Would you drive a car built by a teenager in his parents driveway with no safety features whatsoever? We did, and now we'll tell you why this ugly RX7 is so brilliant.

cameron humphries I didn't touch the rotating assembly but did a custom billet cam along with all the other top end goodies right down to the pushrods. The T-5 held fine but it was a light car and the smallish tires meant I didn't shock load it too hard from a stop or anything.

Anyone else have nostalgia when they come back and watch this video all these years later? I remember when this video first came out. I was a kid, I was watching Motortrend's Roadkill, and I couldn't wait to have a car of my own. This video showed me you could have something so unique and cool with little money required, as long as you had the motivation. I showed it to my father, who like his grand father, loved vehicles and had way too fast of cars at way too young of an age by building them themselves. He had a blown mustang gt by senior year of high school... until he wrapped it around a tree (he made it, looks back at the memory with a smile) I was so excited to have a follow up with Corbin, to see where Matt and the rest of the crew took this channel. I loved the desert videos with the crazy red Ford prerunner, too. But I feel like this channel completely fizzled out. Not even that, it went out like a candle being blown out by the wind. Nothing left, not even a smoke trail. I wish they would have continued to create full length content to the same degree that they always had, as well as the pay-walled content on their site. They had so many create personalities here, with so many great artistic videos. Videos like Fortnine's, where they looked at the soul of vehicles, rather than just the sum of their parts. I wish this channel was still what it was, with who it was. I guess nothing stays the same.

This kind of shit just straight up turns me on. I drive a rusted up, clear-coat-peeling, paint chipping, warped rotored, piece of shit V6 F150 that I bought for $500 cash, and it's one of the most fun vehicles I've ever driven for just a few reasons: A)Manual Transmission means I have the control I need to eek out every ounce of power the V6 has to offer B) No weight in the ass end means this RWD POS can drift and do burnouts on a moment's notice (especially in the snow) and C) I can thrash the ever living shit out of it without worrying about being out to much money if I fuck something up royally. I could literally scrap it for about 70% of what I paid for it. The idea that I can bump into a wall/sign/lamp post/whathaveyou and barely notice the mark on the bumpers that are literally solid strips of rust across the front and back means I can focus on the drive, and not the charge at the autobody shop. Meanwhile, yesterday my dad had an outdoor power strip fall from a high shelf onto his Legacy and he got upset at the little ding that you can only see when you catch it in the light just right. Don't get me wrong, I love a good looking, sexy, pristine car, I just don't know that I want to drive one.

This car is cool because it's about the feel. You don't need 500-1000 hp to have fun. Everyone gets caught up in who the fastest is when no one cares who is having the most fun. And that's what the internet has done. Fanboys of every loyalty sling mud at each other in the form of G force, top speeds, 0-60 times, and lap records. Fun cannot be quantified, so there's no point in trying to argue with it. It's the reason that people would rather spend $50,000 on a stock SS Camaro from 1976 rather than a brand new SS with modifications. It's what those fanboys don't understand. A true car enthusiast cannot decide on their favorite car. I've bounced around from classic muscle to modern JDM to classic Euro to modern Euro to classic JDM to modern muscle so many times in the span of a short week. Honestly, I'd someone offered me any car in the world right now, I'd be evenly split between a 1971 E-type, a 2008 BMW Z4 M coupe, a 1997 Dodge Viper, a 1967 Corvette Stingray, a Datsun 240Z, an R34 GT-R, and a Pagani Zonda F. It's too hard of a decision for a true gear head. That guy who will always argue that Corvettes are the best or that GT-Rs are the best doesn't et the point, usually because they've never owned one. There is a fun factor. So the next time you're at a car meet, remember that a 1999 Honda Civic with $5k in mods could be more fun than a $250k twin-turbo Gallardo.

Joey Bien a rotary will never last as long as a piston engine dollar for dollar. yes, fewer parts, but there's a reason only Mazda gives a shit about them. and then there's a bigger reason why Mazda only puts them in ONE car. Plus N/A is wayyyyyy less maintenance than forced induction. what this kid did was perfect. Side-note, since the car was in a ditch, and had to be driven home, that crappy rotary was probably already toast.

