BE-WARM-ED, the cold air, and hot furnace air both wreak havoc on our skin and hair, so we need to focus on hydrating and moisturizing! In today's video, we will be going over some budget-friendly solutions to keep your dry curly hair AND FLAKEY ITCHY SCALP looking and feeling its best this winter! I have also partnered with Eva NYC for a portion of today's video because I love a lot of their hair care, especially in the winter, so without further ado, let’s get to it.!

Your rants are welcome, Mell. They let us know we are not suffering alone. I must admit, I wanted to call my hair stylist and schedule a chop off of all my hair just so I could avoid the hour long and longer hair care routines! Hopefully you can feel the love from your fellow curlies. Have faith...Spring is coming.

Mell, winter BLOWS. GET IT OUT, GIRL!!!!! I think you have no idea just how much you have helped so many of us. I've begun pree-pooing with oils and what a difference on my high porosity dry damaged hair, as i have watched it transform from a hideous monstrosity, to some actually livable lovable curls! It's def made a difference in my wash days and the final results! I love texture Tuesdays sooo much! This is the only channel I religiously watch and have gone through as many as I can to learn the proper way to care for my wavy curls!

I was just telling my mother about getting a humidifier for her dry skin (psoriasis), and dry hair issues!! But she is SO hardheaded because I tell her, at nauseam that her clothes/dish detergents, hair products, soaps, etc., ALL with fragrance btw, are the culprits!! I tell her that it drives me crazy when people believe that having fragrances in everything in their environments is good when in actuality, manmade fragrances along with, dry air and heat in the Winter, could be the causes of their constant sinus issues, headaches, respiratory issues, etc!! Hopefully she listens this time!!🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Maybe one day when her curls are looking great (before playing a show or something) compliment her and ask what she uses as a way to start talking curl care & products. Ask what her favorites are & then maybe you could mention favorite gels and make a comment like "My curls won't behave without gel! They either get frizzy, flatten, fall or all 3 unless I have gel or mousse to actually hold them in place" idk something to that effect. If she doesn't seem interested in the Convo then you could just drop it, or even laugh it off by saying something like "sorry, I have a weird obsession when it comes to hair products, I forget that some people are actually normal" Just a couple thoughts if you were trying to find a way to mention it🤷🏽‍♀️

@@VengefulAngeI That’s a good way to say it. I had asked an older lady with curly hair what she used and she was highly offended I even asked her. But I think this younger gal wouldn’t be so uptight. I’ll try what you said. Thanks Jenn Leah.

@@alicesings1971 you know how we all talk about skincare? I’ve asked older ladies about what they use and some will just shake their head like “No.” I think that’s the generation that didn’t support each other. The younger generation cheers each other on. That’s why when someone compliments something of mine I usually tell them where I shop or humbly tell them I made it. I’ll show a little mistake I made but I’m happy with it kinda thing. I never want to keep that “everything’s a secret” culture.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for doing your research, having the facts to back up your claims, and continuing to further your education. I recently stumbled on a different channel that was the opposite, and doing things that made me cringe (calling once every two weeks "frequent washing,"), and because her hair was fine and it worked for her, that was all the proof she needed to consider it a fact. And there are people following her going, "Oh wow, your hair is so (fill in the blank), I'm going to try this too!" I may or may not have been arguing with the screen...

Last year, I was almost panicking with all the hair fall I experienced in the winter. This year it is even colder and my hair is showing the signs of seasonal change. Thanks for this video. I needed the reminder to deep condition my hair and not be afraid to use a richer moisturizer. I have thin and fine hair...very different from your or Amanda's type hair. But I still need extra moisture for conditioning and I have been using only gels vs curl creams plus gel for styling and holding my curls in place. I found adding in Curlsmith's Full thickening lotion to my routine is helping with volume without drying my hair or further weighing it down. I use an oil after diffuse drying my hair when breaking any cast and at night.

Curly people, just wanna say that moisturizing your hair adequately is also super important for longevity in the winter. I used a bad leave in conditioner for my last wash day, and my hair felt bone dry and more frizzy than usual on day 6, when my hair usually takes MUCH longer to get to that state (think day 8-10 or even longer). IT MATTERS WHAT MOISTURE PRODUCTS YOU USE!!!

Literally the underside of my hair is breaking off. I run my fingers in there and it’s snagging. This is so helpful. My curl pattern is much looser but I get the tangles, my scalp is dry and itchy … I can’t do as long without washing. It’s frustrating and makes me want to smooth it straighter 🤣 just so I can braid it and leave it alone. This awesome black woman at my grocery store mentioned I should use hot oil treatment. Even though our hair genetics are much different - I think I need to do that a few times this winter cause I am suffering over here.

I almost leaned in and did the squishy sound with my mouth when Mell said she wanted to hear ours 🤣🤣. I need to start doing more oil treatments. Mell, what do you think of clove oil?

I grow my own rosemary and infuse it into grapeseed oil, love scalp massages, but don't love how my scalp is oiler sooner between washes. Any advice is welcome. (Best thing about CGM was teaching me to use my hair dryer on high heat, high speed "against yer skin." :)

I love the Eva NYC primer! I use it in summer for UV protectant if I'm going to be outdoors, sometimes I use it on line day 4 to lightly mist my curls and then I just smooth my hair down with my hands & it helps bring back shine & smooth frizz, & I like to use it in the morningtime on my washdays (I wash at night), because it helps me dry finger detangler after I let it sit on my hair all day, especially those tangles at the nape of the neck!

Does it have silicone?

@@jessg.829 Yes, but it's just 2 volatile ones that evaporate & are only used as carriers for other ingredients. In this case, as a carrier for argan oil & sunflower oil to make them lighter than they already are 🤷🏽‍♀️
