Great interview. The interesting thing is that both evolutionary and traditional astrology believe that a natal chart shows things that are predetermined, so they actually agree on this main point. They simply differ on the cause of it. Karma vs. fate/gods. They are in fact the same thing. We are the the ones who created our karma, that now shows up as ”fate”. It is simply cause and effect, and like Steven said, habitual tendencies, that accumulates karma. I think it is definitely important to study astrology’s roots. There is some evidence that past lives were simply assumed during Hellenistic times; Plato’s Myth of Er etc. But it is so much easier to ”blame” the gods and fate, than to take responsibility (good or bad) on something that we can’t remember doing. It seems completely strange, unfair and ”unscientific”. But yet, there it is. Buddha, upon his enlightment, did remember all his countless lifetimes to the smallest detail. Just because we don’t remember, doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

Great work Chris and Steve! I am an astrologer myself (based in Sweden) and long before I got into astrology, I was an student of reincarnation. I'm 46 years old and started studying reincarnation when I was 18. When I started to seriously study astrology 7 years ago (after being an amateur for many years), I then started seeing a co-relation/connection, so to speak, between the birth chart and the theory of reincarnation. I totally believe in reincarnation today and consider it in my readings with clients. I always find it to be very viable. Therefore, I consider myself a witness of reincarnation as a valid truth both in my personal life and as an astrologer in my work with clients. So far, I can say that I could never go back (as far as reading charts or personally) on the fact that we bring with us a luggage contentaining residious from previous lifetimes. It is indeed reflected on the birth chart! Loved the interview. Well done!

This is one of the episodes that pulled me reluctantly back into astrology where I want to joke about how it’s too short while leaving a 100,000 word comment. Forrest is very great and I enjoyed the interview and I don’t mean this negative at all; it’s actually emphasizing his point. If we need to evolve our charts to remove negative chart traits, isn’t that the same good vs bad religious conditioning? It’s just something I playfully smiled at listening to it just because it is hard to not think of things this way while also understanding what he really means when he says it. The toxic reads he’s discussing is actually one of the very first experiences I had with astrology and ironically a big part of how I was raised because my mother hated Leo’s and I’m a 12th house Leo sun Mercury. Seeing that the first time it was interpreted as a karmic punishment for harming others with my ego while I didn’t exactly see it that way. The more I looked at my chart with this weird “what?” response (it’s gorgeously harmonic while being extremely difficult with the Devil in the details) I also felt that’s the exact chart I’d choose if I was born into this life. I feel like everyone should read their chart with this familiarity and I view the universe as amoral where we choose what experiences we want to experience as opposed to judging gods punishing us. If I wanted a sort of selfless life to a degree there’s only certain ways to achieve that along with 12th house experiences and I actually treasure that. Since this is node related, I like my 1st to 7th axis is always astrologers use of explanation because it’s described as horrific while I don’t think it’s that bad; it depends on how you look at it. From the view of spiritual development you’d want to develop knowledge of shadow and that is that axis as opposed to using astrology to describe the other, if that makes sense. 7th house people just give guidance for 7th knowledge as opposed to reading some planets and some signs as “other”. What tipped my scales to actually get back into astrology early is seeing a nodal read related to chakras where my Ketu axis impacts the 3rd and 11th with detachment along with the 7th and rahu increases activity in the 5th and 9th. If I do what astrologers say to do (neglect/move away from the south node), I actually naturally detach from the 3rd, 7th, and 11th houses where if I’m in a south node mode it appears I’m in a rahu engagement; it’s backwards, yet, they work together. The feeling my Ketu is I’ve done 7th, 3rd, and 11th house things so many times that it’s predictable and not at all exciting yet necessary to be balanced out. Extremely difficult to explain which is why nodes are fascinating. To me charts are spiritual and I don’t limit spiritual to only non physical because being overindulgent to rich beyond use can be inverted spiritual experiences. A 2nd house south node in some interpretations can be financially successful where their sense of security is unfulfilled regardless. Some may be so rich they need to go into space to feel connected to the earth or feel a sense of life. (lol) otherwise it’s empty isolation. In the karmic wheel those are ones who are in their 1st physical carnation as human which shines a light on those misfortunate and the experiences they want. I like he mentioned astrology needs simplified and less competitive (combative) astrologers. I’m taking a liking to archetypal astrology this time around. The University of Virginia perceptual studies warn against past life regression therapy and they’re starting to study past life memories and personality similarities. If dove into enough, you’ll find between life memories of children who recall spending time with their parents before the parents decided to have children; it appears we pick our parents. Reincarnation in terms of memories is roughly 4 1/2 years, reincarnated often in the same families and culture UNLESS they have traumatic lives and decide to reincarnate in another family or culture, at least, In confirmed past life cases.