I appreciate you and think that you are a great wrench and I'm proud of you and what you've done. I used to take my red Z to the Rock Store on weekends. I'm old now and finally gave it up, I still have my 82 1000cc Katana in the garage in Costa Rica. I've done those canyons a hundred times and have some wonderful memories of days gone by. I love your ride and I respect your wrenching abilities. Have fun cause life goes by very fast. Trust me.

This the most logical comment I have read on this video. I respect this persons talent to take an broken down car and make it powerful and fast again. There are many ways to experience happiness in this life and one of them is to do what you love. If that means to take a piece of junk and fly down the beautiful roads which were built by our own people than you should be be able to do so. That is why this person is such a pioneer of spirit and creativity.

I had a '84 RX-7 and it was fast as hell. My neighbor had a '68 Camaro he was always tinkering with to try to make it faster. One 4th of July he pulled up beside me at a stoplight and asked if I wanted to go. I said sure. Light turned green and my RX-7 dusted his ass for a good half mile then we had to stop again for another red light. I asked "wanna try again"? He just shook his head saying no. I once got my car up to 125 mph and it felt like it was going to lift off the ground and fly at any second. I had another friend who I worked with who always bragged about his ricer (Honda CRX I think)...anyway I dusted his ass too one day leaving work. He never talked shit again about my car after that. My Mazda was the best car I ever owned and it had the best stereo system in it around. I was perfect except for being hard to get in and out of since it sat so low. I still have dreams that I'm driving that car and I am all cramped up behind the wheel and can hardly move which would be the case nowadays too since I weigh 90 lbs more than I used to.

Most high performance cars are built for or by middle aged men. Even if they're total hoons, they've usually grown up a bit even if it's that juvenile delinquent feeling they're chasing. It's refreshing to see a truly juvenile car, built and driven by a juvenile. He's a punk kid in a rich neighbourhood pissing everyone off with his angsty dangerous car. It's got that feel that punk bands only ever achieve with their first commercially successful album, when they were all still fucked up teenagers. I love it, and it reminds me of my first car I built when I was 21, or at least how I would have liked my first car to turn out. It would be contrived for me to attempt it now 10 years later.

This is honestly my favorite youtube video ever. i watch this repeatedly. his thought process on this RX7 was something I'd like to emulate on a project car of my own. This video is the definition why I love to buy project cars over any factory race car.

This kid should make a career out of building rat rods, because that's pretty much what he did to that RX7.

pekka it was FUBAR when he first got it, he got brought it back from the dead. If anything, he did the exact opposite of ruining it.

I bet a lot of people are looking at this and say "what a hack job" and yet, that's how cars were once made, in Japan they still do this thing just like this. And it's the best kind of fun you get with or without your pants on.

A friend in HS had a car with a wooden helicopter he made in shop class bolted to the hood and a Tim Hortons mug cup holder on the roof that would hold his cup of coffee at highway speed. So he drove everywhere with a coffee mug on the roof, reach out to get it, take a sip and put it back on the roof while driving down the road.

+Corbin Goodwin In Tennessee, you can drive around without a hood, or doors, and while it's technically illegal, you can drive without a windshield too as long as you've got safety glasses on. There's no state inspection, either. The people here just don't give a fuck.

When I heard "V8" I automatically assumed it was an LS (like a lot of V8 swaps I've seen in FCs and FDs), but it's a Ford engine... Considering Ford and Mazda's relationship, something like this could have been mass produced. I could totally see Mazda sending mostly completed RX-7s to the factory they used to share with Ford in Flat Rock for engine installation.

If nothing else, respect the massive amount of time, work and energy he put into this, not for the sake of anyone but himself. Set out with a goal in mind and accomplished it, giving zero fucks along the way. Nice fucking job Corbin, I don't care what everyone else in the world says, that was a badass ride.

For safety, cars are engineered within certain limits. Size, power, wheels, brakes and so on. This car goes FAR beyond every single rule of mechanical engineering... Like a skateboard with an attached 20 hp engine. Fantastic !
