Any "slavery" in the Bible wasn't slavery like black people in the USA. It was people paying off a debt to someone. The slave can go free after the years have been served but the wife and children must remain behind. Not many men would abandon their family this way so he would decide to stay. Aaaand you fail, just as Matt failed to grasp the point the caller was trying to make, when Matt like a coward hung up on him. What Matt was calling a game was the caller trying to make a point. The fact is, Matt was talking about how the Bible is immoral on the issue of slavery, and posing this question to the caller. Since atheists cannot account for morality, they have to borrow from the Christian worldview. This is why the caller responded to Matt's question with these questions, "Do you?" and "On what grounds?" Since Matt's worldview as an atheist cannot account for morality, he has no such grounds to judge slavery or the caller. Hence, Matt lost the argument, got upset and called the caller a jackass, and hung up on him.
@elantiidolo17156 жыл бұрын
"Since atheists cannot account for morality, they have to borrow from the Christian worldview" Christian worldview includes stone people to death and slavery? Where do Christians get their morality when their holy book is full of atrocious actions and immoral people? And do you really mean that I, as atheist, am not able to be moral only because I don't believe in a supernatural monster? Don't you really know that there are a lot of other sources to learn and improve your ethics and grow into a better person? For me it's incredible to see that you (Christians) really think that you possess the only source of morality.
@jrockallenson3306 жыл бұрын
@El antiidolo: Oh boy, here comes the same nonsensical arguments atheists are known for. First of all, I don't do Bible studies with atheists who deny the authority and accuracy of God's Word. Now as for your questions, they reveal just how little you understand about the Bible. 1. Christian worldview includes stone people to death and slavery? Okay, why do you think that is? Why were people stoned to death? What's the issue with slavery in the Bible? 2. Where do Christians get their morality when their holy book is full of atrocious actions and immoral people? Your lack of understanding the Bible is quite revealing here. Anyway, what atrocious actions are you talking about? Also, who are the immoral people that you are referring to? You need to give me the context of what you are talking about so I can properly address it. But then again, since you are an atheist and cannot account for morality, you have no grounds for judging what is moral or immoral in the Bible, unless of course you concede to the fact you have to borrow from the Christian worldview, or another worldview that has a moral framework by which to judge things moral or immoral. 3. And do you really mean that I, as atheist, am not able to be moral only because I don't believe in a supernatural monster? No, that's not what I am saying. An atheist can be moral, just as a Christian who practices his/her faith is. What I am saying is that the atheist worldview on its own merit cannot account for morality. It has no moral framework by which it can draw its morality from, since its ideology of unbelief denies where morality originated from. God a "supernatural monster?" Come on, really? Now you are sounding a lot like Richard Dawkins who doesn't have a clue about the nature of God. 4. Don't you really know that there are a lot of other sources to learn and improve your ethics and grow into a better person? Sure there are some good and ethical sources out there to learn and grow from. I don't deny that. I just don't believe there is a supposed better, or more superior source to draw our morals and ethics from outside God or the Bible. You then concluded with this comment: "For me it's incredible to see that you (Christians) really think that you possess the only source of morality." Christians don't possess the only source of morality, as if Morality originated from Christians. Morality has been around way before Christianity came on the scene. There may be variations of morality from different world religions and worldviews, but they all have their origin from our Creator God.
@elantiidolo17156 жыл бұрын
"First of all, I don't do Bible studies with atheists who deny the authority and accuracy of God's Word" So, for example, MATT DILLAHUNTY could not have a discussion with you nor the rest of atheists who have been studying about religion and the Bible for years, these wouldn't be either good enough. Only christians are accepted. Great logic! Yes! Now I only accept atheist to talk about atheism!! 1 AND 2. "1. Okay, why do you think that is? Why were people stoned to death? What's the issue with slavery in the Bible? 2. Where do Christians get their morality when their holy book is full of atrocious actions and immoral people?" Have you ever read your Holy Book???. There are many verses which advocate for slavery, sexism, rape, or stoning people to death. Just Google it! Examples for slavery: (Exodus 21:2-6 NLT) AND (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT) There are many more!! Just read them 3. It has no moral framework by which it can draw its morality from, since its ideology of unbelief denies where morality originated from. Moral framework? Really? Where do your moral framework come from? From the Old Testament maybe? I'm sure not. And I said supermonster about your god because your GOD is even able to KILL THE HUMANKIND just because He felt so. Dawkins has nothing to do here. And you of course you know more about the "nature" of god than all the atheists out there. Only you can talk about this issue?? 3. "But then again, since you are an atheist and cannot account for morality, you have no grounds for judging what is moral or immoral in the Bible, unless of course you concede to the fact you have to borrow from the Christian worldview, or another worldview that has a moral framework by which to judge things moral or immoral." So do you mean, only non-atheists can account for morality??? So if you're an ignorant religious person you can account for it but you're a well educated atheist can't? THis is not serious! And nowadays we have plenty of sources where to learn moral and ethics from. I don't need your at all christian worldview. I need better and more modern sources. We know much better human nature than 2000 years ago. So your morals are really outdated. And yes, I have grounds and enough culture to talk about morality since I'm a well educated person. But I go much further, ethics and moral in modern societies are shit, and I could give you a hundred examples how to improve it (just look at our icons: beauty models, sports players, corrupt politicians... frivolity, ignorance, materialism, drugs, alcohol, selfishness, superstitions...) and this is happening in both religious and atheist countries. So yes, i myself ALONE could EASILY describe a better morality without help of any God! I repeat: ALONE and EASILY. 4. Answer: most christians said that we're immoral just because we lack of belief in any God. I have read/heard that many times. To say that shows an immense ignorance about what morality is. Many secular countries are well developed countries, however other religious belong to the 2nd and 3rd world. So reality in most cases shows absolute the opposite To cap it alll, If the BIble was the better source for morality, the Jesus followers would be (theoretically) the most moral people in the planet. You know that is not truel at all. It's just a fallacy. So it doesn't matter whether you are right or not because reality disproves it! Theory is one thing but reality and truth is what matters!

