Sonic is currently physically comparable to if not above the Titans. Giganto is mostly physical and uses brute strength but still got overpowered by sonic several times. I find it funny when people bring up the golden tanooki suit as an actual possibility. Like, you really gonna tell me Mario dies multiple times just to get the suit. It's very clearly a gameplay mechanic meant to help people who suck at Mario (5yo me loved the thing) And if we're going off gameplay mechanics, Mario would have to die multiple times during the fight because it doesn't transfer between levels. Finally, if we're using gameplay mechanics to include the suit, we'd need to include all the downsides... like dying in lava. Edit: love how everyone feels the need to say "Super Sonic die" even though this was about a single power-up. If I wanted to be technical, if we brought the fight into water, Mario is screwed. Even if we say Mario can't drown, he still goes into a swimming state where he loses a lot of options and is MUCH slower. Okay, so here's my overall take on Mario vs Sonic. It's a lengthy one, so let's lay this out piece by piece. Power: Both Mario and Sonic live in universes that contain hundreds of other infinite sized pocket dimensions and super spaces, as well as both being worlds where dreams are themselves infinite universes, making their respective worlds 6D cosmological structures (I think, admittedly I'm still kinda learning dimensional tiering but from what I've looked into that seems to be the case. I'm probably wrong but my point is that Mario and Sonic live in similar cosmologies). And both Mario and Sonic can consistently defeat beings powerful enough to just destroy or reality warp this 6D universe in their base forms, no power-ups necessary, these are casual low-multiversal feats. And with the Chaos Emeralds and Pure Hearts powering them up, Sonic and Mario each beat beings that were going to destroy all existing universes and/or timelines, those being Solaris and Dimentio. The thing is, for Mario that's basically his highest scaling, while Sonic has blatantly gotten much stronger since the Solaris fight. Infinite was stated more powerful than Solaris so you could easily argue that by now Sonic is stronger in base than Solaris. But if you understandably don't want to stretch that far, Super Sonic 2 exists, a form that bullied The End, a being that considers Solaris insignificant. And Cyber Sonic could obliterate The End with a single attack. Either way you slice it, Sonic takes power. Durability: This is largely the same deal. Both have taken hits from beings that can shatter their 6d universe like glass and get back up. Both have survived having an entire world/timeline consumed around them and were just knocked out for a minute. Both have fought foes with existence erasure hax and came out okay. But Sonic also has an ace up his sleeve, that being that the chaos emeralds can revive him should someone manage to kill him. This isn't a one up deal, more like dragon ball resurrection Speed: This is the most important category for this debate because Sonic is not bound by the speed equation at all. He can move in places that have no concept of time, his speed can undo time erasure, he's traveled an infinite distance in finite time, and broke out of an endless pocket dimension with his speed. Sonic is immeasurable, bare minimum. No matter what crazy, "millions of times faster than light" feats Mario has, he's going to get murder stomped in speed alone if he can't break the speed equation himself. Thankfully there are two good arguments for him being able to do this. For starters, Mario scaling to 6D, or sixth dimensional, logically would mean that he's transcended the fourth dimension which is time, granting Mario immeasurable speed by default. There's also a feat to support this, as in Mario RPG, the plumber was able to beat Culex who was the master of time and space and could consume it. Mario would have to have immeasurable speed to defeat Culex. So we have a logic based argument and a feat for immeasurable Mario. It's not a lot but I say we give it to him, cause again, if Mario can't at least approach this tier of speed, then Sonic would literally be magnitudes of infinity faster. Even still, Sonic easily takes speed. He scales much deeper and more solidly into immeasurable and can easily be argued to go beyond even that Power-ups: Perhaps one of the biggest cases of quality vs quantity. Mario has way more power ups, but the vast majority of them aren't going to make much difference. Super Sonic alone counters the bulk of Mario's moveset, and roughly matches the power of the pure hearts. Then there's Super Sonic 2 who could casually toss around the End that his initial super form couldn't damage. Then there's Cyber Sonic, who one shot both Supreme and The End in one fell swoop. If Sonic busts out either of these higher forms, even mixing all his invincibility power-ups at once wouldn't save Mario. In conclusion, I think the Mario vs Sonic debate is a lot closer than some people give it credit for, but Sonic still manages to take the edge in almost every category, and depending on the statements and feats you accept, you could even argue base Sonic stomps on his own

