It's a pretty dumb argument. Talking about players happens all the time and showing their preferred pronouns is a quiet and non intrusive way to make them be known to the people who care to respect them. It also helps out commentators who may not know every single player in the tournament (tho if it was only for them they could just look up the pronouns before the match or ask). Not gonna go in depth into the political implications of this argument and its track record in recent history, but yeah, it's a pretty bad argument.

The thing is to Hbox (and to almost everyone else) I’m sure it appeared as though the players decided to do this as a joke-to go against that would have been ruining the “fun.” But then when the player is upset, Hbox can’t be like “wait you weren’t playin’?” If so many people are getting upset about a word, maybe it should be entirely banned from use during the stream of your tournament. I agree that he most likely saw this as the players making a joke of it, and that is reasonable to think. However, he was the man responsible for that stream, and thus, professionally, he is liable to comply with the standards of that community’s guidelines. He is not just a player or an individual in that moment, he is the one in charge, thus the one who has to make decisions that impact the players and viewers. And he laughed it off and seemed unbothered and it was on screen for as long as it was.

I can't shit on Hbox too much because I also thought it was a troll. I did think it was weird the pronouns were on both sides. I think 1.5 minutes was a decent amount of time to react. I'm not a producer, so I can't say I'd do a better job. Learn from your mistakes, and don't let it happen again. If it happens again it's a different story. That being said, Hbox is partly responsible because it's his tournament. Punk has every right and reason to be upset. As adults though, they should at least talk it out.

The issue with hbox is that he tries stupid hard to be "cool and hip with the new age" with like a almost cringe way of doing it. He probably put LOL just to like "fit in" with chat laughing about it and immediately assumed that punk did that to be funny for some reason. It would explain why he just suddenly didn't do anything about it till later. Hbox 9 times out of 10 would more likely join a bandwagon meme train then do some proofreading and be the better person. I don't watch him anymore for these reasons either.
