When you buy the Apple adapter, get the one that has the extra port so you can plug your charger in while using your iPhone/iPad. It costs a few but more but it’s totally worth it.

Great video Justin! I have the DTX502 and I just wanted to mention (you did mention the Ipad briefly), that I don't have an Iphone but I do have an Ipad and did use the app with it, so you can use the Ipad. I do have to say, once I set it up I really didn't use the app or the Ipad after that. Once I had my custom kits made, it was kind of set it and forget it. I really don't have to fool around with the module much and if I do it's something minor.

*Update* I'm hearing the DTX502 app has been removed from the app store unfortunately. But in more positive news, the Rec N Share app has finally has an android version of the app. By the way: the Rec N Share app doesn't work for the DTX502 module, thats why I had to switch to the EAD10 in the middle of the video. Rec N Share works with all the newest generation of Yamaha modules like the DTX402, EAD10, and DTX Pro. I'm sure upcoming modules will all be compatible as well.

Just checked the iOS app store (I'm on an iPhone 12 pro on iOS 15) and the DTX502 Touch is still available. The last app update they released was a couple months ago so it does look like they are maintaining it for the time being at least (fingers crossed). I'm thinking about replacing my old DTXplorer module with a used DTX502 so this app would be a game changer to use. On a side note, I really appreciate all your videos, they have helped me tremendously in understanding the world of E-drums. Rock on brother!

Thanks for the review, Justin. I was looking for an electronic drums set earlier this year, and I ended buying a DTX532K. As I cannot make much noise, it works fine for me. But, I miss a real hi-hat... Anyway, I think it is worthy to buy the adapter, it makes everything much easier. To choose and customise the kit is much faster. I will try Rec'N'Share to see how it is. There is another app from Yamaha called Song Beats that is more like a practice video game kind of app, if you are interested in making another review for Yamaha. Congrats for the channel!

App editors should be a no brainer for e-drum companies. Yamaha did well with the 502 app, but maybe they should have one app for all of their modules in which you can select the model and it modifies the settings available to you.

The adapter is worth it and you can find it much cheaper on amazon. I use the adapter with my EAD10, DTXM12, and DTX502.

Great vid- really enjoying my 502 module and picked up an ipad2 for under $100 a couple months ago to use the app - really makes the features in the module more accessible. Also, I got the adapter for about $24 off Amazon and any usb cable seems to work. With a mic stand tablet holder it really bumps up the ease of configuration for the set.

I have the 502 module, but. Use Android so don't use the app. After you learn how to use the module it's pretty easy. The module is capable of making some pretty good sounding custom kits. I'd be interested in seeing a video of you playing the 502 module.

Nailed that USB on the third try) classic USB rule 😂. BTW, I'm using rec'n'share app w/o having EAD10, it's features are really awesome and helpful, especially that slow down and loop wherever section you'd like. Also app actually saves all those song changes. It's just an amazing stuff! Sadly I can't make it record within this app and my old dtxpress 4. For the basic low budget recordings this EAD is good enough. Thanks Justin. Looking forward for future series about it

Accordingly to www.srstaging.com/dtx/forum/2106-rec-n-share-for-dtx502 the rec-n-share app does not work with iPhone with dtx502 module. I first bought lightening to USB cable which worked with the 502 Touch app but not rec-n-share. I then tried the Apple USB camera adapter - neither is able to detect compatible instrument. It would have been nice to mention this since video does talk about DTX502 module and Rec-n-share app together.

Hey Justin keep up the great work very informative stuff. Wanted to ask can Roland RT30HR dual trigger work on the Yamaha DTX502 module? I have the 502 interested in he RT30HR for snare use. I don't like the Yamaha dual version for the snare. You actually gave it a average review and like the RT30HR better.

Do you have any advice on "Rec N Share" not recognizing, or finding mp3's? Example, I download a song in Apple Music..not sure where it's stored on iPhone and yes I have Dropbox, Rec N Share shows "Zero Songs" in all menus. So I tried Android and Spotify..same issue.

I've been working with Rec n share since i started playing again. The click track RARELY works, and since ya cant separate your kit volume from the music, it mskes things extremely difficult. How do you remove songs you've already played? Not your recorded songs, the songs that were linked from dropbox? I guess EAD, and Rec have been a blessing. Ya can't do any post editing, besides volume, so if you want a good take, it has to be perfect. I've yet to use it on Android, as the click works on my Android. So to remedy this, I'll have one set of 215's with just a click from Android, and cans over the 215's with music coming from ipad. Do you have a better solution, especially for the IOS click track?

I tried the rec n share app with the original Apple adapter but it says connect an appropriate yamaha device. So the 502 will not be accepted. The 502 control app works fine and i made an upgrade of the firmware with it

DTX502 Touch app is discontinued. Be carefull buyers. Yamaha throw away the app for this module. I bought this module 2 years ago now a basic feature lost. be aware.
