A year ago, I was watching Pokemon Sun and Moon, the last episode of the show, I got inspired by all of the character's dreams to improve their lives and make the most of the time they've got by doing what they loved, that was the last daylight saving time, I feel like this is a renewal time for me because I have slowed down in some areas where my consistency was sharp, this video showed up on the day I was going to make my biggest change, which is today, I have lots I want to do with my life and I can't keep myself held back any longer, I have companies I want to create, medals I want to win, lives I want to improve, I'm making it my OWN LIFE POINT to change so I can change the world the way I want, no more holding myself back, it's do or die! I guess there are differences between cultures and individuals. For me, having someone to whom I have to show my progress, be accountable to, makes me feel like I'm doing it just to tell that other person, not for the sake of myself. Thus I'm more likely to lie or manipulate the truth when being accountable to someone else, whereas I could not do that to myself.

This is THE BEST advice about discipline and consistency I ever seen. I've been applying it for 2 years now, and it rarely failed me. It works better if the person you are making yourself accountable to, is someone who you greatly admire and look up to, rather than someone who you love and feel comfortable with. Hm... I understand, but some advices here goes on the contrary of certain rules I've seen in "48 Laws of Power" rules... Most of the time, you must keep your goals and aspirations secrets, and not talking certain things to people at all, keep them to yourself, because you never know, your today's friend or partner or even spouse, can be your enemy of tomorrow, and also, you must be confident enough to be able to rely on yourself and not depend on others to check you. Accountability is a great concept or quality, even more when you are to yourself and don't need other. Me ? I speak in front of the mirror, and talk to myself harsh when I said I'd do something and finally happen to didnt. But thats just me though, since most on the time I must only rely on myself.
@fammnak8523 жыл бұрын
cmiiw but for me I apply that particular Law of Power you mentioned at a work/professional environment. I do work towards my 'goal' in discreet. The accountability partner I saw in this video for me is more like my boyfriend, my family, or my (trusted) colleague, basically someone that I am okay to be vulnerable with. And also depend on how I much I trust that person and what KIND of goal. The goal in the video would be something like wake up without snoozing or exercising or stop watching youtube something that we tend to procrastinate the most

how about being your own accountability partner? i am shocked that no one mentioned this in the comments. as a person who has self-image issues, anxiety and depression, i have a problem of heavily relying on other people's encouragement and validation to get anything done. however, when my support system is unavailable or simply absent, unwilling, or inconsistent themselves, i have no motivation to better myself or get to work. i am lost, i am alone. therefore, i have decided that i should respect myself and my progress first and more than any other person in my life can so that i don't give my 100% per cent on things i cannot fully control, like other people's attention and encouragement towards me. i find it much healthier to work on the reasons WHY you proscrastinate and self-sabotage before making other people your rock. this would save a lot of disappointment and fix some behavioral patterns that cause the trouble in the first place. THEN you can find a support system and make other people your rock. interesting video, but i think you missed a huge point.

You make a really good point. For someone to be a valuable accountability partner, they need to be both invested in you and your goals, and also have the skills and capacity to hold you accountable. Finding someone that ticks all of those boxes can be really hard, but it's SO worth it. And the more power to you for trying to be your own accountability partner right now. I had to do that, but going it alone made the journey take so much longer. Know that there are people and coaches out there that specialize in showing up for you, so you can finally show up for yourself. 😊

I like the video, but I would never do that, I would never put myself in a position of being accountable to others. I know that works well for many, but I do not want to be held accountable to anyone else but myself. If I can't get it done then it just won't get done. I'm a very independent person. There are drawbacks to being accountable to other people.

I think I also have one which I don't see in other videos. So if you start an activity that you know you do to procrastinate, you need to assign a reason to it, or if you can't then you mustn't follow through with it. For example when you open up your phone and tap on youtube, ask yourself why you do it? If it's not a very sound reason, put down the phone and place it somewhere far from you, and do your task that you have to complete

Having an accountability partner can indeed be transformative for your productivity. It's really important to keep in mind, however, that not everyone benefits from external accountability. yeah. I prefer to write down a thing and put it somewhere i can see every day so i am "accountable" to that commitment and cannot forget it. Once it starts feeling effortless and forms a habit that requires no willpower i can change focus to another thing i want to form as a habit. Even though you could argue willpower is like a muscle that can be trained, other and the easier way is to lessen the willpower required. Habits do break too from time to time, but then you can focus at it again and picking it up is faster and easier than it was before, in my experience. These can be anything from making your bedbin the morning to going to gym or studying at least 1 hour without interruptions every day. To conserve your willpower make decisions ahead of time. Plan your week and day, what time you are supposed to study, when you go to gym, what you will eat during the week. This way, if you put your plans onto paper it becomes a chore that requires no willpower to do, because you already agreed to yourself to do said tasks beforehand. This way you don't waste your willpower arguing to yourself if you are too tired or not to do it.

