19:35 There's actually an incredibly minute difference on this page that doesn't appear on the path of obtaining the bunny ears. For whatever reason, when Oswald mentions how Netflix and KZbin exist in his time, he also name drops TikTok. TikTok was originally exclusive to China but was released internationally in September of 2017. Since Oz started visiting Freddy's in June (months before the September release date), that means that this story must take place in 2018 at the earliest. About the "Aging to his 40's" ending, assuming the story takes place in 2018, he'd be 43. While the wording is ambiguous enough to apply all the way up to 2024, I think the exclusion of the word "late" implies that he's earlier in age and not on the cusp of a new decade, which, to me, excludes 2022 and beyond. That being said, this is the only mention of TikTok in the entire book, even on the page it was copied over from. Did Scott not want to include this? Was it just an editing mistake? I'm not sure. Personally, I was always under the assumption that the original story took place around 2018/2019 as that's when it was written/released, and this development only furthers that belief. Either way, #DownWith2023

There's definitely some repetition in the pages throughout. I recognized the "empty well inside you, but you are also inside it" segment from 15:45 as having also appeared in Part 1 of the playthrough at 42:00. Definitely agree that the paths in this book so far don't seem as original as those in The Week Before.

I think the problem with this book is that it is an adaptation and the other 2 books were original stories so they are more structured around the choose your own adventure format
@TiredMoonRabbit6 күн бұрын
I'm pretty sure that this book just operates how most choose your own adventure books do, the week before was an exception because of how it was formatted, this book allows you to make the same decision if you should be capable of doing so, that doesn't make the book bad, also in some routes you are obtaining different objects with different affects later in the story but doesn't effect the immediate path.
@AbsolXGuardian5 күн бұрын
Yeah. Most cyoa books have looping sections, if you reach basically the same destination from different paths. They'll also repeat passages on different sections because unlike in a visual novel, it's much harder to slightly vary text. As well as having different large branches. The week before was basically six different smaller cyoa books together. Ryan North's Shakespeare cyoa books do the same thing, and those can't be spin off cash grabs.

The idea of using the same 'game over' pages for different scenarios *could've* worked if it was, like, an exclusively Pre-Pit Thing. Like, to demonstrate the dullness of the town and the 'Groundhog Day' of Oswald's life, even the Game Over Scenarios feel limited and repetitive.... But of course, for this to work, it would have required the book to **stop** doing that sort of thing as soon as Oswald goes Into the Pit (TM).
@AshyMuted6 күн бұрын

@FTZPLTC6 күн бұрын
Yeah, I don't think it's that - it's just trying to kinda railroad the player into taking the "right" path to get them to the actual story. Some of the old CYOA books got around this by having a prologue section before the first entry with an actual choice, so you could read that once and then skip over it in subsequent playthroughs... but if they did that in this then it'd be a REALLY long prologue. So instead they've kinda put choices that don't matter in the prologue.

3:15 This easter egg hints at the insanely erratic nature of GiBi's being in comparison to the rest of his cast. We know an average human reads a sentence in a typical format - the same as the sentence is presented, meanwhile others may simplify sections for audience simplification. Due to this unique quirk along with the new insights on Remnant, emotions and the nature of supernatural entities within the series. I believe we can come to a conclusion on what light this easter egg shines on the grand darkness that is GiBi lore... ...GiBi might be a little dyslexic at times

Thoughts on why the book feels so bad: So far the canon path is just the original book. Thus the repetitive/short 'wrong' paths are boring. Although we knew how TWB ended, the actual content was fresh. This feels like a longer way to read the original. Think it would be best if it had some longer running 'alt' or 'bad' routes instead of quick death scenes. The time travel with middle aged Oswald and the clown doll were the most interesting things so far sinply because it was new.

Also the writing feels weaker imo. TWB got me a lot more hooked since you had thoughts Copelia, the job, parenthood, etc, Oswald is very one note.

13:39 I'm currently being tormented how the reference to tiktok ruins my timeline, but then you read the old version of the line from the original book here. I went and checked my copy, and the its the same scene twice, just with the first paragraph different depending on if you chose the bunny ears or the flashlight. That's pretty standard for cyoa books, but now I'm even more confused. Why does Oswald only think about TikTok if you chose the flashlight? You can get the canon ending either way, it just changes which bad ends or detours are possible. Its pages 40 and 105. 31:23 It may not help with Fnaf3 debates, but it does make this part of my life worse 36:14 My theory is that Eleanor is the games version of trilogy!Baby, a body Henry made to hold Charlie as an adult. In the gamesverse, he was just unable to suceed. This actually supports my theory, as this would be young child Charlie's body. Not Ella, but the one she was in during the MCI, being controlled by/basing its personality on Eleanor. My reading is that Oz never makes it out of the pit, and its trying to simulate the 80s outside of Freddy's without enough information to go on. That's why time jumps forward in the other path. So its spawning in the one other thing it knows about 1985, that this body was supposed to be Charlie at the time.

I can see why the reuse of entries in this is annoying. They used to have to do it in the old Fighting Fantasy books (which were a bit more linear than the CYOAs but also generally longer), but that was to conserve space and keep the book to a manageable number of pages. I can't think of a good reason to do it with e-books. It does seem like it happens less as the book goes on, so maybe that opening section is just about railroading you to get you to the start of the story without it feeling like you're not making choices?

