For your love is a good song but Eric Clapton left the Yardbirds after that. I thought there best songs were, Heart full of soul, Over Under Sideways Down and others so many. And to think they had 3 of the top 5 rock guitarists of all time. No all at once but at one time, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and later Jimmy Page were in that group.

@@garyrasberryjr.552 not exactly. Argent and White wrote the majority of tracks. They had a Lennon/McCartney writing credits arrangement. Ballard also left in 74, and the band continued without him. Funny story: The Zombies are an excellent English band. In the late 60s an unscrupulous promoter hired Frank Beard and Dusty Hill, two Texans from the future ZZ Top, to tour with a couple other guys as The Zombies and make some money, figuring nobody knew what The Zombies looked like. This was before MTV. It’s all true! The Zombies joked years later that maybe ZZ TOP could return the favor and they could tour as ZZ TOP and make some money themselves.
@johnanderson4132
@johnanderson4132 Жыл бұрын
that is funny. I saw the so-called zombies when they were touring and shortly after was told that that wasn't the real band but I never knew they grew up to be ZZ Top. funny thing is, not 5 minutes ago, I told the commenter who said the zombies recorded their first song by winning a battle of the bands and the prize was a chance in a recording studio. And I told her that that was the most informative comment I've ever read not 5 minutes ago. and then you come along and tell me this which is even more interesting. at least to me. thank you for the info

Three members of the band, Rod Argent, Paul Atkinson and Hugh Grundy, first came together to jam in 1961 in St Albans, Hertfordshire, England. Argent wanted to form a band and initially asked his elder cousin Jim Rodford to join as a bassist. Rodford was in a successful local band, the Bluetones, at the time and so declined, but he offered to help Argent (Rodford would later join in 2004 when the band reformed). Colin Blunstoneand Paul Arnold joined the other three to form the band in April 1962, while all five members. The Zombies formed in the London suburb of St. Albans in the early '60s, and didn't actually entertain serious professional ambitions until they won a local contest, the prize being an opportunity to record a demo for consideration at major labels

Jim Rodford later became the bassist for the Swinging Bluejeans, The Kinks, (25 years) and finally joined his cousin in the Zombies, along with his son, on guitar, until his passing. Both an excellent bassist and vocalist!! He was immortalized in the Zombies song, Friends of Mine, listing couples in the lyrics...they're the final couple, "Jim and Christie".

@lonbecker113
@lonbecker113 3 жыл бұрын
One of the interesting things about the Zombies was the way most of the songs about love had a twist. Even the song "I love you" has him admitting that the words don't come out when he's around her. But others also involve singing to friends. "I don't wanna know" Has him telling his friends to stop bad mouthing his girl. But "She's not there" has him blaming his friends for not warning him about what she is like. Here he is warning his friends about what she is like. Some have him unable to get over his girlfriend, bit Remember the Swan" has him regretting that when he sees her he now feels nothing. Perhaps their oddest has him waiting for his girl to return after some time away, in prison. The shame of the Zombies is that they broke up when their amazing album Odyssey and Oracles (almost every song on that is worth reacting to) failed to sell, only to have it take off after they broke up.

You do know that they re formed in the I think in the late ‘90’s and still tour. They have done an Odessy and Oracle tour. The album now does sell well an is highly acclaimed. They are in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame. They in fact stole the show in their induction year.

@@angelaackerman8934 I was lucky enough to see that tour, but in the '60s they were writing Beatles quality songs, reforming thirty years later is not the same thing. Thank you Jamel for featuring Zombies, Animals, Kinks, Spencer Davis Group any many other great British bands from the 60's. This was the Golden Age of Rock IMO .Now, PLEASE check out the Small Faces (1965-69), one of the biggest, most talented groups from this period. Many people request Tin Soldier and Itchicoo Park from their later years, but I think you would love their earlier music when they were an energetic, rockin little R&B band. Two fun videos are from the German show Beat, Beat, BEAT in '66 - "Whatcha Gonna Do About It" or "All or Nothing". However, I think you should listen (no video) to "You Need Lovin" since you are such a big fan of Zepplin, who used SF version as inspiration for "Whole Lotta Love". Page and Plant were HUGE fans of Steve Marriott. In fact Page asked Steve to be the vocalist for LZ. Steve said no, so Plant got the job. I appreciate your consideration, I know you get tons of requests. But I think that Small Faces would fit right in with this 60's theme you've been dipping into. Great job!

This song/band are way before my time, but they are one of my favorite bands and this is one of my favorite songs. My parents have always said I was born in the wrong time. Lol.

'Had this song on a 45 rpm new when i was 14 years old. Wore it through to the flip side. Thanks for playing this sad and beautiful melody. It always felt to me more like he was speaking his heart out into the wind than he was actually talking to his friend/rival.

Written by Rod Argent, there on the keyboard, as many of their hits were. You really must get back to the band Argent. You loved their 'Hold Your Head Up' and you'll also love 'God Gave Rock and Roll To You' and many others.

Fabulous hearing this song. My Mom played it all the time when I was a little girl.

Thank you Jamel for trying all these great songs that I would hear my father play. You will love: She's Not There by The Zombies

The Zombies started when they were kids. All except the bass player are still teenagers in this video.

'64!!!! These guys were so far ahead of the Invasion pack, no pop band had this sophistication at this juncture. Rod Argent's jazz inflected styling, coupled Colin Bluestone's, singular, breathy soulfulness...their harmonies and underrated rhythm section also needs to be mentioned.

Love your work Jamel. Would love to see a reaction to 'Friday On My Mind' by the Australian band The Easybeats that was also released in 1964.

@@AdrianDeVore Thanks for that Adrian, I had looked at a page that said '64. Just reading on their Wikipedia page it states a Oct '66 release in the UK where they recorded the album. The release in the States may well have been '67. Cheers.

I was in 7th grade when I first heard this. And I thought - if zombies could sing, THIS is what they would sound like. Colin Blunstone's vocals were haunting and... kind of cadaverous.