Good video : I'm always trying to improve (but not succeeding too well)...and I REALLY see what you're talking about having to tell OTHER people (those that you value - that's important) why you haven't done 'it'. Embarrassing - when I think of excuses to articulate - that really don't put me in a good view! MUCH easier to tell yourself that something 'got in the way'. (that's my favourite I'm afraid) Accountability Partners : I'm going to think about how to get that going for me. Mmm, has to be someone whose opinion I value.... When I am consistent, it's WONDERFUL - and I feel sooo much better - so anything that can help is very appreciated. Thank you for this -for me - so timeous advice. ******

I'm not a huge fan of the video in its current form. It has some good advice but could (and should) be built on. The technique is extremely effective if you want to achieve your goals, but misusing it can put you in a place where you're depending on accountability to get anything done, it's also very fear-driven which is simply not a great or healthy way to go around things in the long-term. What I'd recommend doing is implementing some accountability mechanisms in your life, but refining this technique not to be fear-driven but one that helps create a better YOU (not your achievements), build up the discipline and personality of a person who does their best for himself and the world - or whatever are your motivations - not for any external validation.

When I was living alone I was able to be very consistent - I was working on business development I was running for 2 years and cycling for 5. But then I've started relationships and married. Since then my ability to be consistent wore off dramatically. However, according to this video, it should have improved. What's happening? No, my wife isn't a slacker, if anything she's more disciplined than me.

idk.. I feel like even my telling my silly excuses to someone isn't enough to motivate me, I'm in much deeper than I had thought.

This doesn't work for me, because for some reason i really don't care what others think about me. I don't really know why that is, but i have a hard time trying to learn to care... I don't respect autority, not even police. I did go to a psychiatrist and was diagnosed with bipolar desorder, general anxiety disorder , and besides being and HSP (it's like a sensorial sensitivity think idk hahaha) , i still don't care about others impression of me. Acctualy i preffer to stay alone and do not wanna make friends. But none of this really explains why i lack fear of moral jujgement. Maybe is because i don't like being around people anyway...

Accountability Partners are great for _motivation_ *But Terrible for Discipline and therefore Long-term Consistency* Here's why: *You have to develop Self-Discipline to conduct yourself in the best manner alone, without the need for other people to push you to set your own life straight, that is the only way to be consistent long term, through your daily deceisions and actions, that add up over time.* You are telling yourself you cannot accomplish your goals on your own, that you are capable of doing on your own, without someone always there keeping track of your life or be on your case for your personal decisions. If you are in a group or always around people, that can work for periods of time, but for true long term consistency, for years in a row, there can't be an excuse or set of conditions that break your system down. You will be alone in in most critical periods of your day to accomplish your priorities. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Eventually *you will be alone for a long period of time*and you *will* feel weak and insecure because you have leaned on other people to get priorities in your own life done. But training your mind to harden and developing Self-Discipline doesn't happen over-night, change happens over time, step by step and day by day. I know from personal experience that trying to rush development beyond my capacity on consistent basis doesn't work long term. Your life is a culmination of all actions and decisions over time, and you can't completely remake your life and you who are immediately, but you can change direction in life immediately, keep going in the best direction , or at least a good direction, gaining momentum the more and longer you keep going. How hard you push yourself each day depends on how high you aim in life, and fully intent to achieve in actuality. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Realize that your subconscious mind directly resists changing your life for the better ( but not for the worse) and will play tricks to convince you to forsake what's good for you for what's has the most pleasure for the least pain, instant gratification. But that also is the time to show who you really are, when you are by yourself, and what you need to change, improve, and develop within yourself to do better. Your daily personal decisions added up decide your life, or rather "You decide your habits and your habits decide your life" Mere Motivation wears off, while can be great of supporting and reinforcing habits, and perhaps getting people started in habits. But motivation isn't infinite, our dopamine receptors get de-sensitized (so you get less bang for more buck motivation-wise), so I recommend a dopamine detox either when you feel motivation is wearing down from the same activity or on a weekly basis for a habit. Andrew Kirby and Alex Becker have great videos on dopamine detoxes. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more knowledge on this, I recommend either reading or listening to _The War of Art_ and listening to podcasts with *David Goggins* and his book _Can't Hurt Me_.

Honestly just push yourself two or three months and then you get into a routine. I am currently forcing myself to work more and now it’s doesn’t hurt or bug me anymore. My best goal is to start workout and eating healthy but I have to push 2 to 3 months so that I can achieve my goal! Lol

Then your body and mind get use to it. You have to have a goal. For me is saving enough money to see the beach and a road trip. I want be healthy enough to drive and not feel 😷 sick. I also want pay off my debt so that I can move out eventually or live in a van. (-: so everything has its place in life. You just have to push until you think it won’t end. Once you accept that this is your life now it’s easier to stay in that situation.

I spent 1500 dollars for a coach. When it came down to crunch time, I couldn't stand the idea of answering to another man. Scrapped the entire thing and lost all the money. Super expensive lesson. This works for obedient people who care what people think about them. For the few of us that answer to no one, we have to figure out what makes us move. I'm believing that it has something to do with converting the work into a perceived passion through unorthodox paradigms.

Amen to that! Reliance on coercion through accountability feels like the main reason I've felt stuck since childhood: accountability is always attached to something I have to do for survival/external validation, else risk being a disappointing failure not worth anything. It may make me consistent but it also has a great chance of making me resent the thing I went through all the trouble for.