Thank you so much for doing this episode with Mr. Steven Forrest. A voice that I would always love to hear and wisdom that I always look forward to digest as much as possible. Karma is derived from the Sanskrit word called 'Kri’ which means 'to do’. Swami Vivekananda, in his book, 'Karma Yoga’ wrote the below phrase: In connection with metaphysics, it sometimes means, the effects of which our past actions were the causes. Coming from the background of Hindu philosophy and Vedic Astrology, I myself find it hard to wrestle and come to a conclusion with Karma related astrology. Reincarnation, although tied in with the concept of Karma and not being used in a right way (as Mr. Forrest put it very rightly, "toxicity"). I find Mr. Forrest's opinion of Karma related to "Habit" very interesting. I'd love hear more about it. Thanks again!

Thanks for interviewing Steven Forrest. Martin Schulman's book on reincarnation was one of the early astrology books i read in the 1980s. Steven Forrest's books were also part of my early Astrology study. Since I remembered my past lives in nightly flashbacks and lucid dreams from the time I was around 5 years old I have never doubted reincarnation. I was always drawn to Indian Hindu and Tibetan Buddhist teachings and teachers. I also had 6 months of weekly past life regression Hypnosis work when I lived in Sedona in 1987. I have always used the South Node as past life indicators then channel images to the client in the reading. I believe Past Lives are so important and need to be worked on through our karmic patterns in this life and to free ourselves to be empowered in this and future lives.

It has been an excellent interview with an extraordinary man like S.Forest. I have come through my years of studying astrology to find out today, without knowing little to none about Steve; how much I agree with him and to have lived and found how true and real is evolutionary astrology. I work with whole houses and western sideral since it is the true description of astrology and its energy “as above so below” Mind is so tricky than can make anyone believe what is not when you blind yourself and repeat it 1000 times as with tropical astrology that to me is just a classroom astrology that has nothing to do with reality in reference to planets location. Astrologers are afraid and rather to go with the flow instead of taking a stand for what is undeniable. He works with Placidus which is a computer made up house system that typifies people at different latitud with traumas or problems in an irrational way that I don’t see logic or correlation in, as well as the intersected signs. Respect it but is a big minus in his analysis. There can’t be two or three truths about one reality!👎🏽👎🏽

Just for the sake of extending on my previous comment, I would like to add that what I have learned from experience, both personally and as an astrologer, is that, we are born with the chart that fits the life we planned before we were born, and that the chart itself is mathematically in alignment with our pre-birth plan. Before we got here, we made a plan for our present incarnation, and the birth chart reflects such a plan. It's pure wisdom in itself , and as well, reflects the beauty of divine order operating in this great divine universe! It's pure beauty.

Wow, I love this guy! Such a brilliant, humble and funny guy - and this is a great podcast. Most interviews annoy me as the host usually interrupts all the time, and doesn’t let the guest actually speak- this is a breath of fresh air. Def subscribing!

Everyday or every other pending on time constraints and duration of post; I watch a new podcast and am blown away or walk away with a sense of gaining some profound insight, (which with a Leo rising , and Jupiter in my 1st house, I manage to apply to myself). I don’t know enough about astrology to explain things, but I do know that I have issues in my 4th house that have been quite challenging to varying degrees thru out my life, but it did not extend to my grandparents. I can relate to what was said about ‘sitting with a lineage’ and absorbing ‘something’. Patience has never been my strong virtue, yet for my grandparents, I did. I think I knew, that just sitting with them, I was being productive (lots of Aries and Taurus in my chart), and some type of knowledge or wisdom or well being or something….was transmitted and absorbed by me. I somehow was better off, just being near them. …much the same can be said about watching these podcasts, but it is on more of a quasi intellectual basis. Each day I am grateful for the insights I garner from Astrology Podcast’s posts and I love that Chris attempts to broaden our horizons by exposing us to new people and schools of thought, rather than cloistering his viewers into some mind controlled follow-ship group. ( I don’t think Chris has much Leo in his chart, as the humility and tendency to cast the lime light on others, are exemplary traits and worth mirroring). I’ve been looking for something, and I think Chris has dropped a bread crumb and I can’t wait to check out more by Mr. Forrest

Steven Forrest is a great astrologer. Thank you for org. this. It was interesting to hear about SF's take on Karma - as habits that get repeated in the next incarnation. Per the vedas in Sanatana Dharma, where the fact of karma actually originates (not from Buddhism - which can many moons later), Karma goes much beyond habits being repeated in various lifetimes. Karma is a deep factual concept, but condensing it would certainly simplify working with karmic astrology, or understanding patterns and the Nodes. However, it would be good to bear in mind that is just about scratching the surface. Thanks Steven and Chris .