The literal first thing the player does in the game is regain consciousness from the ass beating Bowser gave Mario. For GamingRift - Mario games are capable of showing changes in facial expressions but it's usually saved for in game. Definitely not as intricate in the cut scene side of things. Now unless you specifically show Sonic being unable to show his expressions in the Nintendo ports only, it wouldn't be right to make the claim of Nintendo games being garbage and unable to render them. Late to the party, but I would like to specify something I am a computer scientist, this makes me partially a matematician The whole "you can surpass infinity in fiction" argument In theory, when studying a function, there is the "hierachy of infitinte", this means some infinites are more powerful than others, a logaritmic is "slower" in reaching infinity due to slowly going up the grapich, while an exponential infinity skyrockets towards the top of said grapich Explain it on paper is not joke, I suggest checking this out or asking a matematician who can show you a study of a function, and translating all of this from Italian to english is not easy But yes, some infinites are more "powerful" than others, this goes for numers too, Natural numbers (from one to infinite) have a "weaker" infinite than Real numbers (all numbers minus the imaginary ones) because yes, from one to infinite there are infinite numbers, but between 0 and 1 there are infinite numbers, it's an infinite within an infinite, and Real numbers contain all infinites, thus making it "a stronger infinite" I really hope I wrote this decently, I will try to explain it even better if questions are asked, and if a matematician wants to correct me, please do, I am a developer and computer scientist, I am better with coding and computers than math

And even thought I can't find the episodes (you can look up clips of them) I have seen him: Go so fast that everything around him is in slow-motion. Clone himself by turning into a clock Open a portal into time itself Eat himself and survive... Survive a blast from Darwin's scream that shatters space and time Have him and Darwin fast foward into the future multiple times in one episode just by using their minds etc. And tbh Gumball isn't even that powerful compared to Richard or Nicole. Richard almost destroyed the entire universe by just getting a job (in the episode the Job.) Nicole is by far the most OP character in the show, and has sent shock waves through the entire town with the snap of her fingers, and took over the world in a different time-line. Looking back at this, it's really tricky to actually assess how powerful the characters in Gumball are due to insane amount of toon force in the show. But honestly, this show is so broken that Gumball could erase time itself just by thinking about it if the writers let him. I would say at most him surviving the Big Bang and him using his brain to go forward in time are his most impressive feats, although I'm not completely sure. EDIT: you know what fuck this

Anyways, I've said it many times and I'll say it some more, having universal durability =/= universal strength, AP, or power. So surviving the Big Bang or Darwin's sneezes doesn't matter at all in this argument since Gumball doesn't have any feats that put him as being as strong as a big bang or Darwin's sneezes. And none of them scale to Richard with a job either, considering he literally one shot Nicole on accident in that same episode. Also none of the feats you listed for Nicole put her near universal, and just saying "she's the strongest in her show" is a baseless and false statement when characters like Hector can literally just flick her across the planet. Just because a character is a cartoon character doesn't mean we should say he can easily turn off the universe because "oh they have crazy feats", when only 4 of those feats are Universal, 1 of them being only in durability, and him not actually properly scaling to any of the other 3. The fourth Universal feat they have is the Console, as it turned the entire universe into an RPG- Aaaand it almost one shot Gumball, Darwin and Anais and they needed a busted item and more busted versions of the characters for them to defeat it. So yes, those are impressive feats, I never said they weren't, but just baselessly calling characters Universal when they barely have any universal feats isn't something I'm a fan of :/.

Honestly, I think this guy just finds weird excuses to simply boost Mario over Sonic, and never once has any definitive proof of it besides a black hole feat which Mario got help for, and then dismissed any claim of Sonic's actual abilities without providing actual proof dismissing them. To kind of use another example using two other popular characters (Naruto V. Goku to be specifically), his argument is him basically preaching "Naruto is better than Goku in any way, and Goku gets one-shot & speed blitzed", which most people, even Naruto fans, would admit that's wrong. Now, if he said something like "Although Goku almost outclasses Naruto in almost every stat, I believe that Naruto does have a chance, primarily due to one notable fact shown a few times in DBZ (primarily with Krillin) and Super (against bandits and a Frieza force member) that while off-guard, his Ki would be lowered, which impacts his defense. Now, normally in Vs. battles, this wouldn't matter as, its a fight, meaning his defenses would be up, but with Naruto being a shinobi, and thereby stealthy, I feel as though Naruto has a very realistic chance to kill Goku via a surprise attack" so in summary, if I had to make this argument, I'd probably say something like "the main thing with Sonic's stats is his speed, which can correlate a lot with his other stats like Strength & durability (although without his speed, he's still impressive, especially in his other forms). However, Mario is more well rounded and has WAY more abilities than Sonic does. However, from what I've been able to find, despite his vast power set, I can't find anything Mario has that can stop Sonic or give him a chance to fight him, much less something that would work on him without needing to aim (due to the assumption that Sonic can react as fast as he moves), I think Mario's best bet is to use something like a Super Star to match up to at least Super Sonic, as seen in several depictions, the Super Star does increase most stats, including speed, which is going to be required (although it might not even be enough, judging by Generations). Assuming its enough to match, it comes to figuring out if Mario is able to output enough power fast enough to beat Sonic, which sadly, I don't think he's capable of".