The various "use the pit at the wrong time" paths involve a run-in with the rabbit in the pit, either following you out or meeting you in the pit. Almost like the rabbit is also using the pit, and they are running into each other (i.e. the car crash on the road that barely sees any traffic)

I feel like you’re being too hard on the book. This format is how typical choose your own adventure stories go. It may feel different for you because we already know the story of into the pit so there isn’t as much original/novel material as there was in VIP and the week before.

In theory I actually like going back to some of the game over scenes and reusing them, it thematically works with the idea of a dead end town where nothing happens and in choose your own adventure stories I like that some things feel inevitable. But almost every choice that’s not canon being like that is so boring and obviously jsut railroading the player to make the “right” choice. I used to read teen girl romance choose your own adventures and most choices even if it was bad lead to a unique storyline that but sometimes you would arrive at the same path from somewhere else. I like a mix

I'm not sure, but The Week Before has a few loops and passages copied onto different sections. It's standard for interactive novels. In a visual novel video game it's very easy to just vary a scene by a paragraph or even single word, or have A and B both lead to C while still making the player feel like the choice between A and B are relevant (and perhaps it does set a variable that will be relevant later). It's only different in an interactive novel because the player can see all the seams.

Kinda disappointing to see you be so negative here... It's not criminal to dislike something obviously, but throughout this whole video it just comes off like because you got a bad first impression, you've written the book off as "bad" based on that, and now there's nothing it can do to change your mind. Like I get the sense that no matter how quality its writing is now or later, you'll ultimately decry it as a waste of time - which makes me wonder what's even the point of you finishing your readthrough 😭Calling it lazy is especially uncalled for imo
@Im2lazy4thisCrit3 күн бұрын
People are usually a lot more vocal about media when it does something wrong, but when everything is pretty good then we take it for granted, despite subconsciously having a good time. I think Gibi enjoys/enjoyed this book at the time, and didn’t actually hate it or anything, it’s just that whenever it had obvious flaws he would point it out, but he’s not just gonna stop reading and say “Yeah I like the story so far” and keep reading, it’s just not really normal for people to do. I’m fairly certain he’s enjoyed the book at this point, and wanted to keep going, otherwise he would’ve said something about the overall quality of the book like with Laps. I also don’t think calling it lazy is a big deal, at least depending on how you do it. Copying and Pasting game overs for different paths is inherently lazy, since the alternative would’ve been writing something different, which is inherently more work. No matter what way you slice it, it’s lazy. That doesn’t mean the book is bad, it’s just that the writers took a shortcut, because they’re human. Admitting that doesn’t mean you’re a hater of the book, it’s just you saying how it is. Just like how me saying that Scott using a stretched out jpeg for the office in FNAF 1 being a little lazy is just a little tease, and not an actual complaint to take seriously.
@Im2lazy4thisCrit3 күн бұрын
Also I don’t know how Gibi reviews things but if I didn’t like something despite not even being halfway in, I wouldn’t want to base it’s quality and all of my criticisms on that experience alone and just not make it to the end to see if it get’s better. This isn’t IGN.

Some thots: 1) Oz makes a point of mentioning being able to see the people in the rubber suits in the Godzilla movies. And then makes a point about not being able to see anyone inside the rabbit suit multiple times. So that's confirmation that pit trap is an agony monster and not William. (not that we needed more confirmation of that). 2) In the sequence where Chip finds Oz in the present (which seems to imply the pit is areal time travel?) Chip says there was some weird time travel stuff in 1985. The only two years that are significant and before 1985 are 1983 and 1979 (secret of the mimic.... THE MIMIC). So is that supposed to be a mimic reference? Was the whole point of this series to tie the pizzaplex/mimic arc back to the MCI arc? Something I will be keeping an eye out for in the next book. 3) When we escape outside and get lured to the basement by Baby/Plushbaby/Elanor, is this saying the sister location bunker is beneath the Freddy's location Oz is visiting? Is this the FNAF 1 location, since it's where the MCI happened? (I mean, the ball pit could have been moved, I guess). Maybe not, if this is a different continuity than the original games. If it was just PlushBaby fanservice why put it in the basement of Freddy's (like a cellar really, it seems like it's only accessible from the outside). I know people have speculated about SL being under one of the Freddy locations or the original Fredbear's location. And people have been speculating about the original Fredbear's being one of the FNAF locations as well. Not sure if there is a there there or if this was just fanservice. If Frights is canon then Elanor is a 21st century construction, and this is in 1985, so it would seem this is Baby/PlushBaby and not Elanor. If this book is canon and Frights is not, then Elanor may not even exist in this continuity. Also, I guess this places Baby as being made before 1985? 4) "you're feeling very bunny" Is this a bunnycall allusion? Getting big bunnycall vibes here. 5) If the pit is actually a time machine, then the author has a narrative device for establishing/introducing new things that flesh out the story of the MCI back in 1985. If it's not a real time machine (something something agony something something), then it's more or less just a neat story in the shared FNAF multiverse - it was a narrative device to give the author some freedom to tell a new and different story, and maybe doesn't have deep lore implications. The way the events in 85 change Jeff's in the game version seems like it suggests it's not real time travel (the doors to the arcade would have been fixed in the 20 years since 85). But the sequence with Chip in this book suggests it is actual time travel in this book (which possibly is canon to the game series because of The Week Before?). 6) something something secret ending something something arcade theory something something "Everything that happens out there, has an effect here."
