The whole "why aren't you wearing gloves" thing baffles me too. I am a germaphobe too and constantly wash my hands when handling raw meat or gardening, but I also understand most of that is a compulsive behavior.
@danielbricker7204Ай бұрын
any gloves she could wear to protect her would be too thick for this sensative work, and any that are thin enough would likely break very quickly around all the stuff she is doing. as long as your mindful of where your hands are going while doing this work a wash is really all thats needed and the bare hands are way better for it.

How swiftly I choked on your comment, dear friend. I'm no saint, but i did scold my last landlord before having my life turned upside down over a pet that went through hell at their hands. I've now barely dodged 6 months of living in such unfamiliar circumstances: housing, water, much else. God's miraculous guidance was outstanding. He saved me. We need to have humanity. Cheers
@oliverr6925Ай бұрын
If it's a task where it's simply inconvenient to wear gloves (like food service or cleaning) I can understand the whole fuss about "Hey, you should wear gloves!" But this is a task where it's REQUIRED to leave gloves out, because being able to feel texture and skin is crucial to not making unfortunate mistakes and harming another creature. Dogs like Angel don't deserve any more pain.

The shake Angel did at 30:04 is supernatural. A dog who, up until that moment had not been moving even to react to painful shaving and clipping, does something so simple as to shake water from herself. The feeling of freedom to be able to shake like this, finally moving after being motionless and hopeless for so long, going from laying in her own waste to shaking off water. It's beautiful. Life is worth living again for this dog and for we, who were able to see it.

Vet here - I hope other groomers and animal protection agencies watch this video to understand the benefit of washing severely matted dogs to loosen the hair for clipping. Most groomers who do these types of grooms do not wash the matting, thinking it will make it worse, when in reality it helps greatly to reduce the pain of the groom and speed things up. Thank you Vanessa for having such a big heart and helping this lovely lady find her legs and begin the road to recovery.
@ZaDussaultАй бұрын
Yeah, I guess that when mats are starting to form and there's still some loose hair around, making them is worse, but in these case of extreme matting? Water absolutely helps. And if access to soap and conditioner, even better. You can even soak in layers (like do the top, soak again, and so on).

quick question, since the dog wasn´t moving for a long time, would you administer blood thinners like in bedridden humans?
@haplessasshole9615Ай бұрын
@@NyaMoon_ Ooh -- I wanna know the answer to this one, too! I suspect dogs wouldn't be as susceptible to thrombosis, as their extremities aren't as long in relation to their bodies as humans', but I may be way off base. I'm looking forward to finding out.
@haplessasshole9615Ай бұрын
Yes, this makes sense. The groomer mentioned the mats felt "like cardboard." Surely, when soaked in water, the mats would break down, just as cardboard and, more to the point, felt does when they're soaked in water.

@ashmusing6118Ай бұрын
The channel Man's Best Friend has a couple who perform this kind of groom mostly on stray dogs they/organizations rescue in Serbia, and you can absolutely see the teamwork needed. It started with just the man doing it by himself, then he brought in his friend (she's now his wife). Even if sometimes at first glance it might not seem like the partner is doing much, as you said that comfort and petting just helps the animal, which in turn helps the groom.

I've personally never done it; but I saw a groomer helping at a shelter have a quirky way of breaking down these types of mats. She puts the animal in a very warm, soapy bath (I honestly think she uses dawn dish soap) and then uses a waterproof percussion massager pressed against the mats and literally vibrates as much crud loose as possible. She said she got the idea from ultrasonic jewelry cleaners. It does, however, take two people. One to hold the animal still while the other isolates the mat and hits it with the percussion massager. She had a really nice water proof massager when I saw the process, but she started with just a cheap one that she put into one of those water-tight diving bags with the air sucked out.

Hopefully you've shown her not all humans are the monsters her previous captors are.

@-svet-ka-Ай бұрын
I doubt she was used for breeding lately. Maybe at the beginning, but after a point she would not be able to breed or raise pups. All those infections would be passed on to her puppies. And I cannot imagine that anyone would buy puppies in such a poor condition. Also, too many puppies would die before they could be sold. A hoarder sounds more likely to me.

And lets never forget the latest ny story where governor hochul went to the home of the man that rehabed peanut the squirrel and fred the racoon where she had her henchman take these animals/ pets and killed them... her staff probably abused peanut and it bit one of the animal control people. So they euthanized both pets and they didn't notify the owner or follow any proceedure..just took them. We New Yorkers are still waiting to see hochul brought up on charges of abuse, dereliction of duty, and animal cruelty. Im still having a hard time getting the details and outcome of this incident that i believe happened in November 2024. The NY administration has been showing it's true colors of neglect and abuse other than for terrorists the past 4 years plus but now they've turned to people's pets. No one is above the law.

Yeah, there’s a point where neglect becomes abuse, and we’re well past that. Neglecting a dog is forgetting to feed it occasionally because you’re black out drunk or some shit. It’s showing that your priorities are not where they should be. *This* was willful; there’s no way the person didn’t notice.
@tsalVlogАй бұрын
@@AlexofZippo not saying you're wrong; even in the case of sudden paralysis, you ask someone to take care of your dog, but sometimes there's a human who is just as wrecked as chas mentioned, and it wasn't sudden. Again, this is very likely to be abuse, but there are cases where even this might not be the owner's fault.
