doesn’t and elden ring too. And seeing as Elden Ring has Easy Anti Cheat I can’t mod UWHD support without being kicked offline.

You don’t have to have anything negative to say about something to review it. Now it is probably not a good idea to review something that you have a bias toward. I would never do a review of StarCraft or Gears of War. Because StarCraft got me into an entire genre. And Gears of War, there was a huge storm when the first one came out. And I had to wait a whole week before I could pick it up. GoW was the whole reason I waited outside of Toys R’ Us for 6 hours in November of 2005 to get one…

Have to disagree with the game being fair all the time. The final third is some bullshit (due to them clearly running out of time and the lazy level design) and Bed of Chaos is just terrible on every level and the "downstairs" is actually pretty BS too. But I am nitpicking, it;s mostly just sublime.

first, happy birthday joe. second, i finished this game, which is surprising to me since i rarely finished let alone 100$ completion games nowadays. that alone pointing how good the game is. also i kinda tired with 'repetitive' point of a game is. every game, hell, everything at some point will hit the repetitive ceiling. and it's up to game itself to make you over it and to induce it player to keep playing it, hence the grinding. maybe that's why i prefer sandbox game lol.
@JoeFromSeattle

Every gameplay loop is (by definition) repetitive and obviously the more you repeat something, the better you're going to get at it. Like the gameplay loop of a game can totally be too simple and feel boring or monotonous but it's not a criticism to say a game gets easier with time or you're doing the same things over and over again. That's literally every video game lol

@@JoeFromSeattle "obviously the more you repeat something, the better you're going to get at it." this, even a game which supposedly present you with more problem the longer you dive in, like, factorio, or rimworld at some point will become 'easy' once the player figure out how to handle said problem. so yeah, it's not the game become easier, it's the player 'getting better' at it.

Overrated, broken, barely finished game. Nobody would 'religiously' criticize it if it wasn't defended by zealots. The praise is NOT justified. GitGud does not excuse bad game mechanics. The only two exceptions to this generalized attack are Sins of the First Scholar and Bloodporne. The only souls game that should ever be played on PC is SOTFS. Everything else should be uninstalled until Bloodporne is ported.

Honestly this video is just as bad as Davo's. His video on Dark Souls is terrible, and I honestly expected you to point out that he points out the same criticisms the community makes, which contradicts his point about the series being overrated. But no, twelve minutes in and you do nothing but interject every thirty seconds to make a stupid comment that either misinterprets what he was saying or is entirely irrelevant. Half the time when you can be bothered to actually make a point you can't be bothered to structure it correctly. I mean, for god's sake, the downstairs? It takes under a minute to look up "Dark Souls areas" and look at the different levels. It's just sad, I was really looking forward to seeing someone actually cut Davo's contrarianism down to size, but this video might actually be worse. At the very least Davo structures his points, as bad as they are.

@@overdrivedrinker8284i will come in with an actual criticism, this guy is commenting on the second part of the game, without having played it. Davo is making a consensus critique, demon ruins, lost izalith, tomb of giants etc. are agreed upon as being much worse than anything before anor londo, the guy in this video has the gall to disagree without even seeing those areas. Also, passing the opinion that dark souls revolutionized rpg's while admitting he just started playing dark souls and hasn't played any rpgs is plain and simple parroting opinions, as correct as the opinion may be. This video is indeed worse than the original one, the original may be poorly thought out and plain stupid at times, but at the very least, those were his opinions, this dude on the other hand brings nothing.

I think both of you have good points but this video comes off as pretentious. Is Dark Souls a good game. Yeah absolutely. Is it overrated? Definitely. It has many many flaws and the community does like to ignore those and just say to you "get good" like you did many times in this video. The concept of the game is why its good. But the execution leaves alot to be desired and i think thats what this guy is pointing out. Everyone knows the multiplayer is absolute cancer to deal with and trying to excuse it with "but the lore" is ridiculous especially when learning anything about the lore is incredibly hard to do because the game barely makes sense and you have to go into menus and read alot of shit to understand.

You have immediately gone full fan boy 🤦‍♂️ It's not your fault, it happens, but most people don't make videos answering critiques when they haven't even completed the game themselves. How are you talking about the later part of the game when you haven't even got there yet fgs. For example not blocking ghosts. You cant. Not with out certain things an sometimes it's easier just to YOLO through. Things you would know if you have even got to the bit you're criticising FFS. I have played and completed every souls like, love the dark souls series, yet still agree with everything he's saying. Alot of the criticism like the camera and the later part of the game being weak, are commonly known in the community and widely agreed on. Even the footage of the camera issue you showed, shows the lock on not working and not locking on to the closest target. How do you make such a big deal about that an not realise you are showing evidence against your own argument. Jeez. I imagine you are gonna go full toxic.
