Love seeing people discover this incredible band. They have a large deep discography that's full of amazing songs. Steven Wilson, the creative force behind this band is now a solo artist and his solo stuff is also well worth diving into. You really can't go wrong with any live track from these guys. Some of it is spacey and psychedelic. Some of it's heavy. All of it is worth a listen.

holy crap. I JUST got into this band, totally by accident. "Fear of a Blank Planet" was playing during the end credits of an (ironically) X-Box game called "Control" - ran to get my phone and Shazammed it. Can't get them out of my head. That was a month ago. I haven't been THIS happy since i first heard Kings's X on "Gretchen Goes to Nebraska" - and that was over 20 years ago.

Funny story. A few years' ago, my wife and I went to see Porcupine live. She's not a big fan but I am. The gig was over 3 hours long and their first track was 40 minutes long without breaks. My wife said she was going to the toilet. I got absorbed in the concert then there was a break of ten minutes. I looked around for her but couldn't find her so I figured she was sitting at the back somewhere. I watched the rest of the gig and then left. My wife was sitting outside on the steps leading up to the venue. I said 'how long you been here?' She said 'since they started. I got thrown out for smoking in the toilets'. :)

@-belue-66974 жыл бұрын
To me, this song is EXACTLY describing what it is like to be in a major car crash..."ARRIVING SOMEWHERE, BUT NOT HERE!"...It hit home because I was in one years ago and it really described the sights, sounds and feelings before, during and after the crash...Even hearing the music on the radio and thinking if that was the last sound or not...but then there were so many other sounds in the song as well that described the crash, not just the lyrics...The violent guitars as the crash and the chaotic atmosphere surrounding the crash mixed with the serene sounds in the music and how both sounds tend to go back and forth as if you are almost in a weird other world were you don't understand you are really in the moment, but the violent guitars kick in and another part of you is in the chaos of the moment...It's as if you are weirdly numbed (literally for me and metaphorically) in between a peaceful place outside of yourself and an atmosphere of chaos...almost as if nothing is really happening, but everything is happening all at once...and the time signatures of the music slowing down and speeding up and switching between the peaceful, otherworldly sounds and the harsh, violent, chatic guitar riffs... There was even a part describing being in the hospital (I think the person in this crash had some sort of surgery...something about the heart and cutting)...I was just taken to the ER at that time (but that's neither here nor there)...the song also describes the after effects in life and in your own body of said car accident and saying things like, "My life is simplified" (in a way it is and it seems to be, but it's not simplified as well)..."My dreams are comprimised"...Things like that!... Yeah! I feel like the song lyrically and sonically/musically, is describing the very experience before, during, after and going forward through life being of a major car accident. ✌️🤘🖖🙏🏽... This song was VERY well put together and the singer (the guy who sang ROUTINE...Steven was it?) has a very cool voice and way of putting a story together and his choice of notes and tones of voice was very well thought out and sounded nice...He can sing for sure! The music was really good...The shredding guitar was very cool and the dreamy, slower tones were great as well... In some ways this singer with his solo work and Porcupine Tree remind me of THE POSTAL SERVICE. Gives me a similar vibe and the music and story-telling in some ways feels similar, but also unique to each bands own sound...I saved this band and his solo stuff on my music Player...because it's good AND me and my dad love THE POSTAL SERVICE and while they are two different artist and sounds, they give off a similar vibe and I'm positive my dad will dig this artist and band...Me and my parents connect over music, so this will be cool to show my dad cause he misses THE POSTAL SERVICE and this is right up his alley as far as that type of music is concerned...Also, his FAVORITE band is PINK FLOYD and this is different, but a similar vibe as well...Also reminds me of GOTYE (if anyone has heard more than just his main song and how artistic and vibey his other songs are in a similar way)...Not that it matters to anyone really 😂😋, my dad is just older, so cherish the good times when you can. 😊...it's cool to find good music you can share with others and bond over... Music brings people together and makes you think or just jam out and have a good time and I think that's cool. 😎😎😎... Yeah, that was quite an essay! If I was back in school...A++ cause I totally hit the word limit! Go me! 🤣... Also, if you got this far 😋...check out THE POSTAL SERVICE or GOTYE (if you haven't already! 😋...I'm new here, but I liked your reaction...I dig reactors who are just open to music in general and have sincere reactions. 😎)...Their popular songs are good, but the rest of their songs are quite artistic and GOTYE is or was an art school student in university so his music videos are REALLY creative as well...If you like Porcupine Tree...I'm sure you'll like THE POSTAL SERVICE and GOTYE! 😎😊😎

I know this thread is old, however if you really want to hear the best of PT and Steven Wilson I recommend you start with their back catalogue. Listen in date order. You’ll see the progression. There isn’t a bad album. Steven Wilson does a lot of re-engineering for many bands and if you can find his old PT albums re-engineered in 5.1 listen to them. After listening to all the PT albums then listen to Stephen Wilson’s solo stuff. Every album is a trip. He uses the best musicians and he is an auteur in regards to music creation. Best advice - listen to the physical CD/dvd/Blu-ray/vinyl through the best headphones you have or through a 5.1 system with loudspeakers. You won’t regret it. Streaming won’t do it justice. Then once you’ve heard all the studio albums listen to the live ones 😂 Then you’ll be a SW stan.... 🤘🏼
