VINTAGE RESELLER VIDEO | LOOKING BACK AT IDAHO ANTIQUE CENTER
Today's flashback goes to the terrific antique mall I show on my Fall 2019 cross-country trip! The Penske rental truck ends up a lot fuller after this sojourn, and those who haven't seen the original video will likely share my amazement about some of the truly unusual and unique things Boise's Antique World Mall offers.
Handmade Georgian jewelry pieces that are one-of-a-kind items two centuries old vie with genuine Civil War insignia and an Erector set train from 1931 as significant things not generally found in antique malls. Coverlets, quarter sawn oak furniture and other true antiques make this a special place worth seeing again.
I try to spot different things as we go through the video than we highlighted the first time, a task made easier by the sheer variety of collectibles found in this large vintage center. Boise has grown by leaps and bounds since 1960, so mid-century modern collectors also find fun and unexpected things, from a cute and funny bank placard and a light-up picture to a filing cabinet that features every 1970s designer color all in one piece!
Besides showing a new perspective on an old video, this flashback also allows me to fix a few audio problems that make watching this version a more pleasant experience. Enjoy the tour!

George, you are a wealth of information. I learn so much from watching your videos. My heart skipped a beat when you showed the sterling silver spoons. One had my daughter's name "Lydia" engraved on it. I would have snagged that one. Thanks for the virtual shopping trip!

Love these flashbacks! I often wonder how many of the items in these videos are still there. There was a ring of old furniture keys there I'd love to have. That enamelware stove was fantastic. I've always wanted a 1920's/1930's kitchen with one of those and the old free-standing cabinets. The minerals were really nice! I especially like the green ones. That Miriam Haskell necklace looked like something a pharaoh would've worn. Thanks for this!!!

I wonder that too! My guess is half because of all the closures in 2020. I also would like to cook on a 1920s stove once! I’m glad you enjoyed looking back with me

Wow! I have two tea boxes that were handed down to me. I’ve never looked into them. They house my dads Pictures. He was a photographer in the Navy. He was 19 and not a supporter of combat. I’m interested in why you want to sell a surfboard George. Is it the finding in the wild or a truly vintage one?

@starquant
@starquant 3 жыл бұрын
In reply to the pink trains. I imagine they never sold because a/ Parents never would spend that much on a daughter. b/ She would never been given the opportunity of choice, so if a young girl wanted one, I highly doubt she would have received one as a gift. To blindly say they never sold because girls didn't like them is a sweeping generalization without taking into account the prevailing misogyny at the time. You're talking about an era when many believed even educating a girl was a waste of time, beyond learning how to cook and sew. A daughter was always the "wrong gender" and "commiserations" at the birth and "don't worry", your next one will be a boy. We have all lived through this, please don't forget this was a huge reality for many young girls at that time.
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad 3 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry to say that’s all true, my birth mother speaks of her childhood that way. However, Lionel test marketed it after the fact and the girls (no doubt due to gender stereotyping) thought they weren’t meant for girls and rejected them.
@starquant
@starquant 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheAntiqueNomad I wonder who they thought their test market was, because most of the girls I knew growing up would have loved one 🤔. It did get to a stage growing up where you were excluded so often on the grounds of gender, you stopped asking if you could come along or join in and were mercilessly ridiculed or chided if you dare ask why not. Once that part of subjugation had sunk in, it was all downhill from there. I desperately wanted my own microscope when I was around seven and was beaten quite savagely when I was caught playing with my older brothers. My brothers always got the best toys, the most expensive, the best quality, the best of everything when I think of it. Girls were nothing more than a problem to be endured, that eventually got handed onto someone else when they married and then they became "someone else's" problem. I have never ever forgotten that attitude, that came in so many different forms, but alluded to and meant exactly the same thing. Guess that makes it easier for people to treat you like crap when you are denied your own Humanity.
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad 3 жыл бұрын
@@starquant that’s horrible but piquant and makes me sorry you had to endure such a thing! I’d like to think that most people today understand there’s talent and interest among all types of people and everyone should have the same opportunities. I’m grateful that your generation helped right this
