NOTE: at 1:27 What I meant is tat it's much faster to INOCULATE the bag with a syringe than adding Agar. But Agar colonizes MUCH faster than a Spore or LC Syringe.
Speeds - from Fastest to Slowest:
1. Grain to Grain (G2G)
2. Agar to Grain (A2G)
3. Liquid Culture Syringe (LC)
4. Multi-Spore Syringe (MSS)

The Fast Track:
If you have a LC or Spore Syringe, you can go from Grain to Harvest in about 22 Days!

Anyway would it be possible to take some mycelium from a cake and transfer it to colonize a 90 second bag like shown here ? The cakes are hot they got full shot of iso spore was not live culture. Hard to find good ones as well when it's legit experiment for the better of humanity. Anyway thank you both, I'ma keep going!

you’ve done an amazing job here of simplifying a complex scientific process into something anyone can understand and do at home 👏👏 which is not easy, i applaud u for doing the most important work for civilian science. my tip: adding boiling water to your substrate or rice before adding culture (let it cool not to sterilize your spores either) is a great way to pasteurize/sterilize any possible contaminants that could kill your crop! obviously you pulled it off anyway, but for those seeking insurance :)

@KitchenMycology
@KitchenMycology 9 ай бұрын
Don't cover the holes. After S2B, there's not a big contamination risk. Best to put them in front of a window with INDIRECT sunlight. Don't cook them. And you don't want the humidity to evaporate too quickly. You'll get to tweak it with a day or 2 of testing.

You can use Ziplocs to colonize your grain the same way as shown, but when you Spawn to Bulk, you'd need to use the Ziploc as a tight grow bag and cut a few X into the bag so the Mushrooms grow out of those X-cuts. You won't use the gallon Ziplocs as a Tub. I've done it with Lion's Mane and Oyster Mushrooms too. Also, I show Spawning to Coco Coir. You'd use Hardwood Pellets.

This is great, thank u so much. Here in argentina its almost impossible to afford commercial bag teks, this makes my first grow experience much easier and affordable. I just wanted to ask how should i esterilize the grain and the substrate, should i make it on those ziploc bags or in glass stuff and then put them on the ziploc? I dont know if the plastic would melt and screw up everything, if u could help me with that would be great, thank u! Pd: ive just read that ziploc bags generally can be up to 450°C and i think that the esterilization is around 120°C, hope it works haha
@KitchenMycology
@KitchenMycology 9 ай бұрын
Ziplocs melt in the Pressure Cooker so you have to sterilize grain in jars and then you dump it in the Ziploc. This way, you don't have to modify the jar lids. Ziplocs are sealed and sterile in the box. This Fast Track video is just a short compilation of different lessons. I have very detailed video lessons in my Patreon, but here's the Popcorn Tek video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJ_EgH6Qq8yEha8 Hope this helps!

You don't have to sterilize the rice or the ziploc bags. The rice from the 90 Second rice bags he uses in the video are already sterile. The inside of the ziplocs are sterile, too. Just need an SAB to do the transfers. As for the coco coir, I would definitely sterilize that, though. I've only gotten contam when I didn't. Good luck.

For the Spawn Bag, Yes. For colonizing grain (the small Rice or Popcorn Ziploc, I cover with Micropore Tape). Just like you see in the video. Think about it: Do we cover any Vent holes in a Shoe Box or larger Tub? No...

1 bag of spawn to 1 quart of substrate ?
@KitchenMycology

I do 1:1 parts Spawn to Substrate. Eye-balled, not measured. 1:1 is a bit safer against contamination. You can go 1 Spawn to 1.5 Substrate easily.

@@ItsCheechFool They say all sorts of things 😂 - It's a race against contamination. The more Substrate compared to Spawn, the slower the colonization, so nasty stuff has more time to breed and out-compete your mycelium. So you'll have to pay more attention to humidity etc if you choose that route. I've settled with 1:1 to 1:1.5 myself, but it's a personal preference. Different strains have different needs as well...

@@ItsCheechFool The reason I like small Tubs is that if a Big tub gets Contaminated, or has some other issue, All your eggs are in one basket. If you have 4 shoe boxes and one goes bad, you have three left. Also, shoe boxes, or Ziploc bags are much easier to harvest than a huge tub. But again, it all boils down to personal preference. I've been having fun with Spawning to Gallon Ziplocs. It's so easy and humidity control is almost set it and forget it.

DON'T shake it up after inoculation. >> Also after you burnt the holes, did you cover them with micro spore tape? ** No, after Spawn to Bulk, you need plenty of Fresh Air Exchange (FAE) and it's not as prone to contam. I only cover the Rice/Grain Ziploc with Micropore Tape immediately after inoculation. If you don't, you will get contamination for sure. I go into all the details in my Full Course on Patreon.

@KitchenMycology 6 ай бұрын
The more the merrier. 😜 Depends on how much Agar you're comfortable with using. I always have a lot so I do the extravagant amount of one whole cup per bag or jar. But if you don't want to be wasteful, use 1/4 to 1/2 cup per bag/jar.
@ItsCheechFool

The whole cup? I thought just a piece ?
@KitchenMycology
@KitchenMycology 10 ай бұрын
Some people just use a few pieces of Colonized Agar to Grain. These cups are larger than Ketchup Cups, so you could do half a cup. I have plenty, so I use the hole cup. It Colonizes the grain in 8 days or even faster. If you use a few pieces, it'll just take longer. Also, using more Agar and colonizing faster, gives little time fr competing nasties to grow in the grain. It's a give and take - balancing act...
@KitchenMycology

Also, you can inoculate the first rice bag with Agar or LC/Spores and then use that bag to inoculate 10 bags with Grain to Grain. G2G is VERY Fast too.
@thorny3218
@thorny3218 9 ай бұрын
The more mycelium you add the faster the results. So, In theory yes you could use a sliver of agar but why? It’s so easy to make. I used to slice my agar up before inoculation but it’s not even necessary. Simply save a step and add the whole thing to the grain. Less chance of contamination and you can simply shake the grain once the mycelium starts to take hold. It will distribute that way.
@KitchenMycology
@KitchenMycology 9 ай бұрын
@@thorny3218 I've seen people ddo this. Drop the whole thing in there... I've never done it myself, thinking that the smaller the chunks and the more spread out they are in there the faster it will colonize. I see your point about less chance for cantamination. I have to experiment and see which one is better.