@ So there’s two ways you can go about it. First you can say that Ian Flynn(the writer of the Archie Comics) said that Archie and Game Sonic are equal. And since Game Sonic has gotten more powerful since then, Game Sonic>Archie Sonic. Or you can argue that in the SGW arc Archie Sonic is supposed to have just gone through Sonic Generations. So SGW Sonic(the strongest pre-reboot character) is equal to a Sonic from Sonic Generations. And in Sonic Forces Game Sonic gets significantly stronger.

Which would've been fine but some people even lowballed it to early sonic villains like metal and chaos. But honestly for what I see from scaling. Sonic forces sonic at the beginning at base form is stronger than 06 super sonic. Which leads to sonic being able to outclass solaris in stats, meaning. Infinite eclipses the past villains. So yes the infinite is the strongest villain statement is kinda of correct when the game itself introduces a lot of random boosts for sonic to eclipse infinite. And for the silver tonki, mario ain't gonna have it most of the time so I don't see why not take the chaos emeralds from sonic as current sonic is already solaris level or beyond it, in terms of stats. Because he upscaled infinite. I'm gonna be probably argued for this. But remember sonic forces has DBS type of power boosts so don't blame me. I'm only scaling from up to sonic forces. And in sonic frontiers, sonic is proved to have immeasurable speeds due to travelling cyber spaces, so that means the immeasurable speed feat in generations is proved to be true, sonic has immeasurable speed. That was my scaling for sonic but for mario, idk much so I hope I get accurate scaling for mario instead of hybrid highball mario at me, I just want the correct one.

Cannot Mario and Sonic fans just coexist? Like, both loves platformers, with one centered about exploring, discovering secrets and challenging your skill and the other reinventing itself every games. mario is not that type of guy that seeing a character powering up would make him run away , mario is shown to be completely determined and head in his game as he didnt back down against bowser after he amped himself with grand star , he didnt even back down to bowser after he used the star rod to empower himself for the first time and mario can keep up with sonic speed as he could react better to bowyer arrows attacks that not even geno who is way faster than mario in speed couldnt even react the arrows at first encounter , mario when facing jinx he went from not even fathom jinx speed as jinx belittles mario to mario making him sweat in matter of 2 rounds in game and this level of adaptability to mario is enough to contend with sonic

I... really just saw this pop on my feed and thought I'd leave my two cents as politely as possible, if that's okay. I'm a huge fan of Sonic the Hedgehog and his games, and I also really enjoy Super Mario and his games; although I did not reach the degree of being a Mario fan since to me all the Sonic games are my preference, though I definitely have a soft spot for games like Sunshine which is close enough to Sonic Adventure, and of course Super Mario RPG looks like a triumphant game, but I haven't played either the remake or the original. However, if nonsense like that is what keeps their names relevant, I'm very happy that Capcom knew better by not making Megaman Legends 3. At least Megaman is resting in peace instead of having his name tarnished on the internet like that... Hope you all have a wonderful time and come to coexist one day.

17:28 - Bro did NOT play Super Mario World Not only are you not forced to use the Tanooki Suit against Bowser, you're forced NOT TO because it isn't even in the game. Heck, in Mario 3, New Super 2, 3D Land, and 3D World, the four Mario games with the Tanooki Suit, you can also opt to just not use it. Iirc, the only Mario game where you are FORCED to use the Tanooki Suit is Paper Mario: Colour Splash, and that's against Ludwig and the 'Canon in Sea Major'.