The following passage shows that slaves are clearly property to be bought and sold like livestock. However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT) The following passage describes how the Hebrew slaves are to be treated. If you buy a Hebrew slave, he is to serve for only six years. Set him free in the seventh year, and he will owe you nothing for his freedom. If he was single when he became your slave and then married afterward, only he will go free in the seventh year. But if he was married before he became a slave, then his wife will be freed with him. If his master gave him a wife while he was a slave, and they had sons or daughters, then the man will be free in the seventh year, but his wife and children will still belong to his master. But the slave may plainly declare, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children. I would rather not go free.’ If he does this, his master must present him before God. Then his master must take him to the door and publicly pierce his ear with an awl. After that, the slave will belong to his master forever. (Exodus 21:2-6 NLT)

You want a Christian to tackle it but not ignore what the OT says here you go: Slavery is wrong it violates Christs law to love your neighbor as yourself. Yes the Bible absolutely says slavery is ok... and that wasnt God. Some ot ass hole wrote it then said God said it to justify it. Im fine saying that since i believe Jesus is God and any verse directly in contradiction of what he said was the highest law in morality i reject as mans word not God. If im wrong and if my belief is wrong and there is no God i can look at my life and say i tried to treat people decently.
@ParanormalEncyclopedia5 жыл бұрын
Note im NOT claiming being Christian means im better then you. I think it means i should TRY to be as exemplary a moral person as i can the sort others look to as an example but thats a journey not a destination... unless you're Mr Rogers then um yeah nailed it.

@@ParanormalEncyclopedia So you chose to believe a book unless it conflicts with your beliefs and then you chose your beliefs.....Christ said that slaves should honour their masters, should a slave honour his master or do we put that down to some 'asshole' I think that is part of the problem for Christianity in the modern age we keep saying we believe in something higher than us and then suddenly realise all the unsavoury parts of it and say that is not what God wanted. Well 1776 your average Christian was OK with Slavery hell when the founding fathers were writing the constitution they did not even consider slaves men. The problem I have is that why do you need a book that you say is adulterated by falsehoods written by assholes to define how you live. Why are you not a muslim that cherrypicks the verses of the Koran that you like or Bhuddist or a Taoist. The point of the caller was that not being a Christian meant that one would have no morals. You have argued that being a Christian means that you are never sure and you end up interpreting what the bible says and rejecting stuff you don't agree with. it would suggest that for each |Christian there is a an infinite set of moral values and often no common ground and if gods word is not true why believe in him
