Can you do an episode on what you might consider to be the 'toughest' run to a Champions League title? I would argue that Inter defeating the defending champions and champions of Spain (Barcelona), the champions of England (Chelsea) and the champions of Germany (Bayern Munich), denying Bayern their treble and completing their own in 2009/10 would sure be up there - at the very least one of the most underrated European titles ever.

2004/05 definitely one of my all time favourite seasons. Bolton did have an interesting team back then! Former Real Madrid players like Hierro and Campo, Jussi was a great keeper, Okocha was quite flamboyant, Speed and Nolan in the middle, then the physical Davies up front.... Thought Djorkaeff was in there that season, but seems he left the year before; he was great. Big Sam definitely did squeeze every bit of talent out of them...

@@steveforest8385 the staggering thing is not how many points Forest stayed up on, but how low they can theoreticallly stay up on. 27 points or 26 points on a better G/D. The 2022/23 Championship promoted cohort was the single weakest triplet in Premier League history. The previous lowest total points tally for the 3 relegated teams was 76 points. This year's was 66 points, 10 whole points lower.

6 - Is the minimum points required to survive in the Prem, assume there is no point deductions. This is possible when all bottom 4 teams always lose against every top 16 teams, and matches between bottom 4 always getting a draw.

I analysed all this data either last year or the year before because I was interested in the question: Is the number of points needed to survive going up down or staying the same?
@markchambers3833
@markchambers3833 Жыл бұрын
If I remember right, that was a particularly poor season with loads of teams at the bottom such as Palace playing negative 4-5-1 formations. I haven't looked at the stats but my vague memories of this season are that there were a lot of draws and the teams at the bottom were particularly low scoring as they focused on not conceding goals. It was pretty grim as I recall.

Since the PL became 20 teams in 95-96, there's been a gradual decrease in the number of points needed to survive from an average of 39.5 from 96-99 down to an average of 33.75 from 20-23. The figures are based on a team finishing 1 point above the relegation places.

The Lee Hughes case is very interesting 🤔. Footballers do end up doing jail time like everyone else and so weird to me how Mason Greenwood didn't get a trial
@markchambers3833

Maybe because Hughes caused the death of a man and fled the scene, leaving two other people seriously injured without medical attention. Whilst there's insufficient evidence against Mason Greenwood and no-one outside the people involved - including you - has the slightest idea of what really happened. Hope that clears it up for you.

That relegation battle was immense. Norwich winning all of their last 4 home games including Man United and Newcastle yet failing away even when it was at Fulham who had nothing to play for. Palace beating Liverpool then drawing every game. Southampton snatching last minute winners and equalisers against Norwich and Palace respectively but finally going down. And West Brom. Never underestimate Paul Robinsons last minute equaliser at villa a few weeks earlier. Also, there was a point on the penultimate game where West Brom were losing at Man United and Palace were beating Southampton. At that point they were relegated. But Earnshaw equalised from the spot and that late Southampton goal whilst benefitting Southampton also massively helped West Brom in the end.

Crazily enough, this record could have been tied this past 2022-2023 season by Leicester if Everton didn’t win their last game. Even if Everton drew, Leicester would have finished above Everton on goal difference and survive relegation on 34 points. I’m pretty sure Tifo was paying attention to this also, hence the posting of this video after the season concluded.
